So I'm going to get a guitar, and I'm one of those people that likes to explore my options before I buy something.

Just wondering if anyone here has an idea of what kind of guitar I should be looking for. I mainly want to learn how to play first of all of course, and then I want something with a sound suited for country music-- which I don't think will be hard with an acoustic.

Anyways, I just want to make sure I don't buy something cheap and shitty. So any pointers?

I have a couple different guitars but I would say Alvarez is a good brand for cheap. You can get a great 6 string for about $150-$250 to start out.

Yamaha also makes decent low-cost acoustics. I picked one up a few years ago for about $200 that was perfect for a beginner.

I have an Ibanez acoustic and the sound is great. Best thing to do if you are just learning is to go straight to a guitar shop and check out lessons and talk with the shop personnel. Would be a good idea to get softer strings put on as well. It's cheap and will save your fingers.

Well there really isn't a guitar shop where I live, and would have to drive about 2 hours to hit a store with an actual dedication to selling them. There is one at a pawn shop here and the brand is Galveston (I think), anyone know anything about the brand?

    Yeah, 1 1/2 to 2 hours away...

    Found Gibson for $100

6-string Maestro is what it is.

i learned to play on an electric, simply because the wear and tear on your fingers will be much easier to deal with. If you don't play and then pick up an acoustic, your going to do some blood letting :).

Ibanez, Epiphone (Gibson lower tier) are good starters.
