    LSU vs Mississippi State

    Week Three
    LSU vs Mississippi State

The kicked started out as bad as possible for the LSU Tigers and their new coach. Mississippi State won the and elected to receive. They took the ball and marched it right down the field for the first score of the game to take an early 7-0 lead. After that initial drive however it would be all Tigers. The Bayou Bengals would put on a clinic the rest of the way offensively and defensively. The Tigers would go on to score 31 unanswered points heading into the break. Including this 15 Yard touchdown pass from Shepard to Ford.

TD Pass from Shepard to Ford Gives Tigers 28-7 Lead

In the second half the Tigers would put it into cruise control and milked the third and fourth quarters away. In the second half the Tigers only attempted on pass but it was a good one as Shepard hit his tight end Watkins on a 8-yard out route. Watkins then broke multiple tackles and lumbered his way into the endzone for a 41-yard score. The Tigers would put up one more touchdown to make it 45-7 before sending in the backups to finish the game. A late field goal would widen the gap to 48-7. The Tigers finsihed the dominating performance with 482 yards of total offense compared to the 170 of the Bulldogs. The whole game LSU put itself in manageable third downs and converted going 5-7. The one mistake in the game was the interception by Russell Shepard who was hit as he threw and the ball fluttered into the hands of a Bulldog defender. The defense would step up after the turnover and hold Mississippi State to a missed FG. We caught up with Coach Ceps after the game and he had this to say of his team's performance, "I'm very pleased with how we played today. The biggest thing was we didn't have a lot of stupid, mental errorrs. We stayed calm even when they were hot at the beginning of the game. For my first game I couldn't have asked for any better." Next week LSU looks to move to 3-1 at home against the winless South Carolina Gamecocks.

    LSU-21 Florida-10

    Tigers Upset Gators in Thiller
Gainesville, Florida- The unranked LSU Tigers faced off against the sixth ranked Florida Gators. The game would be a ball control, defensive struggle in which a few big plays changed the game and swung the momentum.

LSU won the toss and elected to kickoff so they would get the ball to start the second half. Florida got the ball and made a couple of first downs before being forced to punt. The punt stopped at the two yard line and that was were LSU would start their first drive. A conservative approach forced LSU to punt the ball back to Florida after three plays. Florida again was held to a punt on their next drive, and that was when the first big play of the game happened Tolliver was back to receive the punt. As the ball came spiraling down towards him he took a peak at the defenders to see where a hole would be. This caused him to lose sight of the ball and muff the punt with Florida recovering inside the 30 yard line. The LSU defense would hold to field goal and FLorida was on the board first 3-0. After another stop from the Gator defense it looked like the Florida offense was going to put up more points when they drove into scoring position, but a pick by Harrison saved the Tigers points. The Tigers offense was stifled again and Florida looked like they were going to score again after what turned out to be the longest play of the game.

After that 62 yard screen pass the Tigers d-line got tough. They sacked Lawrence on consecutive plays to put Florida on the edge of field goal range. Coach 2bits elected to punt to try and prevent good field position for LSU. The game would be a stalemate until the last minute or two before half. LSU had the ball and was putting together their first sustained drive of the game when disaster struck for the Tiger Faithful. Shepard optioned to the right and was missed read the safety on his pitch read.

Intercepted Pitch Gives Florida Great Field Position

Shepard would say after the game, "I just misread it. I thought the defender was going to take me, but he went for the pitch and made a great play" The play would set up a touchdown for Florida giving them a 10-0 lead heading into the half. The Tigers were in trouble, they were struggling on offense and couldn't come up with a big play anywhere. The second half would hold a different story as the breaks seemed to go the way of the Tigers. After a 3-and-out from the Tigers, Florida got the ball for the first time in the second half. It looked like they were going to continue their domination as they easily got the ball to midfield, when Whaley made the play that gave LSU the much needed lift they were looking for.

    Whaley with the Pick Six

That play mad the score 10-7 Florida, but more importantly gave LSU all the momentum. Towards the end of the third quarter with the score still 10-7 Gators the Tiger offense would finally decide to pitch in. Russell Shepard would face a similar situation to the mistake he made in the first half, but we found out he is a quick learner.

Shepard Taking it in from 45 Yards Out

The long run by Shepard gave LSU it's first lead of the game with under a minute to play in the third quarter and they refused to let go of the lead. As the fourth quarter started both teams moved the ball a little but never enough to get into scoring position. Florida was looking for a way to regain it's lost momentum, but Whaley had other plans. He stepped in front of a Florida receiver for his second pick of the game.

    Whaley with his Second Interception

A toss to Ford would set up the Tigers at the 1 yard line and Allen would punch it in to extend the LSU lead to 21-10. For the rest of the game the Tigers would try to run out the clock and play tough defense, and that is what they did. The clock ran out and it was a final 21-10. Obviously coming into the game the Tigers defense had a lot to prove and they did. The strength of the defense is it's front four, and they were the reason the Tigers won the game, not Whaley. Whaley made a couple of big plays, but it was the defensive line that harassed Lawrence all game. They sacked Florida QBs seven times on the game for -71 yards. The secondary was really helped out by the job that the big boys up front were able to do.

Coach Ceps had this to say after the game, "I'm really proud of the way our guys kept fighting. They wouldn't give up and it paid off in the end. My heart goes out to the Gators as they played an outstanding game. They really outplayed us, but the biggest breaks were able to go our way which is why we won. I have been on their side in games like this and it's not fun. I wish them the best of luck the rest of the season. They are a great team, and I hope we can meet up down the road."

Good game Mr.2bits and good luck the rest of the season.

    LSU vs Kentucky

LSU had no trouble with the Wildcats in Lexington. The Tigers triple option attack racked up over 500 yards. Over 300 on the ground and nearly 200 threw the air. Allen ran for over 100 yards before leaving the game with an injury. The team doctors say he will not miss anytime and will be ready to go next week. The victory improves the #23 team in the country to 4-2 and 3-1 in conference. LSU still controls its own fate in the SEC race but the game with Alabama will decide everything.

    Badgers Become Tiger Bait

    LSU Celebrates a Blowout Victory

Wisconsin came into this game hungry for a victory and it looked like early on they were going to be able to get a big W. On the first drive of the game Wisconsin came out and drove right down the field converting on 4 of 4 first to take a 7-0 lead. LSU came out the next drive and looked to answer. It looked like they would as they easily drove into the redzone. However the Badger defense stood tall and forced LSU into a 4th-and-1 from the 15 yard line. LSU decided they would go for it. Shepard tried a play action pass but his throw went right off the receiver's hands and gave Wisconsin a huge boost of momentum. Wisconsin's offense picked up right where they left off and drove down past the 50 yard line once again coming up big on several third down plays. LSU's defense finally decided to make a play, and when they did the whole game changed. LSU hit and stripped Wisconsin's QB, and Theriot ran it in from 60 yards out.

From that point on the game would be all Tigers. It seemed the air just went out of Wisconsin all together. LSU was able to run, throw, and defend with ease. The Tigers would score 37 points unanswered after that opening TD from the Badgers. The Badgers proved to be tough early, but once LSU got rolling they were no match. LSU improved it's record to 6-2 on the year. Next week LSU will take on Alabama to see who will represent the SEC West in the SEC Championship game.

    LSU vs Ole Miss

LSU Rebounds With Victory Over Rebels

LSU was clearly disappointed a week ago when they failed to seal the victory away against Alabama at home, but they wanted to prove they are one of the best this week. Ole Miss won the toss and elected to receive to start the game. The first play of the game would really set the tone for LSu. Ole Miss came out throughing, but they threw it to LSU. Stalely was right in the way of the receiver to pick of the pass. LSU took the ball and made quick work of their short field. Allen took it in from a yard out to give LSU the early 7-0 lead. LSU would really dominate the game the whole way. The Tigers piled on points until midway through the third quarter. The Tiger's first string was done for the day at that point and the backups would come in to finish the job. The second string really struggled as they gave two touchdowns and 150 yards to a struggling Rebels offense. The Tigers offense went for well over 300 yards once again today over 200 on the ground and more than 100 through the air. Next week LSU looks to take down another rival, this time on the road at Arkansas.

LSU Gets Win #8 on the Season

Allen Would Not be Denied All Day

The LSU Tigers came into D.W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium determined to leave with a golden boot and they did exactly that. They dominated the Razorbacks in all three phases of the game out-gaining the Hogs 348 to 167. The Tigers were 3-5 on third down while Arkansas struggled to a 2-7 third down mark. Russell Shepard was nearly perfect through the air going 8-9 for 148 yards and a TD giving him a 263.6 passer rating. The Tigers would get it going early as the went up 3-0 after a 52 yard field goal. The next drive would prove to be more deadly as the Tigers found paydirt. Shepard threw a quick pass to Claiborne who did the rest of the work.

Claiborne Breaks Two Tackles to Score

The next few possessions by both teams would end in punts. LSU would get the ball back with 2:30 left in the half and look to extend it's lead to 17 points. A nice drive down the field would set up the Tigers in striking distance. Ford took a pitch and as he has done so many times this year, the junior found a crease and let his blockers do the work as he scooted in for the 17-0 Tiger lead.

Ford Splits the Defense for the TD

Arkansas would get the ball to start the second half and were in desperate need of some offense. After a couple of big third down conversions the Hogs crossed midfield for the first time all game. With the ball at the 38 Arkansas finally got on the board. Wilson fired a pass to Powers who evaded a defender and walked into the endzone giving the Hogs fans some brief hope. That hope would be quickly taken away by a three minute drive by the Tigers. LSU would use it's option attack to perfection as it marched down the field methodically. On the last play of the quarter Shepard gave the ball to Allen who would not be denied his first score of the game.

Allen Trucks his Way for Six

Following the Allen touchdown run the LSU second string would get into the action. The backups played the final quarter and played solid. The play of the backups shows a bright future for the Tigers. After another Arkansas punt LSU would get the ball and the number two offense would drain most of the clock. Backup fullback Holloway would find the endzone from the 9 to provide the games final score. The final would be LSU-31 Arkansas- 7.

The player of the game was wide receiver Michael Claiborne. Claiborne would only haul in three passes but those three catches would gain him 106 yards and a touchdown with a long of 54 yards giving him a 35.3 average for the game. This performance by Claiborne gives him 470 yards on the year.

    LSU vs Texas A&M

    LSU Beats Hack-less Aggies

The LSU Tigers traveled to College Station, Texas to face a tough Aggies team. The Aggies were without Head Coach Hack, due to personal reasons. Texas A&M clearly missed their coach against the Tigers. The offense seemed to be in stall all game long as they failed to score a single point on the LSU defense. LSU used a good ball control, run oriented offense to keep the Aggies O off the field and let the talented Tigers defense rest. LSU took a 21-0 lead into the half and then really took the air out of the ball in the second half. LSU didn't attempt a pass in the entire second half. The Tigers rush offense was led by junior Allen who the LSU staff is really excited about in the future. The starter would be pulled at the start of the fourth quarter with a comfortable 28-0 Tiger lead. A&M would threaten to score right before the end of the game but the clock ran out on them.
