NFC Championship Tough win for SF against a very skilled coach missing his best player and most dangerous weapon. Defensively, the Saints stuff the 49ers running backs for the most part and for the second straight week Kaepernick throws two INTs in the first quarter. After getting up 23- 10 at halftime, SF was content to run out the clock in the second half and rely on their defense. Well played Saints.
Ahh... an interesting spin on an interesting game. But anyway, well played. I have to disagree with your MVP choice, but he had a good game as well. Best of luck next season and congrats on your Super Bowl win.
I'll post the write ups for the AFC Championship and Super Bowl as soon as the CFM site works again... It won't load this league for me for whatever reason.
Thats anything but a knock against him, there really isn't anything a commish can do if guys wont take 2 minutes to do a write up.
Defense wins championships. The first quarter of this Super Bowl in a brisk, windy New York where the 49ers took on the Jets was all defense. Punt after punt, neither offense found its rhythm. The 49ers came into the game with the #1 ranked offense; squared up against the league's #1 defense. The Jets, known for big plays, were stifled on every possession. Where the 49ers excelled all season, the run, was not as productive as they hoped. Thanks to great starting field position, the 49ers were able to inch into the edge of field goal range for to attempts. Neither attempt was successful as the ball was seemingly thrown downward by the wind. The quarter ended 0 to 0. The 2nd quarter began where the 1st quarter left off. Both teams struggling to move the ball against each other's stout defenses. Conservative runs seemed to be the mutual game plan. The Jets, frustrated with the lack of production on the ground, decided to air it out late in the 2nd quarter. 7 points are suddenly put on the board by Geno Smith and company. However, they left a little less than 2 minutes on the board for Kaepernick to go to work. Up until this point, the 49ers only attempted passes on 3rd down. They struggled with the exceptional cover corners of the Jets. The 49ers see a ray of hope as they move the ball to around mid-field. That hope is intercepted by Ed Reed. Geno Smith airs it out for another score before the end of the half. It is 14-0 with the Jets in the lead at the half. In the 3rd quarter, the Jets continue their momentum on both sides of the ball. Impeding the 49ers' offense while putting points on the board. Boldin, Crabtree, and Davis could not shake the man coverage or find the open spot in the zone. Kaepernick was being harrassed by the Jets' defensive line. After 3 missed field goals in the wind, the 49ers finally get on the board with a successful field goal; but it's too late. The score is 34-3 and we are in the final moments of the 4th quarter. 49ers 195 Yards Gained 71 Rushing Yards 124 Passing Yards Kaepernick QBR 29.8 8 Completions 26 Attempts Jets 346 Yards Gained 121 Rushing Yards 225 Passing Yards Smith 131.2 QBR 16 Completions 23 Attempts 2 touchdowns Super Bowl MVP Shaun Richardson, had 4 of the Jets' 5 sacks. Given how The Richuation dominated his opponents this past season. I would not be surprised if the next Super Bowl was a rematch, just without the home field advantage the Jets enjoyed this year. Good Game.
