Skins - 33 Eagles - 14 Washington had homefield advantage this Wilcard Weekend after a remarkably close NFC East race during the regular season. A come back tie early in the season against the Bills was the deciding factor. The Skins coaches poured over game tape of their Week 16 lose to the division rival Eagles and identified their one key mistake last time out, ball control. Trusting Alfred Morris just a little bit more may have earned them a 1st round bye and an undefeated record in the division. They would not make that mistake again. The game started off slow as both teams felt each other out despite their familiarity. Alfred Morris broke the 0-0 tie late in the 1st quarter on a 4 yard TD run. McCoy and the Eagles answered right back with a 4 yd TD run of their own on the next drive. On the Skins next drive they ended up with a 2nd and short and decided to try to hit a deep ball. WR Kenny Britt beat his man down the seam but failed to go up for the ball and it fell to the ground. The coaches were fuming knowing that you don't too many opportunities in a game against a great defense like the Eagles. Two plays later RG3 atoned for the missed hookup by keeping the option as WR Pierre Garcon managed to block the outside corner, peel off and pick of the safety, sealing the edge for Robbie to take it 63 yards to paydirt to put the Skins back on top 14-7. A turnover lead to a 44 yd Forbath FG that made the game 17-7 Skins midway through the 2nd quarter. The offensive line really started to take over and Alfred Morris kept pounding away for hard earned yardage. The Washington defensive line was also playing lights out football, particularity Jarvis Jenkins who was just tossing around the Eagles interior lineman. He wasn't getting the sacks but was a disruptive force all day. Morris punched another TD in from 5 yards out to put the Skins up 24-7 with a little over a minute left before the half. A rattled Nick Foles caused another turnover and gave Washington a short field. They decided to play it safe but still managed to add a 37 yard FG as time expired to go up 20. The Skins kept trying to add more of a cushion to the scoreboard but Philly held strong. Taking what the defense gave them was still enough though. Washington got in range for a long Forbath FG, he got all of the kick and it was just enough to clear the crossbar from 52 yards. As Washington tried to kill the clock the Eagles kept trying to fight their way back and led a nice drive that was capped by a 5 yd TD pass to Brent Celek midway through the 4th quarter. Unfortunately for the Eagles it was too little to late as Foles had to keep trying to go deep which got him sacked and picked. With around a minute left in the game the Skins kicked the game capping FG to go up 19 and seal any chance of a comeback. Foles tried to pull off the miracle but the game ended on a sack by game DMVP Jarvis Jenkins. mboda GG dude. Some rough drops and playing from behind got you out of your gameplan. Good game man, I couldn't stop your run when I needed to and my offense wasn't the same without DeSean. Not sure if he would have made a difference with the way your defense was playing. Anyways good luck going forward man.
Prob would have, not having Kendricks and DJax took away your speed. And #17 kept dropping open passes.
Week 17: Jags at Raiders In the final game of the season, new owner, Omar Terrel, and the coach both agreed to give rookie Tyler Wilson the start at QB. Rumors have been circulated around the league that Terrel Pryor is all but done in Oakland, and this just confirms it. Wilson played great helping the Raiders get their 7th win of the season despite only throwing for 270 yards, 1 TD and 1 interception. It's going to be interesting to see what the Raiders will do in the offseason with the QB position. The game was dedicated by DMC's explosive runs and defense. McFadden has been playing with chip on his shoulder ever since the trade rumors. Safety, Melvin Mitchell, had some words after game: "We have a young group of guys in the secondary and we are only getting better, we could be better than the Legion of Boom. Next year, expect a big jump in (DJ) Hayden's game, he's the next great lockdown corner." Game score: 30-10 Player of game: DMC 27 rushes, 123 yards
Texans edge Buffalo in Game of the Year nominee THRILLER! The Texans played host to the hot Buffalo Bills and the #1 ranked Defense in the league. This game was a classic tale of momentum swings in both favors, stiff D, and capitalizing on chess like moves from the kick off until the final play in the game! The Bills won the toss and elect to kick, the Texans offense stalls as they approach mid field. These type of series transpired for 2-3 series a piece with the Bills finally pushing deep enough in to Texans territory to kick a FG. The Texans battled back and managed a FG of their own to tie the game at the end of the 1st QTR. The second QTR was more of the same, key defensive stops, both owners trying to play the field position game to hopefully get deep enough to take a strike at the endzone. With the score tied at 6 a piece opening up the second half of play the intense back and forth struggle continued. However in the second half spurts of momentum started to play key. Buffalo found Steve Johnson deep middle to score the games first TD. This play was then followed by a Matt Scott interception; attempting to throw a inside slant to WR Brian Hartline, Talib quickly turned up field only to be brought down by Texans defenders. This play put the Bills in position to take a firm lead in a highly defensive game. Unfortunately CJ Spiller met Safety Christian Thompson in a Oklahoma like drill one on one in the 3 hole! The results were CJ getting blown up an fumbling, a defensive lineman scooped up the fumble and returned it for a TD. The ensuing drive for the Bills lead to a interception for EJ Manuel, fully swinging the momentum back to the Texans. The Texans were able to put together another decent drive capping it off with a back shoulder fade to Andre Johnson making a spectacular catch over the Bills defender. Now with time being an issue for the Bills down 7 with 1:09 left on the clock EJ & Co. went to work. Strategically moving the ball all the way to the Texans 5 yardline. With all timeouts now exhausted with less than 20 seconds left on the clock, having drove over 70 yards in less than 60 seconds the game was going to come down to this final play. EJ snaps the ball, looks short center, everything's clogged up so he fires corner left for the tie, but Texans unsung hero Nolan Carol jumps up and intercepts the ball right before the Bills receiver can make a play! Ball was brought out near the 15 yardline before running out of bounds allowing M. Scott to take knees to secure the victory. Clear cut classic game, goes down to one of the best experiences i've had online dating back to Dreamcast! GG publik drunk Game Ball : Texans Defensive Unit PASSING: M. It was definetly a thriller, no one had anything given to them and everything was earned. Best of luck to you the rest of the way and cant wait till we get to go at it again.
Skins - 13 Vikings - 9 The Skins didn't have very high hopes going into the Metrodome to face the fearsome Vikings who trounced them during the regular season. Luckily, the Vikings were a completely different team without their rookie phenom duo of GSB and Bryant Mason who were both out with injuries. The game started off slow with some punts but the Vikings got on the scoreboard first. Washington thought a tackle for loss on 3rd down knocked the Vikes out of field goal range but Walsh has a huge leg and drilled a 55 yard FG that would've been good from 65. The Skins didn't want to get out of their gameplan early and called a running play to Morris who made a nice little move in the hole to pick up the first down but he got popped by a defender and fumbled the ball. Minnesota took advantage of the short field to add a 24 yard FG to go up 6-0 late in the 1st quarter. Washington was getting bottled up in the run game apart from the nice run where Morris fumbled so they decided to try to back off the pressure with a screen pass. Morris got the edge and the blocks and ran his fat ass down the field for a 76 yard TD to give the Skins the 7-6 lead. Both defenses were playing great and neither offense could put any points on the board for awhile. Blair Walsh eventually kicked a 48 yd FG to give Minnesota a 9-7 lead with 1:32 left in the half. Washington tried to get into scoring position before going into the locker room but failed to do so. The 3rd quarter was another punt battle as both teams kept bogging down in plus territory. Minnesota got close on one drive but Greg Jennings caught a short pass and got lit up by Koa Misi and fumbled the ball and DHall recovered it. A shoestring tackle saved a scoop and score and the Vikings defense held strong and forced a punt. Another promising Viking drive ended with a pick over the middle by Koa Misi. K Kai Forbath would end the scoring drought early in the 4th quarter with a 41 yd boot to give the Skins the slim 10-9 lead. After another Forbath FG the Skins had a 4 point lead with less than 5 minutes left in the game. Both coaches were feeling the pressure as 1 play could change the outcome of this hard fought contest. The Vikings were driving downfield late but a low trajectory pass to the corner by Christian Ponder was intercepted by Philip Thomas. With under 2 minutes left in the game the Skins just needed a first down to ice the game. Two runs by Alfred Morris got them to 3rd and 3 but Morris was gassed so the Skins subbed in Joe McKnight for the most critical play of the game. The bold coaching decision paid off but almost ended in disaster. Minnesota's defensive line got great penetration and the DE got a piece of McKnight in the backfield but he was able to keep his balance and get outside the tackle for the first down. Washington advances to the NFC Title game for the first time in over 20 years. TE Fred Davis is expected back from injury next week and the coaching staff can't wait to have him back. TEXANS BULLY BROWNS The Texans looking for revenge against the Cleveland Browns and former running back Ben Tate travel to Ohio in the AFC divisional round. Coach Lewis wanted to slow the pace of the game down and grind out game. Luckily that's just what happened by the big physical offensive line of the Texans. Three forced interceptions by Rookie QB T. Babbich didn't help the Browns cause. Ben Tate was also forced out of the game which slowed the Browns running game; Tate exited with 16 yards on 6 carries. Houston converted often on 3rd downs to keep the chains and clock moving. These long drives lead to a double in total time of possession. The Texans D really stepped up their game the past two games, and showed a whole new side from the first time the Texans/Browns met resulting in a L for Houston and giving up over 40 points. Hats off to Dan for a great season, game ball goes again to the Texans defensive unit. PASSING: M. Scott: 17/27 - 235 1 INT T. Babbich: 17/25 - 180 3 INT RUSHING: A. Foster: 24 - 83 1 TD J. New England beats Kansas City to advance to AFC Championship New England comes into this game winning 8 straight games and the last game they lost was in week 7 to the Kansas City Chiefs 17-24. The Patriots still feel the pain from losing a close battle back in week 7. Now in the Divisional playoff game Patriots look to redeem themselves as they look to take on the Chiefs in full force as back in week 7 Patriots were without Rob Gronkowski. Coach Belichick knew going into this game that the Chiefs have a great running game as they were 7th in the league in rushing. The Game started off with New England winning the toss and electing to kick. The Chiefs started out running the ball and driving the field only to end up have Alex Smith throwing a interception to L. Ryan that was intended to Kelce on a post route. On the Patriots first drive of the game they would have a 9 play drive that would end up in a 50 yard FG by Gostkowski. Kansas City would drive on the next drive that would continue into the 2nd quarter that would end in a Jamal Charles toss to the left for 3 yards half way in the 9 min mark. New England and Kansas City would have 2 straight 3 and outs and on New Englands next drive they would kick a 33 yard FG with 2:28 left in the half. Kansas City would try to drive down the field until Charles Tillman would pick off Alex Smith that was intended for Dwayne Bowe. New England would have little time to try and get some points on the board before the half would end, but would end up not getting any points as Tom Brady would connect with Rob Gronkowski down the middle of the field but wouldn't get the timeout in quick enough and the half would end Kansas City up 7-6. They 2nd half would get more exciting as the point would start to happen. New England would receive the kickoff and would end up having a quick 3 and out. Kansas City made a really nice 11 play time consuming drive which was ended by a 7 yard toss to Jamal Charles on the right side with 5:37 left in the quarter. Tom Brady and Co. could not muster up and kinda of offense at this point as they had yet another 3 and out. Kansas City would end up punting on their next drive and the 3rd quarter with a score of 14-6. Going into the 4th quarter Coach Belichick knew he had to start putting points on the board or it was gonna be the end of the road for his Patriots. Patriots drove down the field on a 9 play drive with some no huddle in the drive and would finally score their first touchdown as Tom Brady found Ladarius Green in the back left corner for a 7 yard touchdown and then would find Gronkowski on a simple out route for the 2 point conversion to make it a tied ballgame at 14-14. Luck would finally come to the Patriots as Jamal Charles would fumble on the very first play as Jarod Mayo would destroy him and Devin McCourty would dive to snag the ball. New England would have GREAT field position as it only took 3 plays to score as Shane Vereen would score on a 2 yard power run to make the score 21-14. Kansas City and New England would have a couple 3 and outs that would kill alot of the clock and New England would get the ball with 5:08 left and would kill almost all of the clock with a 10 play drive that would end with a 18 yard FG by Gostkowski. The Patriots win 24-14. GG Mcwoods06 The Patriots host the Houston Texans in the AFC Championship in hopes to continue to the Super Bowl. Again GG Mcwoods06
Skins - 13 Seahawks - 3 It was a snowy day in Landover, Maryland for this NFC title matchup. Seattle was playing in their white jerseys for some extra camouflage but ended up hiding their offense instead. Russel Wilson was off all day as was RG3 but the Skins had Morris to lean on, a luxury the Seahawks didn't have with Marshawn Lynch on IR. Washington's defense has played stellar all post season and has kept their team in games despite the anemic passing game. Another game that starts of slow, Seattle's first drive got stopped inches short of a first down and forced a punt. There was some back and forth before Forbath got the scoring started with a 24 yd FG. After Russel Wilson's first of 5 interceptions the Skins got in range for a long 52 yard FG but the 9 MPH wind in Forbath's face caused his first miss of the season and gave Seattle great field position late in the 2nd quarter. Another Seattle turnover gave Washington the ball back and they were able to add a 48 yd FG to take the score to 6-0 at the half. Morris put the team on his back yet again but by the time the Skins got into redzone territory late in the 3rd quarter he was completely gassed. McKnight came in for a goal line run and got the edge to put the first TD on the board and give the Skins what would seem to be a solid 13-0 lead. McKnight also fumbled 2 balls on 4 carries and has ended up in the coaches doghouse despite scoring the only TD in the game. Delgarza finally got the Seahawks on the board early in the 4th quarter with a 46 yd FG but just as momentum was finally turning in their favor WR Linvall Stills caught a pass a few yards short of the first down and got popped by LB Koa Misi and coughed up the ball. The fumble killed a nice drive that probably would've at least put Seattle to within a TD late. With time winding down Seattle was forced to pass but Wilson threw yet another INT, Phillip Thomas' 2nd of the day which pretty much sealed the game. Washington ran out the clock and moves onto to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1992. MoonBBad GG dude. Just one of those ugly games, for both of us. Unfortunately the EA Website can't pull stats from this game as a reference to this write up. This game started very slow for the Texans going down 14-0 in the first quarter off a A. Foster fumble deep in Pats territory then a quick 3 n out on offense. Going down early the Texans didn't hit the panic button and abandon the game plan which was to feed the leagues' MVP Arian Foster even with his late season fumbling issues. Nearing midway through the second quarter Houston finally got on the board scoring off a B. Hartline TD. With Tom Brady looking to put more distance on Houston before the half while also getting the ball back after half time, NE went to work. On a 3rd down an long, Tom looked short left for a screen to Shane Vereen. Brian Cushing read the play from the jump and jumped the route; intercepting Brady and scoring a touch down. This play greatly changed the momentum in the game and put us back in striking distance. From here the Texans were able to scratch an claw back in to the game, gaining the lead for the first time late in the 3rd quarter! Tom Brady & Co. abandoned the run game and went gun through the air. This played into Houston's strong suit being able to tee off and rush the passer while our savvy DB's played exceptional coverage on everyone but Gronk. Houston held on to the lead and pushed through to the Superbowl for the first time in franchise history. Player of the Game : Brian Cushing (Had quite a few tackles, and 2 interceptions)
NEXTFL SUPERBOWL II In a showdown of the league's number 1 & 2 rushers in A. Foster & A. Morris it would come into play who was more effective and which D could create turnovers to allow more chances to score. Both defensive units played especially well ! JJ Watt & Brian Cushing had their game faces on all game, as did Brian Orakpo and Perry Riley. The showdown everyone was looking forward to was RGIII vs the young defensive unit in Houston. Early it looked like it could get ugly with RGIII utilizing his legs on a early read option play ripping off 60 yards to the left side. Unfortuently for the Skins this was the lone long run for the day. Alfred Morris was mauled in this one averaging 1.6 yards per carry. On the flip side Arian Foster while still slowed a bit, was still effective averaging over 4.5+ yards per carry and scoring on two touches. RGIII was faced with constant pressure as the Skins looked to narrow the game while down 20-3. These passing attempts lead to 3 interceptions. Even when down the Skins scored on a quick play; on the ensuing possession by Houston Foster fumbled, which was recovered then re-fumbled by the Redskins defender. This was a huge play as two back to back scores for the skins would have put them right back in the game. But a miss-call on the refs part and Matrix could not challenge the play called on the field of a fumble by a downed defender that recovered the ball. (Thanks Madden) From that play on mid 4th quarter until the whistle blew the Texans went into cruise control and played ball control; totaling over 30 mins worth of time of possession. The game was capped off by another late RGIII interception as the Skins looked to narrow the gap. Great game and great season by the Skins! Houston's first Superbowl victory in franchise history is capped off with the road through the East. The AFC East that is, hats off to the boys in that division as there was no easy games in this one. We may have snuck on people this year. Free agency has stuck and we will look to reload for season three! Player of the Game : JJ Watt 5 tackles, 2 sacks (EA website gives error when trying to retrieve game stats -- This game was also streamed!)
