Are you sure of this? My thinking is that new "engine" means game engine in general. If it was just adding physics to the existing engine it really woudn't be a new engine. Can one of the Game Changers confirm this?

Honestly the only "new" engine is the passing engine. At least, to my knowledge. Everything else was improved/revamped, etc. Obviously Madden got the new Infinity Engine and NCAA is getting it next year.

So both games, to my knowledge, are on the same NEW passing engine. It wasn't a new engine as a whole, and the physics are basically separate/adds to it.

It's been a while since that info has been laid out though so I could be wrong. But that sounds right.

I know there is a TSO thread already started about this but I would like to hear from members of the 12th man that have the early release. Any insight of like minded individuals would be nice. I really don't need to know if a players towel is on the correct side of his body, if the sun only sets in the east rather than the west or if the crowd should be sitting in certain situations. I'll leave those questions to the people who only look for complaints to bash on Madden.

What I want to know is how the game feels? What kind of settings have you been using? Is the CCM menu confusing and hard to find certain things? Etc....

As someone who relies heavily on this, I can tell you without a doubt that it feels entirely different if you "User" a player compared with last year. The timing is completely different (have to press the buttons far in advance to be able to perform desired actions) and it appears that the ratings of the attributes weigh more much heavily even when you user. For instance, if your SS sucks at jumping and catching, you probably won't have much success trying to pick a ball off if you are in good position. <----sucks for me.

The physics are great. They have added a ton of new animations and there is no sure thing anymore. Skilled players can wiggle through traffic, bounce or spin out of a solo tackle, and stumble to keep their balance. There is also some pretty good catching animations that I noticed. I've only played about 5-6 games, but you take notice of this quite quickly.

As for CCM, it's a huge overhaul. It's so in-depth I'm still trying to figure it all out. For player progression (since I know many of you are interested) you have two ways to progress your player. The first is just by performance, which boosts your production rating (new) and thus increases your player rating. I'm not entirely sure how that affects all the other attributes, if at all. The second way, is by using XP earned. Each player will earn XP on a weekly basis depending on how they perform weekly. You can choose how you want to progress your players by increasing awareness, speed, catch, tackling, hit power, etc....The rate in which you accumulate XP is quite reasonable, iMO, and will not be something that can be taken advantage of. You won't be able to boost your player too much through XP, perhaps a point or 2 in a 2-3 week span if they perform above average. I'm yet to see what a killer game will provide you in terms of XP to spend. And of course, as your ratings are higher, it take way more XP to boost an attribute.

For all those speed freaks out there, you can boost a players speed/acceleration, but it does require a hearty amount of XP.

FA bidding seems pretty awesome. They show you the market value of each player, and how many bids have been made (and by who) but don't show you what the actual bids were.

Overall, from my first impression I'd give this game a 9.3/10. There are a few things I feel they need to address, such as the change of an overall scheme (off/def). You can change the individual scheme assignments, but not the entire thing. For instance, the Jets are locked in as a run heavy/3-4 attacking team. There is no way to change that, as I can tell. You can of course, change it on your own through assignments and personnel, but when it comes to changing the individual assignments, it will always reflect 3 DL and 4 LBs, instead of 4 DL and 3 LBs if you were to want to run a 4-3.

Twas all....hopefully that helps those who have to wait until Tuesday to get their fix.

Okay I've put a good 6 hours into this game and I can easily say without a doubt that this is by far the best football game I've played given everything in account. The gameplay is the biggest step Madden has made in their franchise. The passing trajectories completely eliminates the super cheeze linebackers that you could abuse in previous Maddens by playing zone coverage constantly. The new catch animations have me in awe at time and also have been revamped so much more effectively that I can have receivers catching in STRIDE (who would have thought?). The passing animations changes are so much better than any previous Madden it's like night and day, I find myself in the pocket almost wishing that defense would blitz me since the lob pass has become such a threat now, no longer can you blitz every play and expect the qb to not stand a chance. To top all of that off with the infinity engine? It just makes this game by far one of the best sports games I've played in I don't know how long, I mean sure, the engine is a little quirky at times and sure maybe everything isn't going to look realistic all the time but this game is light years ahead anything I've played since Madden 05. I'll admit it though, there's plenty of things this game could improve upon as far as gameplay but right now I am not worried about that because I can finally see that EA sports CARES about their football game again! I have full confidence that Josh Looman and the rest of the dev team can continue to make incredible football games and improve upon this great product.

    Well,

First off there's no question that the folks over at EA have demonstrated a sincere desire to make amends to the community in regards to developing the game rather than just rehashing it.

    But I have one observation.

I understand they spent a great deal of money, time and effort in expanding on the brilliant re-work of the cameras and immersive atmospherics of the game when observed in broadcast mode.

But the only time one can sit back and observe the fruits of their labor is when they are running games that have no significance in regards the the heart of the game which currently resides in connected career mode.

Which ultimately renders the bulk of that two years of work - moot.

This is because in M13 the only time you can run the game in CPU vs. CPU mode is in the single player one off game side. (observed in broadcast)

I understand the desire to remove it for Leagues that compete in CC - although tbh it would be nice even there for games that are being auto-simmed out to kick back and actually watch the event CPU vs. CPU rather than see colored blocks streak across a screen.

Or even worse just watch a score pop out.

But I would think it would make sense and be a relatively trivial piece of code to restore it to at least the offline mode - where no one gets hurt and the game can really strut its stuff with the full complement of a running tally of stats generated.

For the purists on the dev team they could have this mode not generate any or a lowered fractional ammount of XP (if need be) but at least you could run the game like a GM/Head Coach as opposed to a button masher - because in the connected career mode they also removed the option to have the QB run the play after you call the snap.

Even in that 'Hybrid' style - which I really used to enjoy - calling the play and see how the guys I picked, and progressed, worked out the details on the field and made it happen - they have simply shut the door on it.

As it stands since broadcast only functionally works on the single player via CPU vs. CPU (switch to it in CC and nothing happens since EA is aware that no human can play from those angles) , in home section, and the only real reason you would spend any time there is when you have someone over at your house - it would have made more sense to simply remove broadcast camera angles from the game altogether one would think.

    See my point.

So yeah - this would be a humble petition to rethink the removal of CPU vs. CPU play from a whole reason to buy the game in the first place - a loving work of art in regards to a visual rendering of football with lots and lots of stats to pour over in the end - that in this configuration you can only see when it completely doesn't matter.

Thanking you in advance for your consideration.

Safety play felt awful. Multiple times Patriots SAfety Chung moved ithe opposite direction of the ball and receiver.

I been having problems with the left gunner on punt returns vs cpu or user just running untouched every punt with broncos... and if they get to close to my punt returner on fair catch, he moves out the way.. Besides that i love the game

Very well written post and it looks like you spent a considerable amount of time on it.

With that said, the majority of players would much rather EA continue to focus their efforts in the direction they are going now.

I do agree, building a team and simming the games and watching results are a lot of fun. But I don't think EA would appeal to the masses with a focus in this direction. This type of gameplay appeals to a very small minority.

I think another developer needs to create a game like this, similar to OOTP or Football Manager.

To EA I'd first like to say thanks for all the hard work you guys put into M13. From the moment the game starts, you can tell you guys wanted to make this the best Madden yet, and I can say you have done that.

Now some constructive feedback on things that I think can be improved:

    1. IDK if this has been taken out since M10 but during a game I can't find anywhere to set defensive assignments. So online players put the best WR in the slot and my 3rd best CB is stuck covering them.

    2. In online play there is a screen to change the playcalling to conventional vs gameflow (like user settings i think). I changed it in here, but then I get into a game and I'm stuck with gameflow. I looked through the settings menu in-game, but it wasn't an option. So every online game has to be done through gameflow? It just gets annoying pressing X button EVERY play to bring up the playcalling.

    3. Think about adding an In-CCM practice mode, because at times I want to practice with my team to check out my roster, but the only practices I can do are the mini-game scenario things.

I'm sure I will have more suggestions/ feedback after a little time on the field, but thats all for now. Thanks again, EA.

I was having that problem in the demo while playing on all-madden mode but since the online play is on all-pro, the number of drops I've seen has really decreased.
