Miami, FL - The Dolphins (10-3) played host to the visiting Ravens (8-5) in week 15. Both teams were playing to separate themselves within their respective divisions. The Dolphins won the toss and elected to kick. The Ravens started off on the right foot capping off a successful drive with a 39 yard screen pass to Ray Rice for a TD. The first quarter would expire with the Ravens up 7-0.

The Dolphins answered with a successful drive of their own capped off by a PA pass to Michael Egnew for an 8 yard TD reception. With the score tied 7-7 in the second qtr, Joe Flacco would be the first to make a mistake throwing an INT into the hands of Dolphins defensive back JJ Jefferson in Ravens territory. Dalton would make the Ravens pay connecting with Benjamin Mims for a 7 yard TD reception on a SE slant.

Down 14-7, the Ravens decided to make a game of it on their ensuing possession. Flacco felt the need to redeem himself and he did just that. Motioning Rice out of the backfield into the SE position, Flacco hit Rice on a streak. The Dolphins defense did not communicate their assignments following the Ravens audible leaving Rice wide open for the 68 yard TD reception down the sideline. Just like that, the score was tied 14-14.

Following the quick Ravens strike, Andy Dalton led the Dolphins offense on another successful drive 80 yards down the field with just over 3 minutes remaining in the half. This time Dalton would hit Renee Bullock on a 55 yard corner route as the Ravens defense left the tight end wide open. Bullock would cough the ball up, however, as he dove to try to reach the end zone. Dolphins receiver Deonte Young was there to recover at the Ravens 3 yard line. The Dolphins would regain the lead, 21-14, as running back Doug Martin would punch the ball in from two yards out on two attempts.

With just over 40 seconds remaining in the first half, the Ravens decided to try to beat out the clock and put some points on the board themselves. However, Flacco would miss his intended target over the middle and the ball fell into the hands of Dolphins linebacker Shane Duncan as he made a fingertip grab just before the ball hit the turf. The interception put the Dolphins in perfect position to add to their lead. However, Dan Carpenter would hit the left upright on the 47 yard attempt as the first half expired.

The Dolphins received the kickoff in the second half. Andy Dalton led a successful opening drive down the field capped off by a Renee Bullock 17 yard TD reception. The Dolphins lead was increased to 28-14, but there was still plenty of time for the Ravens to answer. Unable to do so, the Ravens offense stalled at mid-field and were forced to punt the ball back to the home team.

Andy Dalton led the Dolphins offense down the field once more. This time the Dolphins drive was capped off by a Doug Martin four yard TD run. The score would put the Dolphins up 35-14 in the early moments of the fourth qtr. The Ravens responded as their third successful drive of the game was capped off by a Ray Rice sweep to the weak side from six yards out. The score was 35-22 following a successful 2 point conversion.

With time against them, the Ravens elected to onside kick. The ball bounced of of several Dolphins receivers and rolled around on the turf only to have the kicking team recover! But it was too little, too late. With just over three minutes remaining, the Ravens wound up turning the ball over on downs at mid-field. Dan Carpenter iced the game with a 40 yard FG and the Dolphins wound up kneeling out the clock following Flacco's third INT on the day.

The Dolphins came away with the important 38-22 win. Despite the win, they lost their leading receiver, Deonte Young, to a torn hamstring late in the third quarter. Young will be out for the remainder of the season, but the Dolphins will continue to fight on his behalf. The Dolphins will host the Jets in week 16. A win would clinch the AFC East and a first round bye which the Dolphins may need after losing Young to injury for the remainder of the 2016 season.

Good game, Kris. Good luck in these final two weeks of the season. coachmimz20

Great write up! Nice win, but tough loss with Young going down. Sucks to see that happen this time of year.
