*** REVIEW, RESPONSE, AND POLL VOTE IS MANDATORY! ***

    Gentlemen,

As the sun is setting on our 3rd played season (and 5th overall, with simmed seasons) of Madden 15, there has been a lot of discussions and questions about the plans for The Q going forward. I want to take this opportunity to address our potential plans for the immediate future and I would ask that every owner in The Q would read this post in its entirety and respond accordingly. Response to this post is MANDATORY.

As we have said all along, we have every intention of playing year round, or as close to it as we feel is reasonably possible, but we would be naive to think that we could continue into the spring/summer months without some modification to how we do things. We have been doing this long enough to know that activity levels drop off with the warmer weather, and we felt that this is something we need to be proactive about to plan for and address. With that being said. the only way we can succeed, at any time of year, is if the owner base buys in and upholds their commitment to The Q and their fellow owners.

Before I get to specific changes, the one thing I want to address is the fact that this has been a particularly bad year for owner complaints as well as infractions. One thing that we have always striven for in The Q (and it's predecessors) is to create an environment where everyone plays the game to have fun and THAT is the most important thing, not the almighty "W". If that is not YOUR primary objective, then dude you are in the wrong league. One of the changes we address below (man/zone) is a direct result of the volume of complaints we have heard on the subject. But that has hardly been the only problem. Don't get me wrong, there are well known issues (confidence is broken, team funds are a constant struggle, etc.) and that's not what I am talking about here. Whether it's complaints about any number of topics, or guys who forget/didn't know the rules in crunch time, there has been a LOT of negativity this release, as well as some bad sportsmanship shown, and that is very concerning. We need to get back to just enjoying the game for what it is and having FUN being a part of a great league. That should be everyone's ultimate goal.

Now, in order for The Q to continue for the 2019 simmed and 2020 played seasons, we would be making the following changes:

    ADVANCE SCHEDULE

In an effort to make it as easy as possible to schedule games and get them in, during a time that is generally much busier for most of us, we will be moving from our current 72 hour advance window, to a twice a week advance schedule. The advances, starting with Week 1 of the 2020 season, will take place on Monday and Friday evenings @ Midnight EST. We figure one game during the week and one game during the weekend (or the day following) should be easily doable for everyone. I have included a tentative schedule at the end of this post, so you can get an idea of what's in store.

We understand that this new schedule may not be appealing to some, and also realize that there may be some owners who are unsure of their ability to commit to next season, regardless of schedule. We would much rather have owners be completely honest about their desire/ability to continue, than to see owners who commit and then don't live up to that commitment.

    DEFENSIVE PLAY CALLING

This is a change that will be taking effect IMMEDIATELY and is not up for debate. While this was never written as a rule, there has always been an expectation about mixing up man/zone play calling on defense.

From this point forward, in the Madden 15 release, owners will NOT be required to adhere to any specific ratio of "Man" vs. "Zone" coverage. All owners will still be required to mix up their defensive play calling, but may play any ratio of man/zone coverage that suits their play style, personnel, game plan, etc.

This does not change the fact that we expect all owners to adhere to our existing requirements for defense and defensive play calling. The following requirements are still expected of all owners:

    DEFENSE

    D.1 DEFENSIVE PLAYCALLING

Teams should mix up their defensive formations, coverages, and blitzes based on their defensive scheme and the opponent’s offensive gameplan. Please call realistic defensive plays for the proper situation. Use a 3, 4, or 5 DL set to stop the run and a 3 or 4 DL set to play the pass. Sitting in Cover 3 or DE Contain all game, for example, is prohibited. The only exception to this goes along with offenses becoming one dimensional. If your opponent is forced to become one dimensional due to the score, you will be permitted to do so on defense.

    D.2 FORMATION LIMITATIONS

On defense, the 4-6 formation and the use of the "crowd the line" audible bringing "eight in the box" are strictly prohibited on third or fourth down if the yardage to attain the first down is 10 yards or greater. On first and second down, the 2-5-4 and 2-3-6 formations are limited to 3wr and 4wr sets, but may be used in any situation on third or fourth down. The use of non-traditional formations like the 5-2 and the 4-6 may be mixed in, but not used as a defense's "base formation".

    D.3 PERSONNEL SELECTION

Defensive personnel selection should be based on what offensive personnel are selected in the huddle. In addition, personnel selection should be based on time remaining, the down, and the yardage required for the offense to attain the first down and/or the distance to the goalline. We do not have a "match up" rule per say. However, the rule of thumb is that the defensive formation selected can only have up to one cornerback greater than that of the receivers in the offensive formation unless it is an obvious passing down (third or fourth down and 10 yards or greater).

    D.4 AUDIBLES & ADJUSTMENTS

When making adjustments on the field pre-snap, be sure that you are not making the exact same adjustments on every play. Constant press coverage, constant line stunts, shifting the DL and linebackers in the same manner every play and the like falls under the category of not mixing up play calling, and is frowned upon. In addition, moving anyone other than the player you will control is prohibited. If you find yourself in a situation where your guys move as you are switching to the player you intend to control, audible to your original play by pressing X+LT (360) or []+L2 (PS3).

    D.5 BLITZING

There are exploits and AI deficiencies that can be taken advantage of in Madden - even when employing defensive schemes that are often seen in the NFL. There are teams in the NFL that rely on their speed on defense sometimes using blitz schemes all game. Although it is not illegal to blitz all game, playing Madden is not entirely the same as playing in the NFL. Showing blitz should be used VERY sparingly, but can be an option to mix it up.

    D.6 PLAYER MOVEMENT

Manual player movement of ONE defender pre-snap is allowed. The AI is able to account for our manual player movement. Therefore, you may manually move a defensive back as long as he remains within his "positional boundaries." You must remain in control of that defensive player until the ball is snapped on offense. All manually controlled defensive players must remain within their "positional boundaries" until the ball is snapped.

Manually controlled players should also mix up their strategies during the game. A defensive tackle will NOT swim all game as the offensive lineman would make necessary adjustments to counter that. Unfortunately, the AI does not think that well so mix up your attack.

NFL teams also shift players around in order to get a better blitz angle. However, there are a lot of "glitch blitzes" that prevent us from allowing teams to move players around on defense other than Madden shifts or manually controlled defensive backs. At no point should shifts be made to take advantage of the D-line spacing or to allow a DB to encroach the line unpenalized in order to reach the quarterback unabated.

    D.7 POSITIONAL BOUNDARIES

“Positional boundaries” are defined as follows:

    • D-line - No movement other than defensive line shifts (pinch, spread, left, right). ALL DEFENSIVE LINEMAN MUST BE VISIBLE AND ON THE LINE AT THE SNAP OF THE BALL. Spreading the D-line and audibling or manually controlling the DE's to crash out around the OT's is not allowed. Manually audibling and/or manually controlling a DE/DT to drop into zone coverage is also prohibited unless the play called from the huddle is a zone blitz calling for the DE/DT to drop into coverage.

    • LB - One shuffle laterally, either direction, and/or a Linebacker shift (pinch, spread, left, right). NO MOVEMENT TOWARDS OR AWAY FROM THE LOS.

    • CB -No individual movement allowed. Press and cushion coverage allowed.

    • FS/SS - Lateral, forward, and backward movement allowed; ONE STEP ONLY FORWARD/BACKWARD. You may NOT move up to the linebackers' depth.

If you have any trouble viewing the above quote, you can view the defensive rules in their entirety HERE (LINK).

Obviously we are aware that some will love this change, and others will absolutely hate it. We felt this was a change we needed to make, and as I said this takes effect IMMEDIATELY.

NOTE: Some may make the argument that if the defense is allowed to sit in one style of defense (man/zone) all game, then the offense should be allowed to use the same plays/play types repeatedly to counter that. We have anticipated and discussed this potential argument and would just say that that argument/assessment is false. Defenses will still be forced to mix up the types of man/zone defense they run, and as such there should be no problem with the offense continuing to mix things up, just as before.

    SUMMARY:

If we lose owners this off-season, at this stage of the release, we may not be able to find suitable replacements. If that happens, we face the option of continuing with less than 32 owners (all CPU games would be simulated) or folding up shop for this release. We have included a poll at the top of this thread, when you can indicate what your interest level is in returning for another played season. We would like to have every owner respond to this thread (with thoughts, comments, questions, etc) AND vote on the poll at the top.

The three options for the poll are as follows:
    • Count me in for anything! (full league or less than 32 with CPU sims)
      • You just want to keep playing, even if it means rolling with a less than full league and putting up with simmed games here and there due to CPU opponents.
    • I am only interested in continuing with a full league.
      • You only want to continue if we remain full and want no part of a less than full league and/or simmed CPU games
    • I will be stepping down following this season.
      • You are unable/unwilling to continue beyond the current season.

The Madden 16 Effect: Please don't let your interest in returning to The Q for M16 be your ONLY reason for expressing your desire to continue this release. If your heart isn't in it, it WILL show in your participation going forward. One thing I want to make perfectly clear; there are no golden tickets to get into The Q for M16. What I mean by that is, just because you are a member at the end of M15, doesn't guarantee you a spot in M16. So if that would be your only reason for sticking around, please don't waste our (or your own) time.

    SCHEDULE (TENTATIVE):

As you will see from the schedule below, the 2020 season would wrap up around the first week of June. At that point we would officially wrap for the Madden 15 release, and let everyone recharge their batteries for Madden 16 in August. This is all tentative for now, this is just to give everyone a general idea of what we could expect with the new advance schedule.

Im in but as others have said, if the number of CPU teams is more than 3-4, then I may step down. IM also not in love with the new advance schedule. The more you slow the league down, the more the interest in the league will slow down. Just my two cents.

We won't delay the advance for the sake of the schedule. We will, however, allow everyone time to complete their game within the schedule which means if we do adjust the schedule due to an early advance, there may be a week here or there that may be a day longer if a person communicated their absence in advance. We will never delay an advance just because of the schedule if all of the games are completed.

Also, not in love with the idea that someone can play 100% zone if they want. I dont care if they mix it up between cover2-6.

But if someone is going to call 100% zone, Im running 100% zone busters

Read and understood. I'm in, up to a reasonable amount of cpu teams. I despise playing the cpu, so if user level drops below 27-28, I may reconsider. Been a fun release; hope to ride this thing until M16 drops and then do it all over again!

As someone who stepped last year because of time constraints and a little bit of interest after football ended I intend to complete this release and try to make my team better. I also like the new schedule.

Like others have said if more then 4 decide to step down i think it would be best just to shut the league down and start focusing on the next release. That is my 2 cents
