Every year for the last several I've hosted three NCAA Basketball pools with people ranging from family to friends to people I've met through my experience in the StarCraft Community, etc.. It's only appropriate now to invite some more real sports people into the mix. None of the brackets are obviously up but they will be up as soon as they are all released. Help me set a new record as well for most entries as the most I've ever received is 33. Just for the record, Jpopidol is a buddy of mine who attended Purdue University and ironically Darth Maul is a fellow I met through StarCraft whom attended IUPUI and is also a Purdue fan. lol.

Besides, here is another chance to beat TheCrumb. Not like y'all get enough chances to do that each year. ;)

    Important Dates/Information:
    *All Times Are Eastern Standard*

    NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament:

Selections Will Be Due By: Saturday, March 19th, 2011 @ Noon
    Selection Page: http://opbgn.com/wncaa2011/tournamententry.html *
    Defending Champion: Darth Maul

    NIT Tournament:
Bracket Will Be Released: Sunday, March 13th, 2011 @ 9:00 pm EST
Entrypage Will Be Up: Sunday, March 13th, 2011
    Pool Information: http://opbgn.com/nit2011/
Selections Will Be Due By: Wednesday, March 16th, 2011 @ 7:00 PM
    Selection Page: http://opbgn.com/nit2011/tournamententry.html*
    Defending Champion: Darth Maul

    Pool Details:

NOTE: This year is slightly different due to the First Four Games. These games happen on the Tuesday before the rest of the tournament begins on Thursday. In the bracket these games will be designated with two teams. A selection of this pair will give you the team that wins the opening games in that round

NCAA Men's March Madness Pool/Women's NCAA March Madness Pool

The pool is rather simple. When the brackets are released you will go to http://opbgn.com/ncaa2011/tournamententry.html [Men's Pool] or http://opbgn.com/wncaa2011/tournamententry.html and fill out the entire bracket and submit it to me by the date listed above. I do use a slightly different scoring system than many of the standard pools use. I have added in what is called the "Underdog" scoring. In the first two rounds by selecting an underdog(a team with a lower seed) you will earn an additional point. The scoring for the pool is as follows:

First Round- 1 pt each correct/2 for each underdog correct
Second Round- 2 pts each correct/3 for each underdog correct
    Sweet 16- 4 points each
    Elite 8- 8 points each
    Final 4 - 16 points each
    Championship - 32 points
Note that each player depending on the number of upsets in the first two rounds may have a higher maximum value than other players. An underdog is any team seeded from #9-#16

    Underdog Scoring Full Details:
To get points for Underdog Scoring a player must correctly pick a team to win a certain game as an underdog AND that team must win the game as an underdog (regardless of who they play). Points are then awarded based on either Round Points or Seed Difference.

Example: Jerry picks Alabama (#15 seed) over Kentucky (#7 seed) in a 2nd Round game.

With Underdog Scoring, if Alabama beats a higher seeded team (lower seed number) then Jerry would be awarded points based on the type of underdog scoring you selected in the Underdog Options frame. For example, if you selected Round Points and awarded 2 points for a 2nd round underdog pick then Jerry would get 2 points.

    Another example:

Round 1: #5 Wisconsin vs #12 SW Missouri St. -- John Doe picks SW Missouri

SW Missouri wins, John Doe would get points for underdog bonus.

Round 1: #4 Tennessee vs #13 Delaware -- John Doe picks Delaware,

Tennessee wins, John Doe gets no points

Round 2: Matchup is #12 SW Missouri St. vs #4 Tennessee

Person picked #12 SW Missouri St over #13 Delaware.

JOHN DOE IS TAKING NO UNDERDOG RISK IN THIS GAME. HE IS PICKING A HIGHER SEEDED TEAM ON HIS SHEET therefore even if SW Missouri St. beats Tennessee, John Doe will get no underdog bonus points.

    NIT Tournament:

The NIT Tournament is similar to the NCAA Tournament except it is only 32 teams, and there are no underdog bonuses awarded in this tournament. When the bracket is released, go to http://opbgn.com/nit2011/tournamententry.html and fill out the entire bracket and submit it to me by the date listed above. The scoring for the NIT pool is as follows:

    First Round - 1 pt
    Second Round - 2 pts
    Quarterfinals - 4 pts
    Semifinals - 8 pts
    Champion - 16 pts

    Other:
Last years tournament information is still available if you want to see how you performed last year or to get an idea of how these pools will work.

Yep. Real Time Strategy Game that I actually beta tested. Quite a bit of fun. The sequel SCII is quite fun as well.

Well, considering the fact that the interest in the college football pick'em completely died over the last couple of weeks and only one other person did the Bowl Week, that ended up being a bit of an incomplete.

Lastly, the Women's NCAA Pool is there for you Blonde. It's one that doesn't get as many entries and traditionally you'll have a better shot at winning it. ;) Plus, there is a shot that EMU might get in as they play for the MAC Championship tomorrow. They were the most successful team on campus the entire time I was there and honestly would probably beat our men's team. lol. Normally though most enter the main pool.

One year I actually tried doing the other two post-season tournaments as well. Didn't work out too well. :)

I'll enter the women's NCAA pool also. I've been following Women's basketball a bit since Fresno State's team has been so good recently. If they win the WAC tourny championship tomorrow they will be in the NCAAs for the 4th straight season. A loss would probably knock them into the WNIT though despite 25 wins.

My mom ended up picking Butler to the Elite 8, looking like a decent pick at this point. The women's results are at: http://opbgn.com/wncaa2011/ ; the drop off in the # of entries is very dramatic this year. lol.

Butler's solid. They were in the championship game last season. I'm glad I didn't join this. I had Pitt playing Louisville in the Final Four. What an abomination.

Yeah she did a good job. Everything literally fell in place for her on Sunday. This is the first year in my pool that it has been over before the Final Four. lol.
