    #14 Cal @ #10 Maryland

~Maryland would kick off their season in exciting fashion as the 14th ranked Cal Bears came to College Park. Maryland didn't really know what to expect going into this season with new starting QB Danny O'Brien and starting HB DJ Adams. They learned quickly that this season needs to be filled with patience. Cal would receive the ball and on their first offensive play score a 61 yard TD. Maryland quickly charged the field, but QB O'Brien would be knocked out for 1 quarter after trying to scramble away from pressure. Two plays later, HB DJ Adams fumbled the ball, turning it over to the Bears. Cal would manage a field goal to take an early 10-0 lead. Maryland wouldn't hold back as they scored back-to-back TDs including this 27 yard run by HB DJ Adams, making up for the fumble...

Adams punched in the 2nd of the 2 TDs from a yard out in the 2nd quarter. Cal would respond with 1:57 left in the 2nd on a 3 yard rush by Heisman hopeful HB Mooney. Maryland would then go on a tear, scoring 3 TDs in 1:10. Two Danny O'Brien TD passes, one a 70 yarder to WR Stinebaugh and a 58 yarder to WR Powell, and an 11 yard rush by HB Adams. Cal's Mooney wouldn't let the Terps take all the momentum to the half, as he tacked on a 72 yard TD run before the half. Cal would light up the 2nd half scoring one touchdown and two field goals to take a 36-35 lead with just over 4 minutes left. The Maryland offense would burn the clock and march the field. They managed to take care of the rest of the game clock and win the game on a last second 29-yard FG by K Hamilton as time expired! A thriller in Byrd Stadium to start the season off, as Byrd prepares to host the rising Tigers of Mizzou.

    #11 Maryland @ Wake Forest

~Maryland found a diamond in the rough in HB Tommy Jones. Back up to starting running back DJ Adams, Jones didn't see much playing time at all as Adams has the stamina of a gazelle. Today was his day to standout. After Adams fumbled a ball in the Wake redzone, Coach Cimmy decided to put Jones in to talk to Adams. Jones shined, showing Maryland and their fans that the Terps have a 1-2 punch rushing tandem. Maryland played an outstanding game despite fumbling the ball twice, both inside the Demon Deacons 20 yard line. The Terps defense gave up only 81 yards rushing on 22 attempts throughout and held Wake to 3 of 9 on 3rd down. The Maryland offense ran circles around Wake, carrying the ball 47 total times for 208 yards and 3 TDs including DJ Adams 2 yard scamper.

Adams would finish the day with 24 carries for 82 yards and a TD and his new counterpart, HB Tommy Jones carried the ball 16 times for 101 yards and 2 TDs as Maryland went on to win by a final of 35 to 17.

~The 5th ranked Terps hosted the Cavaliers of Virginia and put on a show for the home fans. Virginia only managed 29 yards rushing on the day while Maryland finished with 250 yards. The Maryland defense picked things up from their past performances in this one only giving up 10 points. They set the tone for the game with this game opening kickoff where they forced a fumble and took it home.

    Maryland @ Florida St

After a heartbreaking loss to Virginia Tech, Maryland would again travel to face an extremely tough Florida St Seminole football team. FSU would come out guns blazing and score first on an 8 yard TD pass from Secord to Oliver. Maryland would be forced to punt on their opening drive, but stick it on the 1, which eventually resulted in a safety for the Terps. Maryland would receive the ball and this time march down the field and score on a 5 yard DJ Adams run, giving Maryland a 9-7 1st quarter lead.

In the second, FSU would respond with an 8 yard scamper by Godfrey. Maryland and FSU would exchange the lead the rest of the half. A 12 yard pass from O'Brien to Gilliam would eventually be responded by a 7 yard pass from Secord to Ross with 47 seconds left. However, before the half would close, O'Brien would find Zeigler on a post route that would go the distance, 63 yards for the go ahead TD before the half. 23-21 Terps.

The second half would be all Maryland. After a scoreless 3rd quarter, Maryland would run two more TDs in by Adams and Smith to secure a 37-21 victory on the road. In all, 4 FSU turnovers would be the final deciding factor. HB DJ Adams would be the player of the game with 134 yards and 2 TDs on 33 carries for the Terps. Maryland is on a bye week before another road game, this time out of conference against the currently 25th ranked Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor.
