Gone is the draft and we're now underway in the 2018 season. The Jets, a team hoping to find their identity on offense, have invested heavily in offense via the draft and through free agency and trades. In 2017, the Jets boldly traded their 2nd year WR, the talented Keliko Ambles + 1st Round Pick to the Seahawks for burner and deep threat (and recently resigned) Percy Harvin. Then in the 2018 offseason, they traded their 2nd + 3rd round picks for an opposite burner in TY Hilton. You would think they were done, but no. A team desperate for playmakers with the home-run capability, the Jets went out and shored up their special teams by acquiring the even faster, yet injury-prone Jacoby Ford. The Jets round out their WR corps with the acrobatic Jerome Simpson, and incredibly large David Lofton who stands at 6'6.

The Jets have also secured the future of Dezrick Carr through a recent contact extension, who is nothing short of a freakish athlete with Jimmy Graham type abilities. Opposite of Carr is the journeyman Jermaine Gresham, who played admirably when Carr went down with a season ending injury last season. This team is loaded with weapons on the offensive side of the ball, but who is going to pound the rock and throw to these WRs? Well, that's what the Jets addressed in the draft:

    QB: Othneil Richmond (@TheNextMikeVickakaOthniel)

Othneil Richmond, as noted in his Twitter handle, is pretty much the spitting image of the young Mike Vick. A left-handed QB with explosive speed and a huge arm, the sky is the limit for this kid out of Rice. He has some technique and footwork to refine if he's going to be an elite passer in the league, but signs indicate that Richmond is taking to his coaching well and has improved mightily in his first few weeks in the NFL. Richmond definitely has the arm to out-throw his speedy WRs Harvin, Hilton, and Ford. The question is, can he actually hit them in stride in the short and intermediate routes.

    RB: Bar'ee Suber (@SuberBareeio)

Like Richmond, Bar'ee Suber is an explosive athlete, a much needed upgrade to the Jets RB position that was ignored for the last few years. Suber provides the Jets with excellent burst and home run hitting ability. He is shifty behind a very good O-Line and can run through or around defenders if needed. His big knock has been ball security, but he's improving as a young rookie. His upside outweighs his flaws.

Off to a modest start, Suber looks to solidfy the Jets RB woes once and for all.

    CB: Emmanuel Afo (@EAfoo)

On the defensive side of the ball, the Jets are a little thin in the secondary. Milliner has the #1 CB position locked down, but there is a lot of uncertainty around the #2/#3 CB spots. Rumors are swirling that the Jets will look to move Josh Wilson to FS in 2019 if Afo can develop into a starting CB in the league. Walter Thurmond III will move into the slot and Asa Jackson can come in for Dime and Quarter packages, all assuming they are on the roster in 2019 and barring any blockbuster moves or draft picks.

So far, Afo seems to be holding his own as a CB. He lacks the explosive make up speed to catch the premier WRs in the league, but what he lacks in explosiveness, he makes up for in technique. If he continues to hone his skills and master his craft, he could be a steal at the end of the 1st round.

Compares to: CB - Alterraun Verner
