Jason Merian continues his steady improvement and is proving he is indeed worthy of being the #1 pick in 2013. Going up against a stingy Eagles defense with one of the best if not the best CB trio in the league with Nnamdi, DRC and Jerraud Powers, Merian and his coaches stressed ball security this week in practice. Even though he threw 1 pick, Merian still controlled the game throwing for almost 300 yards and a touchdown while also running one in from about 10 yards out. With the run game completely shut down by the Eagles strong front 7, Merian was able to step up and make huge plays with his arm and his feet. The play of the game would come with the game tied at 13 and under 2 minutes left. Coming out in a bunch formation, Merian spotted Nnamdi playing off of WR Mike Williams and opted for a quick hitch. Williams would make the catch and break the tackle and streak 80 yards for the score as Eagles defenders would fall back hoping to reserve enough time for a game tying score. On their first play, Patrick Peterson would pick off Tannehill for his 2nd pick of the day and the Cards would run out the clock to seal the game and a 20-13 victory.
