    Santana masterful in CG shutout of Reds



    (AP) Flushing, NY - The Mets got off to a great start to the new season as they had their Ace on the mound in Johan Santana in their home opener in front of a sold out crowd at Citi Field. Santana was dominant from start to finish as he pitched a complete game 3 hit shutout not allowing a runner past 2nd base the entire game while striking out 6. Carlos Beltran made his return which was a great sight for all Mets fans as he went 3/4 including an rbi single to get the scoring started. Angel Pagan and Jose Reyes would have 2 hits a piece including an rbi and a stolen base for Pagan in a 3-0 win.

    Mets cant figure out Kuroda in 5-1 loss

    (AP) Los Angeles, CA - The Mets went on the road to to Dodger Stadium to face their nemesis Hiroki Kuroda. Kuroda dominated Met hitters all day only striking out 1 but getting pop ups in nearly every inning keeping the Mets off balance. The Mets lone run would come in the 8th inning as Fernando Tatis would get a pinch hit RBI single. The Mets did get a suprise quality start from John Maine who gave up just 1 run in 5 2/3 innings but the bullpen would give up an additional 4 runs as the Mets suffer their 1st loss of the season.

    Mets Outlast Marlins 3-2

    (AP) Flushing, NY - The Mets and Marlins hooked up for the 1st game on the schedule at Citi Field in front of 41,800. Mike Pelfrey (1-0) matched Josh Johnson pitch for pitch as this was sure to be a pitchers duel. The Mets would tack on 2 runs in the 2nd after Jason Bay doubled followed by RBI Singles by Rod Barajas and Luis Castillio. It would remain 2-0 until Cody Ross hit an rbi triple in the gap scoring Hanley Ramierez to make it 2-1. Both teams would add 1 more run as it would come down to the 9th with a 3-2 Mets lead and Krod on the mound to try and close it out. Dan Uggla would hit a 2 out single to give the Marlins life but Baker would strike out to end the game.

    Player of the game: Rod Barajas 3-3 2 RBI, 2B

    Pelfrey pitches 6 hit shutout in 7-0 rout of Yankees

    (AP) Flushing, NY - The Mets were looking to end their 2 game losing streak and they had the right person on the mound in Mike Pelfrey. The Mets would get a run across in the 1st inning with a single and a stolen base by Reyes setting up an RBI single by Beltran. That would be all the Mets would need as Pelfrey was sharp from start to finish pitching a complete game shutout striking out 8 for his 2nd win of the season with a 0.64 ERA. The Mets bats finally got hot as they would get RBI hits from 5 different players including Pelfrey himself. Angel Pagan had an 0-4 going until he singled in the 9th to extend his hitting streak to 6.

    Santana, Mets welcome Pedro back home to NY

    Omar Minaya and the NY Mets broke the bank to bring back one of their own. Minaya shelled out 23M to add 38 year old Pedro Martinez to the rotation and Johan Santana welcomed him back with open arms. Pedro is slated to pitch on Saturday where he will make his 1st appearance for the Mets in 2 years. " We are excited to have Pedro back, not just on the mound but the presense he has for us in the locker room " said Jerry Manuel. The Mets have already setup the rotation slotting Pedro at the 4th spot behind Santana, Pelfrey, and Barry Zito.

    Tatis,Bay provide the offense as Pedro shuts down Rays in 14-3 Rout

    (AP) St Petersburgh, FL - The Mets got a strong outing from recently aquired Pedro Martinez as he went 6 strong striking out 8 giving up 3 runs for his 1st win this season. The Mets bats were smoking as they pounded out 25 hits scoring 14 runs. Fernando Tatis went 6 for 6 with a HR and 2 RBI's while Jason Bay finished just a double shy of the cycle incluidng his 2nd HR of the season. The Mets also got RBI's from 7 different hitters and every hitter in the lineup got a hit. Chad Bradord pitched the final 3 innings to earn a 3 inning Save. The Mets now move back over .500 and will look to keep it going.

    Barajas and Zito lead Mets to 3rd straight Win

    Rod Barajas hit a 2nd inning 3 run HR and David Wright hit his 2nd HR of the season to give the Mets an early 6-0 lead. The Mets would never relinquish the lead as Barry Zito pitched a Complete Game allowing just 8 hits and 1 run for his 1st Win as a Met. The Mets now improve to 5-3 and are playing well after an early slump to start the season.

    Beltran, Santana lead Mets to victory at Miller Park

    The Mets after a 5-0 loss to the Redsox were looking to come out swinging and put some runs on the scoreboard early. They would score in the 1st as Beltran blasted a pitch in the Left Field seats. Luis Castillio and Rod Barajas would add solo shots as well to give the Mets a 3-1 lead. Santana had another good start in his 3rd start of the season as he went 7 innings giving up just 1 run on 3 hits for his 2nd win of the season. Krod would come on in the 9th to get his 2nd save of the season.

    Mets get Power and a little luck from Murphy in 7-6 win over A's

    (AP) Oakland, CA - The Mets went out west to face the rejuvenated Oakland A's as Pelfrey looked to run his record to 3-0. The A's would go ahead first on an Eric Chavez 2 run HR. The Mets battled back thanks to 3 HR's, 2 by Daniel Murphy and 1 by Beltran to take a 6-2 lead in the 6th. The A's would battle back as the invincible Pelfrey was finally touched up for 4 runs before departing. The A's would tie the game in the 7th when Pennington hit a 2 run single with the bases loaded. The Mets got some luck in the 8th with 2 outs and nobody on Murphy hit a bullet that short hopped Chavez and went over his head as Murphy was on 1st. Angel Pagan then hit a 2 out RBI triple to give the Mets a 7-6. The Mets would hang on as Krod pitched a 1-2-3 inning for his 3rd Save of the season.

    Krod nails down 2nd straight Save in 4-3 Win.

    The Mets got another strong outing from Pedro Martinez despite giving up a 2nd inning 3 run HR to Joe Crede. Scott Baker had the Met hitters no hit through 5 innings before the bats finally woke up late. Beltran had a RBI double and David Wright would add an RBI single in the 8th to tie the game. Jason Bay would drive in the go ahead run with an rbi double and Krod would nail down the 9th for his 4th save of the season.

    Beltran, Barajas power Mets past Rockies

    (AP) Flushing, NY - Carlos Beltran hit a 1st inning 2 run HR and would drive in another with an RBI double. Rod Barajas would add to that with a 2 run HR to give the Mets an early 5-0 lead. The Rockies would come back and add 3 runs of their own on Zito but Zito did work 7 strong innings to get his 2nd win of the season. Krod would come on in the 9th for the 3rd straight game earning his 5th save of the season. Krod has been outstanding so far this year going 5/5 in save oppourtunites and has yet to give up an earned run putting his ERA at 0.00. The Mets have now won 4 in a row to move in front of the hated Marlins by a half game.

    Tigers cant solve Knuckleball as Mets win pitchers duel 2-1.

    (AP) Flushing, NY- The Mets were riding a 4 game winning streak and decided to call up R.A. Dickey the knuckleballer and was set to get his 1st start of the season. The Knuckleball was dancing all game long as Dickey pitched 7 strong innings giving up just 3 hits and 1 run. Verlander was just as dominant blowing hitters away all game, that is except for Luis Castillio who went 2/3 with a triple,double, and what ended being the game winning rbi in the 8th. Krod would come on in the 9th striking out the side for his 6th Save of the season.

    Loss: Justin Verlander (1-1)
    Save: Francisco Rodriguez (6)
