Krod makes spring debut to preserve Mets 4-2 Win
The Mets took the field for their Spring Training Debuy to face the Brewers. It would be Mike Pelfrey vs Yovani Gallarado. The Mets got off to a quick start as the 1st 4 hitters would reach base including an RBI double by David Wright and a single up the middle by Beltran that would core 2 more for an early 3-0 Mets lead. The Brewers would add a run of their own in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Ryan Braun to bring the Brewers within 2. Both Pitchers would settle in after that and pitch 5 scoreless. After a Beltran leadoff single the Mets would cash in on a Gallarado error as he attempted to pick Beltran off and instead the ball would end up in the stands putting Beltran at 3rd who would eventually score on a Jason Bay sac fly to put the Mets up 4-1. The Brewers would add a solo HR from Prince Fielder to make it 4-2 but would come no closer as the Mets bullpen shut the door for a 4-2 win.
Mike Pelfrey pitched 6 innings llowing 6 hits 2 runs while striking out 11 for his 1st win of the spring. Krod would come on for the 9th going 1-2-3 for his 1st save.

Jason Bay powers Mets past Red Sox in 5-2 Win
    [IMG]
(AP) Port St Lucie, FL - The Mets continued their trend of getting off to a fast start this spring as they came out of the gates early. David Wright had an RBI triple and Jason Bay added a 2 run HR to go up 3-0 in the bottom of the 1st. R.A. Dickey had a no hitter going into the 5th when the Red Sox finally stringed together a couple of hits scoring a run to make it 3-1. However Jason Bay struck again for another 2 run HR to give the Mets a 5-1 lead. Carl Crawford would hit a solo shot to bring the Sox back to within 3 but the Mets bullpen would shut the door as Krod came on in the 9th to get the Save as the Mets win 5-2. Jason Bay got player of the game honors as he went 3-3 with 2 HR's, 4 RBI's, and a BB. "I'm just seeing the ball well right now and hope I continue to improve my game going into the regular season so I can help this team score some runs" Said Jason Bay after the game. The Mets will now head to the Semi-Final in the tournament to face the Red hot Colorodo Rockies.

    Mets release 2B Luis Castillo

One moment, Luis Castillo could find his name written into the lineup for the New York Mets' Grapefruit League game set for Friday afternoon.

The next moment, the club announced it was releasing Castillo, who had $6 million guaranteed remaining on his contract.
They essentially are paying him to scram. MLB.com writes that Brad Emaus, Daniel Murphy, Luis Hernandez and Justin Turner are the remaining competitors for the second base job.
Castillo, 35, spent three-plus seasons with the Mets, and most of the times seemed to be unhappy ones. They were marked by extensive injuries and below-average performances offensively and defensively. Performances that also were well-below standards Castillo, a three-time Gold Glove winner, had set.
Even worse, the Mets overall performance has declined since Castillo's arrival during the 2007 season. He has been viewed as a $25 million symbol — and sometimes a symptom — of the club's problems.

What does this mean for the TBL Mets? Daniel Murphy is slated to move right into his spot for the time being where the Mets will suffer defensively so dont be suprised to see a 2B by committee approach this season until someone really stands out to take the everyday job.

(AP) Johan Santana had his final spring warmup against the arch rival Phillies and he looked like he was in midseason form. The Mets got an rbi single from Ronnie Paulino who got the start over Thole against the Leftie Cole Hamels to take a 1-0 lead. The Mets would add on 2 more in the 8th thanks to a pinch hit RBI triple by Lucas Duda and pinch hit sac fly by Daniel Murphy for a 3-0 lead. Santana was dominant throught pitching 8 strong innings giving up just 3 hits while striking out 14. K-rod made his first apperarance of the spring pitching a scoreless 9th inning for the Save

Beltran and Bay lead Mets to Opening Day Win over Braves
    [IMG]
(AP) Queens, NY - The NY Mets played host to the Atlanta Braves on Opening night at Citi Field that put Johan Santana against Derek Lowe to kickoff Season 1 of TBL. The Mets would strike quickly in the bottom of the 1st as Carlos Beltran hit a 2 out 2 run HR for a 2-0 Mets lead. It wouldnt end there as a Freddie Freeman error with 2 outs would allow Ike Davis to reach 1st and on the next pitch Jason Bay would make them pay on a 2 run absolute blast to left field for a 4-0 Mets lead. That would be all the Mets would need as Johan Santana was dominant going 6 innings allowing just 3 hits and 1 run while striking out 10 to pickup his 1st win of the season. Byrdak and Beato would pitch a scoreless 3 innings coming out of the bullpen which coming into the season was a concern for the Mets but they did their job as the Mets coast to a 6-1 win.
    Johan Santana (1-0)
    Derek Lowe (0-1)
