This is an on-going piece this pre-season where I will take Position battles that are underway throughout the league and put up ratings. From there, the league will decide who THEY would start. This first edition will be a position battle everyone should have a great deal of interest in.
There is 3 way DE battle. Who would you start? Let us take a look at the tale of the tape....
    This is a 4-3 defense.
    DE #1
    Age: 20
    Strength: 90
    Speed: 74
    Tackle: 79
    Pursuit: 58
    Block Shedding: 60
    Finesse Move: 67
    Power Move: 78
    DE #2
    Age: 23
    Strength: 77
    Speed: 83
    Tackle: 69
    Pursuit: 87
    Block Shedding: 82
    Finesse Move: 74
    Power Move: 88
    DE #3
    Age: 20
    Strength: 75
    Speed: 89
    Tackle: 67
    Pursuit: 80
    Block Shedding: 60
    Finesse Move: 85
    Power Move: 67

Not even a competition to me. I first look at block shedding, then speed. Option 2 most definitely.

That and his finesse / power moves are pretty good too.

This battle came out of St. Louis Rams camp.

DE 1 = Rookie Blake Gandy
DE 2 = Robert Quinn (WINNER)
DE 3 = Rookie Enoch Williams

    +1

#2 by a mile for me. The lack of strength combined with power moves is a bit of a concern for me, but that block shedding is so important and so much better than the others.

Why #2? Doesn't player schemes matter?

Example, a player is 86 overall under one scheme but 80 overall under another.

If you look at my team for example, my wr if played under a different schemes, they have different at very least overall ratings. I would not have signed the 2 in FA thatI did if the scheme was different than it currently is now. Position battles are decided by what skills matter most to position the coach is looking for.

you are right, but the skills don't change, just the overall. we are basing it solely on the skills the players have. I honestly do not care terribly about scheme, I look at the skills that matter to me most and try to fit my "schemes" around those attributes, but it doesn't always work out that way.

DE's - block shedding, pursuit, finesse/power moves, play recognition, tackling, strength, speed/accel. That is how I judge a DE, and those attributes are in order for me.

So what is the significance of the following attributes/grades? They are physical, intangibles, durability, size, and production. I compared 3 players on my team at one position and all 3 players had these ratings/grades change when I changed their scheme. All other ratings did stay the same though.

I'm not really sure about durability and physical, but size depends on if a DE is in a 3-4 or 4-3 End position, and that will also affect production and intangibles, I was mostly referring to the stats they posted.

Hopefully they will both make a big impact this year.

Enoch will be starting at LE, opposite Quinn.
