the place for hurricane game wrap-ups
Canes Return Home 0-3
Blacksburg, VA- The University of Miami football team is returning home in an 0-3. The Hurricanes played their rival Virginia Tech Hokies tough all game, coming back twice from 7 point deficits, but couldn't do a third time in overtime when Jacory Harris' 4th down pass was batted down in the endzone by a Hokie defensive back.
The Hokies received the opening kick-off and took the lead after a 2 minute opening drive on a 1-yard run. Miami then responded tying up the game 3 minutes later on a play-action pass from the Hokie 4 yardline. With a little more than 3 minutes left in the half, Virginia Tech scored on a 4-yard pass for their second lead of the game. The game would remain 14-7 until their was less than a minute left in the 3rd quarter on a 1-yard run by running back Graig Cooper. Cooper was the game's leading rusher with 76 yards on 27 carries and the one touchdown. Two and a half minutes later, Miami took their only lead of the game on a 63-yard touchdown pass from Harris to Aldarius Johnson, when he hauled in a pass on his post pattern, broke a tackle and sprinted into the endzone. The Hurricanes looked to have the game won when they got the ball back with a little over 2 minutes left in the game, but when the drive stalled, the Canes were forced to give the Hokies the ball back. Virginia Tech drove down and scored on a Tyrod Taylor pass with just 34 seconds left in the game forcing overtime. Miami ran out of gas in overtime and couldn't answer Virginia Tech's touchdown when they turned the ball over on downs.
The #14 Hokies improved to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in the ACC. The Canes three losses have all come in conference play and have an uphill battle the rest of the season.
Miami returned home from Winston-Salem with their second win of the season. The offense was solid all day led by Jacory Harris. Write up to follow tonight when I get home from coaching.
The Miami Hurricanes rode the arm of Jacory Harris and legs of Graig Copper to an easy win over the outmatched Duke Blue Devils. The game was never in doubt from the end of the first quarter on. Miami notched just their fourth win of a disappointing season to improve to 4-7.
