    2011 Preview
Michigan State comes off a great season with a heartbreaking bowl defeat in the 2010 season. This year is going to be different as Cousins is going to dominate his Senior season. Newly appointed Head Coach Masler has moved Bell to the starting HB position with Baker as his backup. The receivers are primed to make the big plays. The only concern here is a low rated defense that has the abilityis just inconsistent. This season will depend on big plays from the Team Captains and Seniors
    Prediction
I believe we will mirror the real life Spartans and make straight for the inaugural B1G Championship game, this time winning it without actors playing kicker. But if I had to say at worst, then we will go 9-3 with a CCG appearance.

Spartans win in opening day thriller
    [IMG]
WR BJ Cunningham catches the game winning touchdown.
    #15 Michigan State - 44
    Colorado - 41
It would appear Michigan State is the second half team they have been in the past couple of seasons. Colorado was dominating early, picking Cousins off 3 times in the first half and holding a 24-10 lead going into halftime. The Spartans would hold off Colorado to start the second half but were unable to produce points themselves. Colorado would extend their lead to 31-10 and Michigan State was all but beat. But WR Keshawn Martin would prove all was not lost as he kicked off the fireworks with a 91 yard kickoff return for a TD. Close to the end of the third quarter Martin would haul in a 38 yard TD reception, bringing MSU within 7 points. The 4th quarter saw Colorado put up another TD and extend their lead once again. Martin would haul in another pass while Cousins would run one in for the game tying touchdown. Darqueze Dennard would intercept the CU QB just moments after Cousins tied the game, but the Spartan offense was unable to produce any points, this game was going into OT.
    OT
Colorado tried to run on all three downs, something they had major success with all day, but big man Jerel Worthy stuffed each attempt. The Buffaloes were forced to settle with a FG. Michigan State now had their chance to win this one and they took full advantage of that. After a short first down conversion Kirk Cousins would find BJ Cunningham wide open in the back of the endzone for the winning score.
Michigan State overcomes a large deficit to start off the season with a W. Up next week is Florida Atlantic.
    Stats
    K. Cousins - 22/40, 355 yards, 4 TD, 3 INT, 7 Att, 19 yards, 1 Rushing TD, 1 Fumble Lost
    L. Bell - 28 Att, 103 yards, 1 Rec, 15 yards
    B. Cunningham - 8 Rec, 114 yards, 2 TD
    K. Martin - 4 Rec, 105 yards, 2 TD, 7 KR, 225 yards, 1 KR TD
    J. Worthy - 8 Tackles, 3 TFL, 2 Sacks
    M. Bullough - 8 Tackles, 1 INT, 4 Deflections
In Recruiting News: :4stars: SS Terry Thompson signs with the Spartans instantly. The kid brings B+ Speed, B+ Accel, C+ Tackle, C+ Man, B- Zone, and B- Jumping. This kid should be a force in our secondary for years to come.

    Spartans finish off Owls easily
    #15 Michigan State - 45
    Florida Atlantic - 10
Michigan State's rushing attack ruled the day today with all 3 scoring at least 1 touchdown, even Kirk Cousins would scamper 5 yards for a score. Baker was extremely explosive with 40 yard and 35 yard touchdown runs. Cousins was OK in the passing game, didn't break 200 yards but did toss one score. The defense did well until the backups let up the only touchdown FAU managed all day. Pretty dull game in the end.
Sparty improves to 2-0 and have a real test next week vs rival Notre Dame.
    Stats
    K. Cousins - 12/21, 177 yards, TD, 1 INT, 1 Rushing TD
    L. Bell - 24 Att, 145 yards, TD
    E. Baker - 10 Att, 92 yards, 2 TD
    L. Caper - 3 Att, 5 yards, TD
    B. Cunningham - 5 REc, 103 yards, TD
    J. Worthy - 6 Tackles, 2 TFL, Sack
    T. Robinson - 6 Tackles, INT

Fighting Irish can't pull off comeback!!

    #15 Michigan State - 37

    #21 Notre Dame - 34

The Battle for the Megaphone was as crazy as ever. Notre Dame built a quick 17-10 lead but Trenton Robinson's interception return for a touchdown started the back and forth game. Neither team could take the lead for very long before the other would storm back. Only once the forth quarter came along and Michigan State scored 10 straight points would the game get a bit more lopsided. The Spartans were able to hold off a spark by the Notre Dame offense. The game would end with the Spartan D deflecting a pass as time ran out.

Michigan State wins 3 straight. Up next is Central Michigan.

    Stats

    K. Cousins - 15/33, 190 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT, 11 Att, 25 yards, 1 Rushing TD
    L. Bell - 13 Att, 127 yards
    T. Robinson - 5 Tackles, 2 Deflections, INT-TD

Sparty On! > Fire Up Chips!

    #11 Michigan State - 52

    Central Michigan - 14

This game wasn't very exiting because the Chippewas had a one track mind on offense: get the ball to the HB. They passed in the HB's direction all day long or tried silly options that resulted in TFL. All of this resulted in just 35 yards on 29 carries. Michigan State on the other hand had a great day on offense with Cousins throwing 4 touchdowns and Maxwell throwing one himself. The rushing attack was potent and Coach Masler decided to give Baker the starting job once again after another dominant perfomance as the backup.

Michigan State is 4-0 and head down to Columbus to the play the #3 Buckeyes Week 5. This could be our first loss of the season if we aren't careful...

    Stats

    K. Cousins - 11/16, 176 yards, 4 TD
    A. Maxwell - 4/5, 126 yards, TD

    L. Bell - 15 Att, 120 yards
    E. Baker - 12 Att, 89 yards

    K. Martin - 3 Rec, 101 yards, 2 TD
    K. Nichol - 5 Rec, 49 yards, 2 TD
    B. Fowler - 2 Rec, 91 yards, TD

State steals one away from Buckeyes!

    #9 Michigan State - 34

    #3 Ohio State - 20

The game was very close in the first half with both team matching each other score for score. But the turning point came when OSU was only able to get a FG while MSU managed the TD. After this the Buckeyes were unable to do anything productive on offense except one lone score in the 3rd quarter. They had a chance to take the lead after the half when they got the ball but a fumble by Bauserman allowed Cousins to find Cunningham for an 18 yard TD. Bauserman would again turn the ball over, this time throwing it right into Max Bullough's area. Cousins would hook up again with BJ, this time from 19 yards out. The 14 point lead would be held through the rest of the game as neither team was very productive in the 4th quarter.

The Spartans come away with a huge win are now 5-0 heading into a Bye week. Up next is the annual fight for the Paul Bunyan vs Michigan.

    Stats

    K. Cousins - 11/20, 206 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT
    E. Baker - 22 Att, 146 yards, TD
    B. Cunningham - 4 Rec, 65 yards, 2 TD
    K. Martin - 3 Rec, 75 yards, TD

Better luck next year little sister.

    #4 Michigan State - 35

    Michigan - 33

The two in state rivals clashed terrifically today and the Spartans would come out on top and keep Mr. Bunyan in East Lansing for another year. Shoelace and the Wolverines came on late in the second half but a missed PAT (Michigan's one true weakness) and a failed 2pt conversion were the only things keeping this game from going into overtime. Kirk Cousins had a great day until he sprained his ACL and sat out for two quarters. Backup QB Andrew Maxwell stepped in and played great, throwing 3 touchdowns. Michigan had a very strong rush defense as they held MSU under 100 yards rushing. The game would end for Michigan on a 3rd and long sack.

State escapes with their record intact at 5-0. The October murders row continues next with #2 Wisconsin, a game which is surely to be a clash of the titans.

    Stats

    A. Maxwell - 6/11, 168 yards, 3 TD
    K. Cousins - 9/19, 164 yards, TD
    B. Cunningham - 4 Rec, 105 yards, TD
    K. Martin - 3 Rec, 133 yards, 2 TD

    Spartans edge Badgers

    #3 Michigan State - 21

    #2 Wisconsin - 16

Sparty would score 21 first half points and that was just enough to win them this game. Wisconsin struggled largely on offense until the fourth quarter when they would score 13 straight, failing their only 2 point conversion. Russel Wilson wasn't his usual self and he made poor decisions and found himself sacked 7 times, all by defensive lineman. The stars of our offense were Cousins and Baker. Kirk would only miss one pass today while Baker scampered close to 150 yards. The Badgers would match Baker on the ground with Ball gaining 129 of his own with one TD. Wisconsin had a chance to win this one after they recovered the onside kick but Wilson overthrew Abbrederis on the final play, sealing it for MSU. This game had no turnovers.

Michigan State gets the huge win and are now 7-0(3-0). Up next the October gauntlet ends with a trip to Nebraska.

    Stats

    K. Cousins - 15/16, 185 yards, 2 TD
    E. Baker - 23 Att, 140 yards, TD, 2 Rec, 21 yards
    K. Martin - 5 Rec, 61 yards, 2 TD
    J. Worthy - 7 Tackles, 3 TFL, 3 Sacks

Big week of recruiting after the W over Wiscy

:1stars: DT Willis Lane - 6'0" 268lbs - Don't let his star rating fool you, this kid might be a JUCO JR but his skills are fairly decent with C+ Strength, B- Finesse, C+ Pursuit, and C+ Power. I don't see him as a starter but can imagine him as an able backup.

    :1stars: FB Oliver Singleton - 6'1" 257lbs - Just a position need.

:4stars: HB Deon Wilson - 6'1" 209lbs - This kid is fast fast fast and can avoid the defense great. He has A speed with B+ Accel. His evasion skills include B- Spin, B- Juke and B- Elusiveness. I would like to see him get some PT year 1.

    :4stars: WR Thomas Williams - 5'11" 183 lbs - Not a bad receiver. B Speed, C Catching, B- Route Running and B Jumping.

:4stars: HB Michael Moody - 6'0" 208lbs - Another speedy back for the Spartan backfield but he is slightly worse than Wilson. A- Speed, B- Accel, C+ Elusiveness, C+ Spin and B Juke.

    :3stars: Bill Madsen - 5'11" 193lbs - We needed a QB and got a decent one. B- Throw Power, C+ Throw Accuracy.

:2stars: Kenneth McDonald - 5'11" 203lbs - Not bad for a 2 Star but sadly he is another JUCO JR. A Accel, B- Play Recognition, C+ Block Shed, C+ Pursuit, and B- Strength

:2stars: Clay Caldwell - 6'3" 315lbs - All of my 2stars are JUCO JR, didn't see this before. He COULD start immediately as all of his blocking skills are B- or better with B Accel.

    Martinez chokes on final play

    #1 Michigan State - 34

    #16 Nebraska - 28

Kirk Cousins would go down early in the game due to a concussion and that would really cripple the offense. Edwin Baker would rush over 150 yards and have 2 TD's. Keshawn Martin would add his own TD on a kickoff return. The Huskers connected on a deep pass with just under 20 seconds left in the game that would put them at the 15 yard line. Martinez would spike the ball on 1st, Burkhead would get stuffed on second, Martinez would spike on third. The big play came on 4th and 12 when Martinez would fire into the back of the endzone to tie the game but unfortunately for him it was double coverage and Tony Lippett was in perfect position to intercept the game ending pass.

The Spartans escape the Sea of Red at 8-0(4-0). Minnesota comes to EL next week.

    Stats

    E. Baker - 30 Att, 154 yards, 2 TD
    K. Martin - KR-TD

    Week 10 Recruiting Update

:3stars: ATH Maurice Martin - 5'11" 192lbs - Not quite sure where this kid will end up but it's looking like FS or CB.

:4stars: MLB Jon McCauley - 5'10" 241lbs - Very good with his tackling ability, will see significant PT. B- Tackle, B Play Recognition, C+ Block Shed, and B+ Pursuit

:4stars: WR Cameron Davis - 6'2" 169lbs - Mostly a possession guy but that is something we need. B Speed, C Catching, B- Jumping and C+ Route Running.

    Spartans rout Gophers

    #1 Michigan State - 42

    Minnesota - 14

By far the best showing MSU has shown on defense all year. They would only allow 9 yards rushing on 25 carries and would sack Gray 5 times. Kirk Cousins started off this game by throwing 2 redzone interceptions, one that would be taken back for 6. Coach Masler sat the Senior down and told him to shape up or he would be taken out of the game. Something clicked in the kids head as he went on to throw for over 300 yards and 5 TD in a dominant performance. WR Martin would be open 3 times for touchdowns and his presence commanded respect in the receiving game, catching one of his TD's in triple coverage with a defender in his face.

Michigan State continues to win at 9-0(5-0). Up next a trip to Iowa.

    Stats

    K. Cousins - 19/29, 318 yards, 5 TD, 2 INT
    A. Maxwell - 1/1, 31 yards, TD
    E. Baker - 19 Att, 103 yards
    K. Martin - 9 Rec, 179 yards, 3 TD
    B. Cunningham - 6 Rec, 64 yards, TD
    K. Nichol - 2 Rec, 81 yards, 2 TD

Hawkeyes fail to back up trash talk

    #1 Michigan State - 36

    Iowa - 10

Offensively both teams were even but Vandenberg continued to throw interceptions while Cousins threw TD's. At first it looked like Iowa would put on a dominating performance with Coker taking Iowa's first offensive snap to the house but they soon stalled. Michigan State was great on defense once again, getting their first safety of the season while they were at it. Martin once again lead the receiving corps with 2 TD grabs on the day.

Michigan State is now 10-0(6-0) and return to EL to play Indiana next week.

    Stats

    K. Cousins - 13/25, 239 yards, 2 TD
    K. Martin - 4 Rec, 125 yards, 2 TD
    S. Gardiner - 5 Tackles, INT-TD

    Recruiting Update:

:4stars: WR Santonio Smith - 6'1" 161lbs - Largely a possession receiver, he can catch and hold onto the ball. But don't expect explosiveness out of the kid with D Acceleration.

    Not much of a rivalry...

    #1 Michigan State - 43

    Indiana - 24

The 1st string team played great today, holding the Hoosiers to just 3 points. Only when I subbed in the backups did Indiana managed to score any points. Edwin Baker had the game of his career by rushing for over 200 yards while gaining 10 yards per carry. Not too much else to report on this game.

Michigan State is 11-0(7-0) and finish the season down in Evanston

    Stats

    K. Cousins - 12/17, 215 yards, 2 TD, 6 Att, 63 yards, 1 Rushing TD
    E. Baker - 24 Att, 241 yards, TD
    B. Cunningham - 5 REc, 77 yards
    K. Martin - 3 Rec, 86 yards, 2 TD

Recruiting News Following Advance to Week 13:

:4stars: WR Matt Burley - 6'2" 175lbs - I like the look of this kid and am sure he will see the field quite a bit next season. Comes in with A- Speed, B+ Accel, C- Catch, C+ Route Running, and B- Carry. This marks MSU's final recruit of the regular season.

    Spartans finish regular season 12-0.

    #1 Michigan State - 45

    Northwestern - 13

Just another day on the field for Sparty. Cousins would throw 4 touchdowns and no picks. The story of the day was Freshman CB Tony Lippett with 9 Tackles, 1 TFL and a pick 6. If it weren't for Colter throwing 3 costly interceptions, 2 in the redzone, this game would have been much closer. We now move onto the B1G CCG vs (a surprise to me) the #5 Illinois Fighting Illini.

    Stats

    K. Cousins - 13/21, 229 yards, 4 TD
    E. Baker - 17 Att, 129 yards, TD
    B. Cunningham - 3 Rec, 47 yards, 2 TD
    K. Martin - 3 Rec, 54 yards, TD
    K. Nichol - 3 Rec, 83 yards, TD
    T. Lippett - 9 Tackles, TFL, INT-TD, FF, FR
    J. Worthy - 4 Tackles, 3 Sacks

Spartans have to replay, win again.

    #1 Michigan State - 49

    #12 Illinois - 30

Same result second time around except Illinois did put up more of a fight. Cousins started this game off throwing a pick 6 and then another INT in the redzone allowing the Illini to take advantage for a 14-0 lead. Cousins would recover and have a spectacular remainder of the game throwing 4 TD's and nearly 400 yards. Scheelhaase would be on his game as well throwing two TD's while their HB baffled MSU's defense. In the end MSU's overwhelming passing attack won them the game.

Michigan State is back to back B1G Champs and will face Andrew Luck and #2 Stanford in the National Championship.

    Stats

    K. Cousins - 24/39, 398 yards, 4 TD, 2 INT, 5 Att, 9 yards, 1 Rushing TD
    E. Baker - 19 Att, 72 yards, TD
    B. Cunningham - 9 Rec, 160 yards, 2 TD
    K. Martin - 5 Rec, 147 yards, 5 KR, 203 KR yards, 3 Total TD
    J. Worthy - 6 Tackles, 4 TFL, 3 Sacks
    M. Bullough - 7 Tackles, TFL, Sack, INT (on a 2pt conversion so it doesn't count)

Luck and Cousins gave great duel
    #1 Michigan State - 38
    #2 Stanford - 34
    First Quarter
The Cardinal came out of the gate early with a strong drive that saw their FB scamper 2 yards for the opening score. Michigan State would struggle horribly on offense with receivers dropping passes and Baker being slammed in the backfield. It would look like bowl jitters combined with being outmatched was finally catching up the the otherwise hot Spartans. Stanford would settle for three on their next drive to finish off the quarter 10-0.
    Second Quarter
Kirk Cousins would finally find his bearing and lead MSU down field quickly, connecting with Keshawn Marting for a 10 yard score. Andrew Luck matched Cousins' TD pass with one of his own to WR Terrell after a clock consuming drive. Michigan State would do nothing on their next drive, giving it back to Stanford. They would march straight to the redzone only to stall and settle for a FG. Michigan State would match Stanford this time with Conroy knocking through a 30 yarder to end the half Stanford up 20-10.

    Third Quarter
The second half started off with a boom as Martin would take the kick 95 yards to the endzone to pull Sparty within 3 points. But Luck would make sure MSU was always one step behind as he completed pass after pass on his way to a 10 yard TD pass to Whalen. It was Michigan State's turn next for a long nickel and dime drive capped off by a 1 yard TD run from Baker to end the quarter at 27-24 in favor of Stanford.
    Fourth Quarter
Still down by ten Michigan State finally got the vital defensive stop they needed. Cousins would find Martin again, this time from 27 yards out to take their first lead. Heisman winner Anthony Wilkerson would not be denied in regaining the lead as he ran over a defender for 13 yard score. Cousins and the Spartans would go into their 2 minute drill and Bell would find the endzone with 1:30 left on the clock. This was way too much time for Stanford and they wasted no time in driving down inside the ten but Michigan State would put on a great goal line stand as Andrew Luck would record an incompletion on 4th down. Cousins would line up in the Victory Formation and the Spartans would walk off National Champs.
Cousins and Luck were evenly matched today and Sparty came out on top. Michigan State caps off the great season 14-0(9-0) and win their first National Title in over 50 years.
