    2015 Season

The Michigan Wolverines are coming off a very successful season in 2014, adding a 4th straight B1G Championship, and a BCS Orange Bowl Victory. They lost two big names in the offense in QB Devin Gardner (who really underachieved as a Wolverine overall) and Justice Hayes (Only saw playing time for one season). Receivers, everyone returns except Jerald Robinson who had under 300 yards receiving on the year, even as the Number 2 WR in the offense. The entire receiving core this year is filled with Underclassmen, but these underclassmen are mostly 5 Star WR's/ATH coming out of high school and have really developed. The defense pretty much returns everyone other than a first year starting MLB Lamar Davis, who had a great year, but he was backed up by two 4 star MLBs, (#1 and #5 in their recruiting classes) and Michigan has already signed another MLB this season in the #6 rated MLB in this years class. They also lost DT Robert Ash, who has already been replaced. To show you how loaded they are at DT, the #1 and #3 DT's in this past class that the Wolverines signed will not get any playing time this season, and possibly next season with no Seniors at that position. The Secondary is basically all returning, although they do lose SS Marvin Robinson and FS Furman to graduation. Fortunately for the Wolverines, they had recruited enough Cornerbacks in the past for them to be able to play two CB's at FS and SS. A lot of people have said that the Wolverines lost too much to compete this year, but when you take a closer look at the team, you'll see that the Wolverines don't rebuild, they reload.

QB- The QB spot was said to be a battle, even going into the week 1 bye, but it looks like their is a winner. Joe Larsen, True Freshman, is ready for the big stage, as his accuracy has been too good to sit on the bench (96 THA) and he still has the speed of a normal Michigan QB (85 speed, 88 ACC). If he struggles, the Redshirt Sophmore Anthony Garcia will get his turn, but the way Larsen has looked in practice, I wouldn't look for him to struggle too much when he gets on the field in week 2 against Florida.

HB- David Harrison, former 5 star recruit, started his Freshman season on campus and rushed for over 1000 yards in his first season. But at the end of that season, he was benched for the Bowl game for undisclosed reasons, and Fitzgerald Toussaint, then Justice Hayes, were the starting backs for the Wolverines. Most thought Harrison would transfer, but he showed people that he had no problem waiting his turn and it's finally come. He has tremendous speed (97 speed) and can break tackles (85 Break Tackle). He should have no problem picking up where Justice Hayes left off last season. The Wolverines have to hope that this Junior won't head to the draft after this season as they have yet to pick up a quality replacement. They are currently targeting two running back in the top 100 that could start next season if Harrison turns pro.

WR- The Wide Receiver position is easily the deepest position for this team. The best way to describe this group is " Lighting Quick". The #1 and #2 WR's, Drew Johnson and Corey Davis, are 6'4 and 6'3 that are too fast for most corners to keep up with (95 and 94 speed). Then you look at Matt Herron in the slot who might be the fastest guy on the team. (96 speed) Sean McDougal rounds out the core (95 speed) and is tough to stop as well. All 4 of these guys caught several passes last year, McDougal playing the least role, and all 4 this year are underclassmen. 2 Juniors and 2 Sophmores. These guys could be the reason that Larsen ends up breaking some records during his stay in Michigan.

Offensive Line- The Offensive line has 1 Senior on it, and that would be their center, but the backup is almost as good as he is. But for this year, the starting Center will be the leader on the offensive line. This group isn't particularly as talented as the past lines Michigan has had,(80.4 overall avg) but they're above average and will be able to give Larsen time in the pocket to make some plays. The good thing is this is a very young group and they'll only improve as the year goes on.

Defensive line- Could possibly be the best defensive line the Wolverines have had. Sophmore Chris Alvarez has really improved over the summer and is the starting DT, while Junior Bryan Garcia will be beside him starting also in this 4-3 set. Chris can get around you, or through you with his power and finesse moves. (89 and 87) Bryan can only do one thing really and that's go through you (85 power move). On the defensive end side, you have 1 Pre Season All American from last year, and one that made the All American Team. Brennan Beyer and Willie Shultz. Beyer is quick (85 speed, 96 acc) and can put a move on you and get to the QB with ease. Willie is slower than Beyer, but is very powerful and can get through you for a sack with ease. (92 power move) Both are looking to have huge seasons for the Wolverines, and it's scary to think what if Willie comes back for his Senior year. Michigan picked up the #1 DE last season, and already picked up the #2 DE in this years class, so regardless of his decision, the Wolverines will still be ready on the defensive line.

LBs- The linebackers are a little above average (82.3 avg ovr.) but these guys can get the job done. Losing Lamar Davis was a big hit, and an unexpected hit, but it just meant some of these younger guys would get a chance to play sooner. Redshirt Freshman Jonathan Bell will be the starting MLB and will show why he was the #1 MLB a few years ago. He committed and people wondered why with Lamar being so talented and only a year ahead of him, but it seems like he made the right decision. If Bell is sent on blitzes, he can get through because he's great at getting off blocks. (89 block shed) He's also very quick for a linebacker. (90 acc) The outside linebacker positions are being played by 2 seniors, Antonio Poole and Frank Clark. Frank is very fast (87 speed, 94 acc) and can make plays in a zone, and stick with a WR in man coverage. Antonio is more of an all around player, that tackles well (87 tackle) and gets off the blocks even better (89 block shed)

Secondary- The Wolverines return ever Cornerback on their roster. The only place they lost something was at the Safety position, but at SS, you will see Freshman CB Ali Parker who is fast and can flat out cover. (92 speed,93 acc, 89 man, 84 zone) Then at FS, you will see the Junior College transfer Sophmore than many teams missed out on, Nick Callahan. At 6'3, 190, this kid is just as fast, if not faster, than most wr's he'll be asked to play against (94 speed, 96 acc) and plays great zone (92 zone coverage). The Wolverines knew they got a steal when they signed him and it's almost certain that he won't disappoint them this year. At the two starting CBs, you have 2 SRs. Blake Countess, and Delonte Howell. These guys are flat out scary. Blake is a shutdown corner who can press (99 press), play man, (97 man coverage) or zone (96 zone). No matter what he's in, he will make sure you don't catch the ball. They don't get much better than him. On the other side, Howell will shut you down, much of the same way Blake would. He can press almost as good (98 press), play man about the same (98 man), and is a great zone defender as well (91 zone). Anything you try to do against these guys, it's literally covered.

The consensus was the Michigan had lost too much to compete this year. If you look at the lineup, the consensus is wrong. Michigan will put out a lineup full of youth, but these guys aren't just young, they're pretty damn good as well. The defense will play a big role until Larsen comes along and gets comfortable with the offense, but when Larsen starts hitting on all cylinders, teams will be in a lot of trouble.
