Michigan escapes Uconn as Forcier delivers in the 2nd half

(AP) East Hartford, CT - Michigan headed into week 1 confident as they looked to take on the Uconn Huskies. Michigan expected a cakewalk and nearly got beat. Denard Robinson had no rhythym at all early as he had completed just 3/13 passes including an INT. Michigan found themselves out of sync and down 16-0 at halftime. Coach pepper decided he had seen enough of Robinson and needed a spark from someone, anyone, so in comes Tate Forcier. Forcier led the Wolverines to their first TD on an 11 yard pass to Hemingway to get them back in the game. Forcier would go to the sideline after a minor injury and Robinson would throw his 1st TD of the game to freshamn RB Toussaint on an 18 yard strike. Michigan then finally got a turnover as Brandon Herron would strip WR Malik Generett to get the ball back.

Forcier came back in the game still trailing Uconn 16-14 driving inside the Uconn 15 yard line midway through the 4th. On 3rd and goal from the 8 Forcier found Toussaint wide open in the flat for a TD to finally take the lead 21-16. Uconn's last chance ended as Zach Frazer was picked off by Senior Captain Troy Woolfolk.

    Key Stats:

    QB Tate Forcier 14/21 171 yards 2 TD's 0 Ints
MLB Obi Ezeh 8 tackles 4 TFL

FIGHT TO THE FINISH AT SOUTH BEND AS RIVALS GO TO TRIPLE OT

Michigan enjoyed a 27-10 halftime lead and appeared to be well on their way to their 2nd win of the season. Notre Dame had other ideas as they outscored the Wolverines 24-0 to enjoy a 34-27 lead with just :33 left. Robinson after being benched for the 2nd straight game due to his early ineffectiveness would have to come back to the game due to Forcier being injured. With just :09 left Robinson would hit Hemingway as he split the Irish defenders for a 36 yard TD pass to force OT. It appeared Notre Dame had the game won again where Michigan faced a 4th and 15 and out of FG range but Robinson once again came through in the clutch on a 30 yard strike to Kyle Grady. It finally came down to a 3rd OT where the Michigan defense finally got a stop and forced an Notre Dame FG. Michigan would end the game on a 2 yard run by Toussaint to finally win in 3 OT 54-51.

    Key stats:

    QB Forcier 19/39 406 yards 4 TD's 0 INT's
    QB Robinson 6/20 135 yards 2 TD's (both in OT) 8 rushes 26 yards 1 TD
    WR Grady 11 rec 260 yards 2 TD's
