Miss St. starts the year off the right way with a 49-28 victory. Though the offensive started off slow and and USM was first too score, Miss. St put it all together after a kickoff return for a TD. That was followed by a interception return for 6. After this, Miss St's offense started clicking. Both QB's , Russel and Relf got to show what they could do. Both made a mistake on their first chance to see the field but overall they both made an argument as to why they should be the starter. After the game coach Speck would not name a starter for the next game but said he is leaning towards freshman Tyler Russel because of his pure passing ablity. He did mention however, that Chris Relf's abitly to make plays with is feet gives him a chance as well.
All 3 running backs also made some noise, with the leader seeming to be Vick Ballard, his speed and ability to break a long run shows why he should probably be the feature back. Today's starting RB, Robert Elliot did not look as good and Freshman Ladaruius Perkins played well as he got the majority of second half carries. The defensive played solid at times, managing 3 picks, 2 coming from sophmore corner Corey Broomfield.

Overall all this game seemed to be pretty easy for the Bulldogs and it really gave their coach a chance to look into some position battles. It also gave him a chanceto play some under classman to see what he needs next year to help the team improve. Next week Miss St. looks to improve as they open up the SEC vs Auburn.
