Starkville, MS - The Bulldogs will welcome in the unbeaten and number 2 ranked Crimson Tide from Tuscaloosa this afternoon at 2:30 on CBS in what has the makings to be a classic SEC west battle that has huge implications on the division race. The Tide come in unbeaten in conference play, while the Bulldogs have dropped one game to South Carolina early in the season. They are tied with the University of Mississippi for second in the west heading into this game. The scenarios are interesting, if Alabama wins this game, which many expect to happen, they will clearly be in the drivers seat to win the west. If Mississippi State wins the game, then things get could get interesting. We will save that discussion for next week however, as many people "experts" believe Ole Miss will falter at least once more, and maybe twice or three times more in their final four game SEC gauntlet which includes a trip to Auburn this week and Starkville to end the season in the Egg Bowl, those two games sandwich games against Georgia and LSU. With that remaining schedule, I think the west race is between two teams, The Bulldogs and the Tide, and those two teams play this week in a game of historic proportions for the Mississippi State program, as Coach Hickerson tries to win the schools second ever SEC crown, and would be first since 1941. This can not be done however, without getting to Atlanta first, "The past couple of years the SEC has went through Tuscaloosa, well this year it goes through Starkville, but you still gotta beat those guys from Tuscaloosa, Coach Saban has built a tremendous program over there, but it is our guys goal to knock them down a rung on the ladder and get to Atlanta, then we will see what happens from there," said Hickerson.
