...behind a record setting performance by SR QB Blaine Gabbert. Gabbert was 29/37 for 549 yards, 5TDs and 1 INT. He also rushed a TD in from the 1yd line. He was aided by lots of big plays from his receivers who got about 250YAC breaking numerous tackles.

Missouri had poor production from the TB position all day as their starter RB Moore only managed 2.9ypc and had 2 fumbles.

The 1st and 2nd string tailbacks also got bumps and bruises which made them sit out the remainder of the game. Luckily they were not serious injuries.

    Week 2 was a bye.

    Week 3:

    TIGER FIGHT!
    #24 Mizzou
    @
    LSU

Mizzou would take control of the game early, going up 24-7 by halftime helped by two (1FR, 1INT) timely turnovers. By the end of the 3rd quarter the fans seemed to have lost hope, the stadium felt like a library. The score was 31-14.

Then LSU mounted a fierce comeback, to which Mizzou had no answer. After scoring the 3rd TD of the quarter, the game was 38-35 with 1:20 left. LSU had a chance for an onside kick, but it was recovered by Mizzou to seal the deal.

    Mizzou 38
    LSU 35

    Both QBs had outstanding games:
QB Gabbert was 24/30 for 297yds, 3TD and no INTs
    QB Jefferson was 26/34 for 348yds, 2TD and 1INT

    Week 4:

    Missouri tops Cinci 49-42

Cinci QB Anderson was struggling... then he got hit while throwing and ended up dislocating his elbow. At that point Mizzou was up 28-7 and easily in control. Collaros would turn them around and make a contest of the game.

In the end Mizzou hanged on. Collaros had a great day in a losing effort, going 18 of 20 for 239yds and 4TDs!

The player of the game was star wideout for Mizzou Jackson. Cinci had no answer for him as he caught 14 passes for 165 yards and 5TDs!

    In the spotlight
The Mizzou defense is starting to raise some eyebrows. Can they stop anyone? Through three games they have given up 35, 35 and 42 points.

    #19 Mizzouri dominates Kansas 55-28 : Improves to 4-0

The game was characterized by explosive plays for both teams. A total of 10 plays went 50 or more yards and 5 of them went for TDs.

The two most explosive players for Mizzou were:
    1 - WR Kemp with 4 receptions for 158yds and 1TD
    2 - RB Moore with 29 carries for 215 yds (7.4ypc) and 2TD

The defense, with the exception of 3 big plays that went for TDs (75yd pass, 66yd pass, 66yd pass) was finally a bright spot. The only other score was in the 4th Q vs the 2nd team.

Coach has decided to make a change in the depth chart because he felt his safeties were out of position too often.

    #16 Mizzouri gets embarrassed by #3 Nebraska 44-7 : drops to 4-1

Turning the ball over 5 times while forcing no turnovers yields such results.

When coach was asked after the game he simply said: "back to square one on offense, we got the playmakers, just didn't make any plays. On defense its time to hit the recruiting trail as we are trailing bigtime programs in talent."

    Missouri steals one from OU
    38-35

    It came down to a few big plays down the stretch;

Mizzou had the ball with about ~2 mins left, leading 38-28. On the first play from scrimmage:

Then OU would not recover the onside kick, but would get the ball back down 38-35 and a chance to win it. Mizzou sealed the deal with an interception.

#10 Mizzou escapes an upset at KSU

    Scoring Summary
    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Column 5 Column 6
    - 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Total
    MIZ 21 7 0 22 50
    KSU 7 14 16 7 44

After getting off to a quick start, Mizzou hit a funk. KSU had a great 2nd and third quarter. At the end of 3Qs it was KSU 37, MIZ 28.

Things were looking bleak when with 2:15 left in the fourth quarter KSU made it a 44-36 game on a 75yd TD bomb.

Mizzou ran a 1 minute drill (while preserving all timeouts-- that was key) to pull to within 2 points with 1:12 left. The onside kick was unsuccessful.

Mizzou proceeded to stop KSU on all 4 downs (they went for it on 4th and got sacked bigtime). Getting the ball at midfield with about 1 minute left and no timeouts.

The Tigers found the endzone with 7ticks left on the clock and escaped 50-44.

    #10 Mizzou wins the cotton!

    Scoring Summary
    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Column 5 Column 6
    - 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Total
    LSU 14 0 0 14 28
    MIZ 0 21 7 7 35

LSU got off to a scorching start, scoring with a familiar combination:
Jefferson to Tolliver for 59yds... and a couple minutes later
    Jefferson to Tolliver for 85yds...

Mizzou was forced to change their defensive playcalling to provide some help over the top against Tolliver... and it payed off. LSU was held scoreless until the late 4th quarter when they scored 2 late TDs.

Gabbert also ran the ball 5 times for 36yds and 1 TD.

LSU QB Jefferson was also spectacular, going 19 of 24 for 352yds and 4TD.

The Cotton Bowl victory gives Mizzou coach Omnibird a wildly succesful 12-1 season in his first season as head coach.

The only blemish came against a very talented Nebraska team that won a BCS bowl and ranks #5 in the nation before the final rankings are released.
