No poppin Champagne in Champaign for Mizzou

The Missouri Tigers came into this season opening game against rival Illinois both very excited for the dawn of a new season but also unsure of what kind of team they would be. The young Tigers squad played tough but costly turnovers and mental mistakes cost UM a chance at pulling off the upset.

Coming into the season the biggest question mark surrounding this team is their defense, and they showed exactly why everyone doubts them. The Illini scored 49 seconds into the game to go up 7-0. That would be all the scoring for the first quarter. Mizzou struck first in the 2nd off a Derrick Washington TD rush. The Illini countered with a 46 yard FG, and on the ensuing kick-off Johnie Fields took it 94 yards to the house to put the Tigers on top 17-14. The two schools continued to go back n forth, in typical Mizzou-Illini fashion. At the half it was all nodded up at 24.

The Tigers got the ball to start the second half but would not have it for long. A pick 6 by ILL LB Martez Wilson put the Illini on top and they would not look bad. The Tigers couldn't muster anything on offense as Blaine Gabbert threw 5 picks. The Illini with relative ease cruised to a 44-31 victory.

It was a dis-heartening performance by the junior QB who was being counted on for big things. The Tigers made some big plays and a lot of the young guys on this team steppe dup and did their part, but it was all for not as the wheels came off for Blaine Gabbert. The Tigers will now hit the practice field with a QB controversy since QB Blaine Dalton stepped in in the 4th and orchestrated a TD drive. The Tigers showed they will not just rol over tho and that they will be a competitive team this season. Up next they take on FCS Midwest.

    Key Players

    ILL QB E.McGee: 20-24 296 yds 4 TD

    Tigers eat FCS teams Alive

After the dissapointing season opening loss to Illinois the Tigers played two in a row against FCS opponents. These were basically practice games, Coach Hood tinkered with the line-up and got some things sorted out. The Tigers made a switch at QB, switching from 6'5' junior Blaine Gabbert to the more agile redshirt freshmen Blaine Dalton. Dalton played great in both games as he led the way for two very easy Mizzou victories. The Tigers are a very young squad and the a lot the back-up youngsters gained valuable experience in these 2 weeks that should accelerate their progression.

Mizzou finally took on a D-1 opponent but unfortunately the game froze in the first half and had to be simmed. Mizzou lost in the sim 38-16 to Colorado but at least made it thru injury-free.

Coach shadow takes over Mizzou after hood had some problems and had to step away. I'm devoted to taking Mizzou to big 12 greatness and next year... national prominence. That first step was taken today as Mizzou blasted Kansas State 70-17 at home. This game with the backups inserted in the second half is meant to prove that Mizzou will be a force.

Our starting HB unfortunately was injured and is out for the season. I have high hopes the replacement will step in nicely.

Mizzou took on Oklahoma in a game where the CPU tried it's hardest to cheat its way to a win. 2 fumbles in the first quarter for Mizzou inside the 5 were driven back for OU td's. Mizzou down 4 on the last drive of the game was down 24-20 when on 4th down Our QB threw a 40 yard completed bomb to the 10 yard line. Then with 13 seconds to go he bootlegs and throws a strike to the TE in the endzone to win it. 27-24 Mizzou wins it in a close one this week. Good to see the CPU with some life.
