The Maneater is the actuall newspaper at Mizzou.

    Pre-season writeup:

    Quarterback:
The Missouri Tigers have 2 sophomores, and 1 senior. So. James Franklin will be leading the team this year. Franklin is a tall and strong quarterback who has yet to prove himself to the football world. If Franklin can't step up to the pressure, So. Ashton Glaser may be called up.

    Half Back:
RS Senior DeVion Moore will lead the tigers at HB this year. The tigers are deep at HB, but not with talent, with relative mediocrity. So. Henry Josey or Ju. Kendial Lawrence could take over the reigns.

    Full Back:
Senior Beau Brinkley is the only FB for Mizzou. His touches will be limited and usually only to surprise the D in short yardage situations.

    Wide Receiver:
Junior TJ Moe is going to the #1 target for Franlkin this year. Moe had a spectacular sophomore year and hopes to continue his performance this year. His goal is to follow in the footsteps of former Mizzou Tigers' Denario Alexander and Jeremy Maclin. Senior Jerrell Jackson, Brandon Gerau and Wes Kemp will all be solid targets since none is better than any other. The Tigers will have many targets the entire year that can do damage.

    Tight End:
Senior Michael Egnew is going to be the start TE this year. At 6'6" and 245 lbs he is a big target and will also provide solid blocking.

    Offensive Line:
Mizzou has a solid offensive line, but could be weak in certain areas.

    Defensive Line:
Mizzou does not have the greatest defensive line, in the past they have had some great players, but with the loss of Aldon Smith to the NFL they will have to be better than expected.

    Linebackers:
Linebackers are slightly better than the defensive line, but not by much. The Tigers Defensive could be what hurts them this year, which is a surprise as last year they were one of the top defenses in the Big 12 and the nation.

    Cornerbacks:
The only really good cornerback is RS Junior Kip Edwards. They rest of the Cornerbacks are mediocre. Continuing the bad preseason defensive outlook.

    Safeties:
Senior Kenji Jackson will be a great SS this year.

    Kicker:
Mizzou has a strong kicker in RS Senior Grant Ressel. He could be very important if Mizzou can't score touchdowns and has to settle for field goals.

    Punter:
Not a hugely important position, but RS Junior Trey Barrow will be in control of pinning the other team deep this season.

    Report:
On the second drive of the game starting QB James Franklin suffered a minor concussion. He is expected to return next game, but missed the rest of this game. Backup Jimmy Costello came into the game unprepared. When asked about the decision he said, "I thought Ashton (Glaser) would get the call. He has been battling it out for the starting position with James (Franklin) all preseason. But coach said, 'get in.'" When Coach Zurry was asked about it he said, "Actually Jimmy was just closer to me. I thought it was Ashton and told him to get in. When I saw who was running onto the field there was no turning back. Jimmy played great though. His numbers may not reflect his game. But he was huge today." Costello finished the day 11-18 for 179 Yds, 1 TD, and 1 INT. In his two drives, Franlkin was 4-6 for 58 Yds.
With the concern at Quarterback, HB DeVion Moore was called on a lot today. He Had 32 carries for 119 Yds and 4 TD. When asked about his performance he said, "I didn't need a lot of Yds. My longest was only 9 Yds. But I got about 4 Yds on every single run. That's what let to short yardage touchdowns."
Each receiver got even touches today as well. Michael Egnew was the favorite with 5 catches for 77 Yds. TJ Moe and W. Kemp each had 3 catches for 49 Yds, and 53 Yds respectively. Henry Josey had the longest play of the game with only 1 catch for 53 Yds.
Finally, the defense had a relatively good day, allowing only 260 Yds total offense. They had one interception in the end zone. The defense also held Miami to 3-9 on third down.

Next week: Mizzou will face a tough test at ranked Arizona State

    Review:
In a game where Mizzou was probably the better team, Arizona State won 45-28 due to many turnovers by the Tigers. Mizzou had 642 total yards to Arizona State's 382. Mizzou had 304 pass Yds and 128 rush Yds. However, the story of the day was turnovers. SO QB James Franklin only threw 4 incomplete passes; unfortunately 2 were INTs and one pick 6. On top of this he fumbled the ball 3 times, one for a TD. He had 183 yards and no TDs. Mizzou had one more fumble on the day to finish with 6. If there was no turnovers this game could have been very different since many were close to the end zone.

Arizona State's QB Brock Osweller had a productive day with 18-31 for 253 Yds and 3 TDs. This was due to a strong O-line. Mizzou was only able to get 2 sacks on the day and only 1 pressure.

During the 1st quarter DeVion Moore strained a muscle and was not able to play the rest of the game. Henry Josey had a productive day with 3 short yard TDs and 50 Yds. QB Cameron Marshall took over for James Franklin after his third fumble. Marshall was able to 121 Yds and 1 TD in only 3 min of play. Coach Zurry commented, "We can't have fumbles from our QB, he is usually the last person back and if the ball is picked up that will be 6 pts every time. If Franlkin continues to fumble we may give Costello the nod."

Mizzou hopes to turn it back around next week vs. Kent State.

    Kent State 0 - 20 Mizzou

    Scoring Summary:
    First Quarter:
0:24 TD Miz: DeVion Moore, 8 Yd pass from Jimmy Costello

    Second Quarter:
3:22 FG Miz: Grant Ressel, 19 Yd FG

    Fourth Quarter:
4:03 TD Miz: TJ Moe, 9 Yd pass from James Franklin
0:00 FG Miz: Grant Ressel, 28 Yd FG

    Review:
Mizzou dominated today only allowing 152 total yards offense, while racking up 392 Yds themselves. James Franklin again got hurt, which gave Jimmy Costello his third appearance where on his second play and his only play of the game he threw an 8 Yd pass to DeVion Moore. Later in the game Franklin finally got his first passing TD of the season. DeVion Moore also ran for 115 Yds. The game ended low scoring, but was a step in the right direction for Mizzou.

Next week Mizzou has a big test in their first conference game away at current #2 Oklahoma

Just for future reference, I'd prefer it if people didn't kick field goals at the end of regulation just to score extra points when they clearly have a victory in hand. Not calling you out, I've seen others do it too.

Agreed. I used to do this, but never in the real dynasty. I understand that sometimes it just happens. Don't want to get that 0-1 on 4th down, so you kick a field goal with 3 seconds remaining, and time expires as it's in the air. I've done that one before. But it's a rarity for that to come up.

Sorry I meant to address this but forgot. I had missed a few really easy field goals earlier in the game and the opportunity allowed me to practice. Also it was fourth down clocked stopped with 2 seconds. Not much I could do.

    Review:
This was such a great game. Great offense with lots of good plays, but also defense with many turnovers. Oklahoma had 639 Yds and Missouri had 582 Yds. Missouri had long drawn out drives while Oklahoma had lots of short big played drives. James Franklin had his first real performance of the year. He never got hurt and played well. He passed for 247 Yds and 2 TDs. He did have 3 INTs, but he had 63 Yds rushing. DeVion Moore had terrific day. He could not be stopped going for 148 Yds and 3 TDs. There was lots of big plays and Missouri was able to wear down Oklahoma for this big win to go to 3-1.

Next week Missouri plays at Kansas State

0:08 TD Miz: Henry Josey, 1 Yd rush

    Review:
James Franklin threw for 221 Yd, 1 TD and 3 INTs. He had some big plays though souch as his 4 Yd rush TD and he completed many third down conversions. Franklin had the most rush Yds with 94 Yds and DeVion Moore had 92 Yds. The strangest play of the day occurred after Kansas State's third TD. Mizzou blocked the kick, but then either the kicker or the QB holder picked the ball up and ran for 2 pts. Mizzou had one big decision late in the day that paid off for them. Down by 2 with 2:00 minutes left they had a 4th and 1 on the 5 Yd line. They opted to go for it and converted the fourth down on a James Franklin QB sneak. They proceeded to score took the lead. Kansas State quickly scored which left Mizzou with the ball with 1:30. They drove the ball up the field and eventually scored with 8 seconds left.

#17 Mizzou beats 4-1 Iowa State big in Columbia, MO

    Iowa State 17 - 56 Mizzou

Mizzou scored 49 of their 56 points in the second and third quarter. The other 7 points came in the first quarter. Mizzou tore up Iowa State's rush defense rushing for 443 yards on 44 attempts and 8 TDs. They averaged over 11 Yds per carry! They only passed the ball 15 times today. Turnovers were also a big part of this game as Iowa State fumbled twice and threw 2 INTs. DeVion Moore had an incredible game rushing for 199 Yds and 3 TDs. James Franklin also had 125 Yds and 3 TDs. Moore got hurt in the third quarter and was out for the rest of the game, but not a play later Henry Josey ran for a 39 Yd TD. 4th string G. White also had 39 Yds and 1 TD on 4 carries.

Mizzou's biggest test of the season comes next week versus #3 Undefeated Oklahoma State at Home.

    Mizzou gets destroyed 52-26.

Oklahoma State's QB had 498 yds passing and 3 INTs. How does this happen? 14 of Mizzou's points were pick 6's. The shortest for about 95 Yds and the largest for 102 Yds. Mizzou asked the Maneater to comment no more than this.

#22 Mizzou shows that last week was not how the team is expected to play the entire season. They beat #11 Texas A&M, on an away game, 45-7.

Texas A&M was shut down on offense and was demolished on defense. Their only 7 points came in the fourth quarter against Mizzou's second team defense.

It was another great day for DeVion Moore, who ran for 175 Yds and 2 TDs.
James Franklin threw for 109 Yds and 2 TDs and 89 rush Yds as well.
The most interesting stat of the day is 0. 0 turnovers for Texas A&M, but no points. Lots of punts.
Now #15 Mizzou plans to take the game against Baylor this week to improve to 7-2.

#25 Mizzou beats Texas Tech 28-17 to advance to 8-3.

Mizzou is having a good season with an 8-3 record. If they can win their last regular season game and their bowl game they can finish in the double digit win column.
James Franklin was player of the game with 17-24 for 271 Yds and 2 pass TDs. He only had 1 INT. He also had one rush TD.
DeVion Moore continues to have a strong season, going for 128 Yds and 1 TD in this game.
Next week Mizzou plays rival Kansas.

Mizzou wins 59-41 versus rival Kansas in this game of massive scoring display

DeVion Moore showed why he could be a Heisman candidate with 205 Yds rushing and 105 Yds Rec for 2 TDs. 3 Kickoff returns in this game by the two teams, one called back. Mizzou didn't score less than 14 points in any quarter. Payback for last year Kansas.
