At the midway point of the 2018 season the Tigers are currently .500 at 41-41. This season has been a bit of a roller coaster to begin things. A team that has enjoyed a comfortable 4-7 game lead in the division has since seen this llead come to screeching halt with the Twins going 10-0 in their last 10 games.

    Monthly Records thus Far:
    April: 15-11
    May: 15-14
    June: 11-16
    Total: 41-41

Most of this can be attributed to the nasty injury bug that has bitten the Tigers.

Currently, the Tigers have the following starters on the DL:
SS Devan Marrero - Out 3/4 months (6/18 AL Player of the Week & current back 2 back AL SS golden glove winner)
CF KK Ashley - Out 2/3 months (was selected to previous 3 all-star games until this year due to injury)
SP Lance McQueen - Out 5/6 Months (Young SP with 3* potential. Was #4 in rotation when injured)
SP AJ Vulcan - Out 3 months (4* pitcher that only started 8 games prior to injury this season. Was top rotation pitcher as well)
RF Arthur Halladay - Out 3 months (Left handed big bat. 10 RBI in 10 hits in 20 games before injured)

    Top Batting Prospect:
RF Brendan Hanson - Currently on fire, literally, on the ML roster. Has 49 AB in 22 games and batting .408 avg. With a .431 OBP and 9.0 VOSP looking for Hanson to remain a big league player at the ripe old age of 20.

    Top Pitching Prospect:
SP Bobby Robbins - Just drafted as the 55th pick overall. He ranks #1 pitching prospect with no action under his belt yet. He gets the nod leading the AA Erie SeaWolves rotation.

    43-45, .489, 1 GB - 2nd

The tigers took one of three in both their series this past sim against the Texas Rangers and the Boston Red Sox. Combining for a 2-4 record combined. Fortunately for the club, we did not lose any ground on the division leading Twins, who still are ahead by 1 game.

Since we have two emerging Catchers right now, one on the ML roster and the other leading the AAA squad, we have placed current starter on the trade block:
    C Vladimor Banovic (1* / 1*)
Starting C that doesn't strike out. I have two high prospects he's in the way off http://traditionsportsonline.com/tso-ootp/reports/html/players/player_35489.html

In recent news, SS Ruben Maldonado has been brought up from the AAA squad to play platoon in the middle of the infield. We will see how he responds at the ML level. The Tigers are still ravished by injuries and are dealing with a minor league system that has a few studs on the AAA squad that is dominating that level, beyond that the cupboard is bare.

Management in Motown is scratching their heads about how to turn the season around. With what is considered a very good team, the team just isn't scoring enough runs currently.

    HOT Pitchers
SP AJ Vulcan - 0.89 ERA in last 4 games started (2-0) 22 IP, 23K

    COLD Pitchers
    SP Justin Verlander - 10.2 ERA in last 3 GS (0-3) 15 IP, 14K

    50-48, .510, 1 GB - 2nd

    7-3 record last sim

The Tigers completed 2 series last sim and started a third. The highlight of this previous sim was the sweep against NL Colorado Rockies HAL9100. The tigers managed to out-score the Rockies 19-9. Quite an accomplishment considering these Tigers pitchers don't bat often. The Tigers also split a 4 game set against the Houston Astros.

    Roster Updates

    - Virgil "The Cooler King" Hilts (4.5*) went down with an injury for 6 weeks. Another OF hurt for Detroit - it's officially an epidemic!
    - Tigers acquire 1B Willard Evans from Oakland in exchange for AAA SP Angus McFayden. Evans will start at #2 at 1B on ML roster
    - SS Ruben Maldonado who was recently called up is batting .227, 5 RBI, 3K in 22 AB

    Disabled List Update:
SS Devan Marrero (4.5*) - Out 3/4 months (6/18 AL Player of the Week & current back 2 back AL SS golden glove winner)
CF KK Ashley (3.5*) - Out 8-9 weeks (was selected to previous 3 all-star games until this year due to injury)
SP Lance McQueen (2.5*) - Out 5 Months (Young SP with 3* potential. Was #4 in rotation when injured)
SP AJ Vulcan (4*) - Out 2 months (4* pitcher that only started 8 games prior to injury this season. Was top rotation pitcher as well)
RF Arthur Halladay (1*) - Out 2 months (Left handed big bat. 10 RBI in 10 hits in 20 games before injured)
LF Virgil Hilts (4.5*) - out 5/6 weeks (6th RBI on team, 11.3 VORP)

    COLD Hitters
2B Niel Walker - .125 BA w/13K's in last 10 games (He's still on the trading block folks)

    Monthly Records thus Far:

    62-55, .550, 1st

    7-2 record last sim

The Tigers finsihed up thier series hosting Oakland. The Tigers took the series 2-1 with FA pick-up Bellatti pitching a solid outing with 7.2 IP and only 2 ER. For some reason, the Chicago White Sox soxandgators released him earlier this year. Since joining the Tigers Belllati has started 2 games, winning both games while posting a 2.70 era. The Tigers also hosted the 1st place Seattle Dylema team that seems to very confident in their pitching staff. The Tigers lit up both their top aces Hernandez and Walker. Tiger took 3/4 at home, Safeco Field is NOT Comerica. The Tigers also welcomed in a 3rd west coast team, this time being NL opponent LA Dodgers sawemoff. The hot bats of the Tigers are still going strong and we have taken the first 2, of a three game series with a runs advantage in the first two game of 17-4.

    Roster Updates

    - With the injury to "The Cooler King" Hilts, Tigers brought up Hilton Richardson to help in the outfield. Last sim Richardson batted .323 in 31 plate appearances.
    - SS Ruben Maldonado who called up last month to fill gaps due to injury is batting .361, 9 RBI, 3K in 36 AB

    Disabled List Update:
SS Devan Marrero (4.5*) - Out 7 weeks (6/18 AL Player of the Week & current back 2 back AL SS golden glove winner)
CF KK Ashley (3.5*) - Out 5-6 weeks (was selected to previous 3 all-star games until this year due to injury)
SP Lance McQueen (2.5*) - Out 4 Months (Young SP with 3* potential. Was #4 in rotation when injured)
SP AJ Vulcan (4*) - Out 6 weeks (4* pitcher that only started 8 games prior to injury this season. Was top rotation pitcher as well)
RF Arthur Halladay (1*) - Out 6 weeks (Left handed big bat. 10 RBI in 10 hits in 20 games before injured)
LF Virgil Hilts (4.5*) - out 2-3 weeks (6th RBI on team, 11.3 VORP)

^^ The time out for a lot of these guys are getting small now. Hilts, Vulcan and Marrero should be able to contribute just prior to the playoffs. If the Tigers can win the division, they will be a tough out.

    HOT Batters
C Ron Schloss - .409, 2 HR, 12 RBI in last 22 AB (starting season #4 prospect overall)

Tiger bats are currently first in the AL in batting average and hits, while being 2nd in On-base percentage.

Tigers keep Winning - I'll keep writing.....

    August 21, 2018
    69-57, .548, 1st

    7-2 record last sim (AGAIN)

So, here we go folks. Closing in on the end of the season and even though these team has been ravaged by the injury bug we are currently in 1st place in the AL Central, up by 3.5 games. This upcoming sim contains a 3 game series that will most likely decide the AL Central. With the Tigers on a torrid pace, the Twins have struggled to to keep up after holding a 1 game lead 2 sims ago. That's amazing considering these Tigers are 14-4 in their last 18 games.

Detroit Tigers are currently #8 in the Power Rankings

    Player Acknowledgement
SS Ruben Maldonado - Called up recently to help out the roster due to injuries is listed as HOT HITTER last sim. His numbers last sim: .450/.476/.700, 6 RBI
C Ron Schloss - Was listed as a HOT HITTER last sim (see above). This sim he simply went out and posted: .348/.385/.652 6 RBI and 2 HR  (starting season #4 prospect overall)
    3B Cory Seager (2018 All-Star) - Last sim: .333/.385./.611, 7 RBI, 3 HR

    Disabled List Update:
SS Devan Marrero (4.5*) - Out 6 weeks (6/18 AL Player of the Week & current back 2 back AL SS golden glove winner)
CF KK Ashley (3.5*) - Out 4 weeks (was selected to previous 3 all-star games until this year due to injury)
SP Lance McQueen (2.5*) - Out 4 Months (Young SP with 3* potential. Was #4 in rotation when injured)
SP AJ Vulcan (4*) - Out 5 weeks (4* pitcher that only started 8 games prior to injury this season. Was top rotation pitcher as well)
RF Arthur Halladay (1*) - Out 6 weeks (Left handed big bat. 10 RBI in 10 hits in 20 games before injured)
LF Virgil Hilts (4.5*) - out 1 weeks (6th RBI on team, 11.3 VORP)

This has been the thorn in the Tigers side all season. Great news, All-Star stud LF Hilts, "The Cooler King", will be rejoining the team for the playoffs. He will start and he will continue to hit triples at Comerica. Even though he has only appeared in 59 games this season he is still 3rd in AL in triples with 6. The AL leader has played 116 games and only 8.

Due to the excessive amount of injuries we have a ROTY candidates I believe on this team:
    OF Brandan Hanson (49 games, 157 AB) .306/.329/.510, 34 RBI, 7 HR, 16 SB, 0 CS

    Last 10 Games: 8-2 (again)

    Monthly Records thus Far:
    April: 15-11
    May: 15-14
    June: 11-16
    July: 14-12
    August: 14-4

    5-4 record last sim

The Tigers have not been spectacular coming off a divisional round playoff series loss to the future World Series Champs, the TB Rays. The largest problem in the early season has been the bullpen. We have given up the majority of runs in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings. While one of the best hitting team in the AL last year, this year we have been middle, to the back end of the pack. The only bright spot has been our extra base hits, including home runs were we currently rank 4th and 5th respectively.

Pitching has turned it around as of late though. Currently 5th in the AL in runs against and 6th in hits against. We just need the bats to wake up. Some stellar bats for the Tigers have had dreadful starts to this season. Platoon 1B Grinaldo who is a career .292 hitter is hitting a woe-ful .125 to begin the season. Also, last year's 3B AL All-Star Corey Seager who is also a .292 lifetime hitter is batting .153.

The bright side - the Tigers currently have the future MVP sitting behind the plate catching balls from Tigers pitchers. Ron "The Castle" Schloss (3*/5*) is batting .333/.368/455 with an OPS of 1.059. Currently 5th in AL in SLG % and ISO Power. Currently on basically every top 5 list for AL catchers as well. He's only 24 and his potential increases every sim with his development.

Injury Bug - We have lost back-up utility LF Tyler Collins for 8 months. Adios buddy - see you next year.

Next sim we close our our trip to Tampa we were are currently split. We then host the Texas Rangers and DrunkenSoldier. Then we close out the sim with a 3 game set against the Cleveland "Mistake By The Lake" Indians, managed by JFace907. Who we will not foget, poached 2 players from the Tigers in the rule 5 draft this past off-season. We will happy acknowledge that MR Morris is 1-2 with an ERA of 5+. But SS Tai Damiani has been bright hitting .300 in a limited non-starting role.

    14-12, .538, 1st

    Last Sim: 7-3
    @ TBA 0-1 PepperNY
    vs TEX 2-1 DrunkenSoldier
    @ CLE 3-0 JFace907
    vs. PHI 1-1 Kasper

Things are starting to come together with this ball club. We've managed to overcome a slow start and get into a tie for first place after beginning the season under .500. We still have a few cold bats in the line-up but as long as we are in contention for the division, or major injuries, there will not be any major shake-ups anytime soon. The club is still middle of the pack in the AL for all offensive categories except maybe the most important - runs scored. Somehow we have the most stolen bases, but 4th to last in runs scored. A few strategy adjustment and we'll see how this plays out.

    Offensive Notes
#3 in AL in extra base hits
#1 in AL in stolen bases
OF Brendan Hanson & 2B Stelios Sparta (both starters) are both on the cold batter list
OF KK Ashley leads AL CF in total bases w/49 and highest WAR - 1.3

Tigers happily swept the Indians last sim reminding the tribe who controls the AL Central.

    Upcoming Sim
vs. PHI 1 game left in series Kasper
vs. MIN 4 game set Ken Welsch
vs. NYA 3 game set briosu99
@ MIL 1 game to open 3 game set BigSmooth33

Downloaded the recent league file (since the Tigers season has long been over). But one very bright spot going into next season will be the addition of Pedro Serna to the Tiger dugout. Where we ultimately plug him in might take some time but we would like to congratulate Pedro on his ILL (AAA) Batting Title.

With a constant developing 65 contact / 55 Gap / 70 HR Power with decent discipline Serna is still developing. Being a 1st round draft pick that PAgamer07 rated as a C, sometimes risks pay off (cough cough Stephen Drew :meh:). Serna will be a new threat in the AL Central. He closed out his 2019 campaign with a three game home run streak in a 4 game series sweep against the White Sox soxandgators

Through the first month of the 2020 season, just trying to hold down my nomination. With Falcon being the ace of the Tigers organization for some years now it has just been assumed the nominating committee was either high, oblivious or ignorant - mostly all three with any Blackwood mention... Talk is talk though, so let's visit the facts, or stats in this case:

    serna blast.PNG

Serna seems to be handling his call up quite nicely.

    ames comp.PNG

Ames for Sparta trade comparison... Looks like a solid upgrade.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stay tuned - We will update monthly as we look at more numbers.

    2020 All-Star Break

In a season that started out with some promise while considering no splashes were made in respect to the needed starting rotation, the Tigers were beginning to find a great stride through May.

    Record end of May: 36-27
    Since: 11-21

OF Perdo Serna, in his first season as a starting OF made the All-Star Game over Dave Moore (BAL) with great average, but unexpected low power numbers. All is or not, Serna went down with a season ending arm injury a week before the All-Star Game and the Tigers have shelved Serna until next year after elbow ligament reconstructive surgery. Reason for low power numbers?

The Tigers have been nicked up with the injury bug but the lack of any dominance from the starting rotation has made this year highly frustrating. Why so? Tigers are near the top of the AL in hits, bat avg and OPS but are only 7th in runs scored. On the other side of the coin, the starting rotation is in the dumpster while the bullpen is one of the better pens in the AL, statistically speaking. :hungover:

The Tigers defensive efficiency has been dead last all year while being 11th in runs allowed. Play the Tigers = lots of runs scored. Until two weeks ago nothing was working to help the defense, since Serna going down and some minor strategy adjustments the Tigers have moved up three spots in defensive efficiency and thus someone may have just become a DH. We'll see... Stay tuned

    2020 break.PNG

14 games back of Minnesota for the division and 7 games back for a Wild card berth, we need something to magically go our way this year for any post season play.

    Hail Mary for WC Birth???

With the apocalypse that is the Tigers starting rotation, the Tigers still have life for a WC birth (barely) as we play the Angels & Red Sox who are both 3 games ahead. Tigers still have Toronto on the schedule for 3 games in September which would allow the Tigers to close the gap if they can finish strong in August.

The Blue Jays (Tigers 7 GB) lead for the 2nd AL WC.

    Sweet misery... Offense > Defense

For one sim the hail mary was answered. The Tigers posted an 8-2 record last sim picking up a super sweep against Cleveland and the better than advertised #tepeetankjob and also took 2 of 3 from the LA Angels. The Angels were one of the teams in front of the Tigers in the WC race.

    Current AL WC Standing:
    8.11 WC.PNG

We managed to pick up 5 whole games last sim in the race and things have tightened significantly with about a month and a half to play.

Sweet Misery, as were calling our batting vs. pitching production this year, continues. On top of it all last sim we lost All-Star Nathan Menke to a season ending Tommy John surgery. The young 25 yr old's career is now in Jeopardy. That now puts 3 starting pitchers and one All-Star middle reliever on the season ending DL for the Tigers.

Menke, 3rd rd pick that flamed out as catcher and I converted to a middle reliever. Cool he progressed all the way to an all star and bummer he ripped up his elbow. :(

Here we sit with 2 sims left and one month of ball to play. The Tigers just completed a 18-10 month to get back on track. The injury bug has finally settled down after crushing most of the pitching staff as well as stud RF Pedro Serna for the season. Tigers closed the WC gap by 1 game last sim and now sit only one game behind Toronto.

    9.1 WC.PNG

Sweet Misery is slowing climbing up the Pitching and Defensive side of the ball while the Offense continues to punish opposing pitching.
