Spartans Cruise Past Iowa Strong second quarter lifts Spartans in 27-13 win over #7 Iowa. _______________________________________________________________ Gameday was on hand in East Lansing this weekend as the #7 Iowa Hawkeyes came to Spartan Stadium for an early Big Ten Conference showdown with the #9 MSU Spartans. The Spartans were able to build a lead in the second quarter and the Hawkeyes were unable to recover as MSU eased to a 27-13 victory. MSU spotted Iowa an early 6-0 lead when Maurice Barnes hooked up with Rico Johnson for a 29-yard score. But, the Spartans came right back with three consecutive scores to take a 21-6 halftime lead. The Hawkeyes cut the lead to 8 with a touchdown midway through the third quarter, but Iowa was never really able to recover from the early deficit as MSU tacked on two field goals before burning much of the fourth quarter on the ground. Jay Mayhew had another 100-yard game on the ground, rushing 31 times for 119 yards and a TD on the day. And the return of a healthy Anthony Anderson was a nice bonus for the Spartans as Anderson surpassed 100 yards receiving for the day, adding a touchdown in the process. Next week MSU has a potential trap game at Northwestern before a big showdown with Ohio State in Week 8.
