As some of you may already be aware, I've made the decision that I will be stepping down as the commissioner of 12th Man Football. It was a personal struggle that I had a difficult time coming to terms with. Part of my decision is for selfish reasons so that I can get some of my time and personal sanity back. Another part of my decision is because, quite frankly, I've just grown tired of giving guys the opportunity to be part of something great only to be disappointed time and again.

Truthfully, I think it's time for a new regime for 12th Man Football. It has become apparent that some of the tenured league participants developed the expectation that they deserve to be in the league without reciprocating the effort and/or just grew tired of my direction. Because of that, I think it's time to pass the baton to somebody who can take over and give the league fresh leadership. As difficult as it may be, I think it's time for me to make a selfish decision for once and step away from the league.

I'm going to remove myself from the league entirely for the M25 release. That way there will be absolutely no confusion regarding what my role is with the league, or in this case, the lack thereof. For those of you who want to know, I'm going to assume an ownership position in Shaun Mason's XBOX league, TMFL. It will give me an opportunity to concentrate on regaining the vision of what it is to be an owner in a league again; re-connect with my roots so-to-speak. I will get to meet some new owners, network with other members here at TSO, and see if I like to play on the XBOX platform.

For those of you who are not aware, the next gen consoles are on the horizon. I, personally, would like to test the XBOX platform more to see if I may be interested in a Microsoft product when the next gen systems come out. Granted, it will likely be comparing apples to oranges, but I need to at least take the opportunity while I own both current gen systems (XBOX and PS3). Who knows, I may still get both next gen systems when they are released, but I'm not so sure I can justify that kind of expense to my lovely wife now that she is not working and we are living on my measly income.

I'd like to think that I'll be around the league again, but I don't want to lead you guys on either. I am certain that somebody will step up and keep the league going. It will take time and dedication, but there's no reason why the league cannot continue. Remember, a league is only as good as its members. The league is YOURS. I just work here. Whoever decides to step up will need to be devoted to the greater good of the majority. As long as you have that, the fundamental parameters of the league will not change.

I cannot thank Eddie and Jim enough for their timeless efforts to keep this league running as smoothly as it has. I'd like to believe that I got to know a great deal of you more on a personal level as well. Sure, we may not know each other well enough to know what we like on our pancakes or what kind of pizza we should order. But I know damn well that if I met up with any of you guys on the street that we could chill. Each of you are one of a kind. Please do not let my departure deter you from contacting me in the future or from believing in the league. Thanks to EVERYONE for allowing me the opportunity to lead such a great group of guys for as long as I have!

Sad to see you go Doug. You did a great job as commissioner and your effort was appreciated from my corner of the world. I have no doubt we will be playing Madden against each other in the near future. Take care dude.

just as Marvis said above, sad to see you go Doug, as it was truly a pleasure to be a part of such a well-structured league. The work you put into this league has not gone unnoticed and your leadership will be tough for anyone to match or surpass, whether it be 12th Man or any other league in existence! Thanks for all you've done for 12th Man!

My man Doug, i've told you countless times how much i've enjoyed playing in a league with you and even just talking about random things on yim. Your contributions haven't gone unnoticed and while the selfish side of me still wants you to continue on with your role as commish of the league, i completely understand your reasoning as running a league is a daunting task that you handled greatly. I'm still holding out hope that one day you'll return or we'll meet up in another league down the road sometime. I'm sure we'll keep in touch though, good luck my man (y)

Good luck in the future man. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to play in the 12th man. I too look forward to the Nextgen systems and I must say, PS3 rules XBOX drools! (y)

Very sad to see this post. I have been overly impressed with your leadership since day 1. I sincerely hope to see you around Doug, and much sooner then later. I hope I get a chance to be a part of something that your a part of. You have a countless list of positive attributes I would thank you directly for, but instead I will just merely say...Thank you so very much. I'm always here if you have a change of heart and the football bug gets you...too soon?

Much Love man. BOL in all you do

I honestly hate to see you go, Doug.
I was never in agreement with every decision you made but, I could see the reasons behind the decisions and thus accepted them.
It sucks but, dealing with people will always grow stressful at some point. And sometimes it can reach the point, as it apparently has with you, that we just don't want nor need to deal with it anymore.
It's a shame really and those owners who have contributed to this decision should reflect on how their actions have caused another person to lose the joy they had experienced in the past. In the self-centered world we live in, however, I'm not so sure that reflection will lead to any changes.
Can't say I will ever move to XBox. But, I do hope I get the opportunity to be in the same league with you again.
    Keep in touch, bro...CHUNKNESS

i feel the same disappointment that i felt when the "U" dissolved but you stepped up and kept most of that group together and added some new guys and kept it going even though it was a mother and got it to this point and put ALOT of time and dedication into the "P" and 12th and kept our group strong, i feel and hope that we will step up again and keep this going because i dont know of many leagues that have had a core of guys playing as long as some of us have(almost 10 yrs myself)so i know we can do it and i personally will be willing to do whatever it takes to keep it going and if that means buying a laptop to take to work to handle league business then thats what im going to do and i hope that other guys feel the same way.so with that being said its been a blast doug and im honestly gonna miss having you around and totally appreciate the family sacrafices that im sure you had to deal with and we probably didnt even know about most of the time,so best of luck in your future endeavors and we are gonna try and make sure your sacrafices for the league wil not have been in vain.lets keep this thing going baby!! I can only imagine the time Doug had with making this decision... but can imagine the time he will gain back with stepping down & away to spend with his family as well as other things. Doug has done alot for us to even be where we are as a group.. some may be sad about his decision, but you have to respect it. My wife gives me the business about playing a damn game.. that's why I have to wait til a certain time to make sure I spend it with the fam. Its certainly a hell of a task to deal with all the different personas we have in here & maintain a family lifestyle on top of that. I'm happy Doug is taking the time to get back to his roots as well as regain some of his time.. I think this became too much of a job for him and the enjoyment of being just one of the guys went away. Take back your time Dougie Fresh... get that running back vision back on track!

Thanks for all the great years... been doing this shit since PS2 with this online Madden shit

    Later all......
    WarHawk out

I want to echo all the comments that have came before mine. It's a sad day in 12th man land but I completely understand where you're coming from Doug. All the time and sacrafice you've given us over the years is greatly appreciated. Back in the PS2 days many of us here joined a league known as the UMFL. After a few Madden releases later we were introduced to a new member (CHUNKNESS) who immediately dove in and got his hands dirty with all the regular duties of a commissioner. After another Madden release or so, along with Eddie (PITTROCKS) <--- they really do...sorry i got a little sidetracked there. Anyways, as I was saying Doug and Eddie decided to form the PMFL and many members followed. Even the "U's" founding fathers joined on to the PMFL. After another name change and many Madden releases we have what we all have come to know as the 12th man. In the last year or two another gentlemen jumped in head first, much like Doug and Eddie did years ago. Jim, your work here hasn't gone unnoticed either.

I don't usually say a lot but I figured this deserved a little something. Doug you will be truly missed, TMFL will be lucky to have a man like you joining their ranks. I know I'll see you around but once again thanks for everything you've given me over all these years.

    Take care my man!

Damn Doug, hate to see you leave man. All of your efforts have been greatly appreciated. Wish you would reconsider but as long as u are happy with your decision, thats what counts. Much love and repect to you.

OAN, I am willing to do whatever is needed to keep this league going and launch next seasons edition. Please don't hesitate to use me. Since my promotion in October, I'm not required to travel. Making more money and I have more free time on my hands.

My apologies for not posting sooner, but I wanted to be sure I had the time post a proper reply, rather than quickly hammering out some half assed response.

Obviously I hate to see you go Doug. While I would selfishly like to see you stick around as the commissioner of the 12th Man, I can also understand completely where you are coming from with your decision. I also want to take this opportunity to thank you for all of the hard work you have put in for the league I have called home for the last few years or so. You have always gone above and beyond to make our league the best it could possibly be for everyone involved, at great personal sacrifice of your own time.

I thought I understood what it meant to run a league before, but helping you run the 12th Man for this release was really an eye opening experience for me. Whether it's dealing with regular duties (advances, forum postings, etc), game play issues, scheduling issues, game glitches (salary cap problems!), or whatever else comes up, it truly does take an impressive commitment to stay on top of everything and keep a league running smoothly. It can at times be a thankless job, especially when you have to make the tough (and sometimes unpopular) decisions that you felt were in the best interest of the league as a whole. Through it all, you have always managed to handle yourself with great character and integrity, and that is very admirable.

I can't say for sure what this means for the future of 12th Man Football; but I think I can say without a doubt that, if the league does continue, it will never be the same without you.

I want to personally thank you for everything I have learned from you about running a top notch sim football league. The TMFL is getting themselves one hell of a quality addition to their league. Obviously this is not goodbye, as I consider you a friend regardless of where we are playing Madden. Thanks again for being the best damn commissioner I have ever played for or had the privilege to work along side.

With that being said....I gotta go change my tampon.

I'd be lieing if i said you didnt do what it took to run a smooth and fun league. Clearly there were times when decisions may have been questionable...but in reality its life and i realized you were doing what you thought was best for the league. Truthfully, more often than not those decisions panned out to be legit. I have to say...there really hasnt been a moment where i lost interest in 12th Man. Im a picky dude as well...and very firm with my opinions. I think you solidified the term commissioner in its most accurate way.

This was my first online experience and i thank you for giving me a chance. The 12th Man has given me a home. You were kind of like my foster dad hahah. I got so comfortable playing in such a fine tuned league that i wanted more...so i went out to find more leagues just to get more play in. At the end of the day...most leagues out there are jokes and are'nt run as smooth as this one. All of the fun gets sucked out when clowns are apart of a league. Youve done a great job applying the right pieces to make this league run. I consider all these guys my brothers.

Again im very picky on how i feel a league should be run. 12th has been about as simulated as you can get. I believe youve set a great example to others on how to run a league. So i have no doubt im my mind M25 will be at its best once August comes around. This league is the next best thing besides playin....and i thank you Doug. You will be missed and have always been there for me. Stay in touch and hopefully we can meet up again. Cheers brotha.

A little disheartening to see you go, Doug. As someone who invited me into 12th, it was an opportunity to join a hell of league and meet lots of great people. I did exactly that, and was the best decision when it came to joining a Madden league. You we're always looking out for the best interest of the league, and your owners. You put countless hours into making sure the league ran smoothly, and even moreso, you always made the tough decisions that weren't always popular. It's the tough part about being the commish, but you did it anyway.

I may have left on somewhat of bitter terms, but I still respect the hell out of you Doug. You gave this league the shirt of your back time and again. It's time you take back your personal life; there's absolutely nothing selfish about that at all. I ever were to rejoin 12th....I'd hope you'd be part of the league in some capacity, even as "just an owner."

Whoever steps in in your stead will have their hands full, and will have some mighty large shoes to fill. Not a desirable position to be put in, but hopefully they run it the respectful and unselfish way that 12th Man owners have come to be familiar with. Your leadership and voice in this league will undoubtedly be missed.

    tj
