Mystery painting

    This painting was supposedly brought back from one of my relatives who was a WWII veteran. Have no idea who the painter is or what era it is from. My initial guess is renaissance era but I don't know enough about painting to have a clue.

    My .02 - It looks like a very small chance that, that initial is an M to me. It very clearly looks like a W to me but what do I know.
