Titans Take Big Risks in 2016 Draft, Draft Offense Heavy

With the 26th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans selected RB Denton Milleson out of Washington State. The move turned heads to say the least. Not so much in regards to Milleson himself, but the move most likely means a certain end to the Chris Johnson era in Tennessee. Johnson is entering his final year under contract, and with the emergence of Tauren Poole last season coupled with the drafting of Milleson, CJ2K should definitely not be expecting an extension from Tennessee. Milleson is a high risk/reward candidate in this draft. Many had him going in the late 2nd, but his 6'5 stature and ability to run over people was just too big for the Titans to pass up. There will be a fierce camp battle between Milleson and Poole for the starting gig.

With their second pick in the draft, the Titans addressed their dire need for a left tackle as they drafted Hayden Whiteside out of Montana. Whiteside is an upgrade over Quadorias Esparza, who the Titans had signed during the free agency period. Whiteside will be plugged in immediately and will be asked to start. He definitely needs some improvement in some key areas, but the front office is hoping he gets enough experience in a season to be a key part of the Titan offense.

The Titans are being said to have gotten one of the steals of this draft class with their selection in the third round, WR Jamarcus Seymour. Seymour is a big target out of Air Force with great hands. His downfall may be his speed, or lack there of, but this guy is a solid route runner with some of the best hands we've seen in a while. He will most likely line up outside across from Brandon Marshall, which will allow Kendall Wright to move back into his natural slot position. The Titans are pretty excited about this one, and it will give QB Geno Smith another weapon on the outside.

Team Sures Up Offensive Line, Makes Two Good Defensive Picks in 2017 Draft

Heading into the 2017 NFL draft the Tennessee Titans owned the #4 pick overall after a disappointing 2016 season. Hours before the draft kicked off, however; the Titans front office would strike a deal with the Seattle Seahawks that sent their #4 away for Seattle's #11, #23, and #35 picks overall. A move that turned out to be great for the organization. They targeted DE Earlzo Shorter from Kansas State the entire way. And never did they think he would make it to the #11 pick. He did, and the Titans made him their first draft choice.

The Titans came into the draft with a dire need for two offensive tackles. With their second pick in the draft, they selected LT Hayden Schlachter from Arizona State. The Titans had Schalchter pegged as their #1 OT target throughout the entire draft process. He's both an excellent run and pass blocker, and the Titans are thrilled to have him protecting QB Geno Smith's blind side.

With their 24th overall selection, acquired from the Miami Dolphins, the Titans selected DB Labrece Lyons from the University of Pittsburgh. Lyons will add to an already very deep secondary for the Titans. Some may have questioned the move with the depth being a factor at that position for Tennssee, but one look at Lyons' coverage skills coupled with his ability to catch the ball, will answer any questions. Lyons may be plugged into an immediate starters role and play opposite Jason McCourty.

Once they got into the second round, the Titans had one guy left at the very top of their list. RT Denton Hemmila from the University of Central Florida. Hemmila is still only 20 years old, and stands 6'7 at 295 pounds. He possesses a very good mix of both speed and strength and is a very good blocker. He will have an impact immediately and the Titans offensive line, including the signing of former Titan C Brian Schwenke during the offseason, will be set for many years to come after this draft.

The Titans added two WR's with their next picks, Jye Arthur and Edgeton Mack. Both will be asked to play a role this season in some capacity. Mack is expected to share kick and punt return duties with possibly Labrece Lyons.

Titans 2017 Schedule At A Glance

The Titans will have another difficult road to the postseason in the upcoming 2017 season. Below is the schedule and we'll also break some of these key games down and how it could shape up for the Titans this year:

    Game 1: vs Indianapolis Colts* - W 31-28
    Game 2: at San Diego Chargers - W 35-7
    Game 3: vs Pittsburgh Steelers - W 17-7
    Game 4: at Houston Texans* - W 28-10
    Game 5: at Baltimore Ravens - L 27-24
    Game 6: at Dallas Cowboys - L 14-6
    Game 7: vs Washington Redskins - W 13-10
    Game 8: at Indianapolis Colts* - W 23-6
    Game 9: at Cincinnati Bengals - W 30-16
    Game 10: vs Orlando Sentinels - W 20-3
Game 11: vs Philadelphia Eagles - W 17-14 (Super Sim)
    Game 12: vs Jacksonville Jaguars* - W 17-10
    Game 13: at New York Giants - L 31-17
    Game 14: vs Cleveland Browns - L 31-17
    Game 15: vs Houston Texans* - L 14-7
    Game 16: at Jacksonville Jaguars* - L 35-0

Wildcard Round: vs Indianapolis Colts - L 35-6

Game 1 - The season couldn't open up any harder than a game with division foe, Indianapolis. The Colts were the 2016 Superbowl Champs and have pretty much the same squad as that season. The two things the Titans may have going for them is that the game is in Tennessee, and they did beat the Colts during their Superbowl season (whatever that means).

Game 5 - The team will find themselves in the middle of a 3 game travel stint that will have them playing the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens have been a mainstay in the AFC North and this will be a difficult game for the Titans. Geno Smith's ability to protect the ball will be key here against a stingy Ravens D.

Game 12 - The Titans will play host to the Jacksonville Jaguars and will get their first look at this division rival. Jacksonville has once again reloaded through the draft and will definitely be a hard out this year. If the Titans want any shot at making the playoffs, they have to win key divisional games like this one at home.

Game 14 - The Titans will host the revitalized Cleveland Browns in early December. The Browns of old are old news. This Browns team plays solid D and has an offense to match. They've made the playoffs quite often in recent history and no doubt will be back in the mix this year.

Games 15/16 - Two divisional games to closeout a tough schedule for the Titans. They'll play host to the Houston Texans in week 16 and travel to Jacksonville to face the Jaguars to close out the regular season. Hopefully the Titans are in the mix at this point in the season, if so, victories in these two games will be paramount to their postseason.

Titans Make Huge Trade, Acquire All-Pro TE Jordan Cameron

Nashville, TN -- The Titans have had a stellar offseason this year. They've added pieces both through the 2017 draft and free agency that should improve this ball club in many areas. On Monday, just days before the 2017 season kicks off, the team struck a deal with the Cleveland Browns for All-Pro TE Jordan Cameron. Cameron is a huge upgrade at the position, and gives QB Geno Smith yet another dangerous weapon to play with. Cameron will join former Pro Bowler, Brent Celek, as the team's two tight ends. The Titans also acquired the Browns 2018 3rd round pick in the deal. On the other side, the Titans dealt young up-and-comer, Mike Martin, along with TE Taylor Thompson to Cleveland. Two very good players with a lot of potential in their own right. There's no doubt though, Tennessee is ecstatic to have Cameron join this team!

Tennessee Boasting #1 Ranked Defense Through Week 3

Nashville, TN -- Heading into their critical week 4 matchup against division foe Houston, the Tennessee Titans are playing some of their best football in recent memory. Their offense seems to be clicking and QB Geno Smith is protecting the ball more than turning it over. Their run game features a 3-headed tandum, when rookie LeNerick Good is healthy, and their passing game features both an All-Pro WR and an All-Pro TE. But to find the true strength and heart of this team, one must look at the defense. The unit is ranked as the #1 defense in the entire NFL heading into week 4. They are allowing a mere 14 points per game, and only 248 yards per game; both good for 1st in the NFL. They've been getting outstanding play from both their LB's and secondary. FS Lonnie Gotzmer and SS Vinny Bass, who the team both drafted in the 2015 draft, have made huge strides to suring up their back end. They are quickly becoming two of the best at their respected positions league wide. This team hasn't started out this hot since the 2013 season, where they started 5-0 and ended up finishing 8-8 missing the playoffs. So this team as a whole knows that it's way too early to start making claims, but if they keep playing sound and mistake free football; the sky is the limit.

Rookie RB LeNerick Good Named New Starter

Good went down with a week 1 injury that sidelined him for 7 weeks. Upon his return in week 8, Good rushed for nearly 120 yards with 1 score. It was by far the best showing by a Titans RB all season, even though their running game as a whole has been one of the leagues best. Good took over for 2nd year back Denton Milleson, who will also still see playing time and remain a valuable piece of this offense.

X-Rays Positive, WR Wright Breaks Wrist

WR Kendall Wright will be sidelined for 6 weeks, the remainder of the regular season, with a broken wrist. Wright suffered the injury while going across the middle against the Cincinnati Bengals. On the season, Wright had hauled in 8 passes for 88 yards and a TD. Taking his place will be rookie, Jye Arthur, who will see his first action in the NFL this upcoming week against the Orlando Sentinels. Arthur attended the small D-III school, UW Lacrosse, and is said to be a natural slot receiver and at 6'3 also possesses above average hands. We'll see just how well he fills the role, and if the Titans offense skips a beat with this injury.

    EDIT:

In his first NFL game action, the rookie Jye Arthur certainly impressed beyond expectations. He got off to a very quick start as his first professional catch went for a 35 yard TD. Later in the game, Arthur would explode off of the line and give the Titans a deep streak that has lacked in this offense. Geno Smith led him just a bit, but Arthur was able to make a diving catch for a 46 yard gain. It was a great start to this rookie's career and with Brandon Marshall nearing the end of his, Arthur may be playing for a starting role within this offense in the next few seasons.

Titans Entering Pivotal Three Game Stretch

The Tennessee Titans currently sit atop the AFC South at 9-2 with a three game lead on the Indianapolis Colts. They are in prime position to finally break through this division and capture the title. Their next three games, however; look pretty daunting on paper. First up will be a divisional grudge match against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Do not let their 4-7 record on the year fool you. The Titans know just how dangerous they can be when given the opportunity. If they survive that battle they will be 10-2 and in the hunt for a 1st round bye in this years playoffs. The following week the team will head to New York as they will take on the NFC East leading Giants. The Giants are in a dog fight currently for their respective division with the Dallas Cowboys. This matchup will be pivotal for both teams regarding both divisional aspirations as well as playoff seedings. And things don't get any easier from there for the Titans. That's because the 9-2 AFC North leading Cleveland Browns will invade the Music City in what could shape up to be a fight for the #1 or #2 overall seed in the playoffs. The Browns themselves have a huge matchup this week against the 10-1 AFC leading New England Patriots. If the Browns can pull out a victory there, this race towards the playoffs will get mighty interesting as far as the AFC is concerned. As of now, the Titans are sitting in great position and have to love where they are at. But one slip up against any of these teams in the remaining 5 weeks, especially this 3 week stretch, could be catastrophic to not only their playoff hopes but their divisional hopes as well. Stay tuned!!

X-Rays Show Herniated Disk for J. McCourty

The news wasn't good this morning for Titans DB Jason McCourty. The defensive back suffered a herniated disk on the final play of their week 13 match against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The unfortunate injury will sideline him for 7 weeks, ending his season and possibly career as a Tennessee Titan. Blidi Wreh-Wilson will take over the starter's role and play opposite Alterraun Verner. Depending on how that plays out, the Titans may choose to let McCourty hit the free agent market. They've gotten outstanding play from their rookie DB Labrece Lyons this season, who leads the team with 6 INTs, so they may have acquired the depth to let the veteran DB go. He's had a great career in Tennessee, and if it is indeed over, the Titans thank him for his service!

Titans Lose Second Straight, Owner Flips Out in Press Box

It was an ugly day for the Tennessee Titans as they met the Cleveland Browns for a pivotal matchup that not only had huge playoff implications, but a win here could have clinched the AFC South for the Titans as well. From the onset the Titans knew it was not to be their day. Everything and anything that could have gone wrong, did. From Cleveland's opening drive that lasted 4 minutes and ended with a TD, to the Titans first play from scrimmage which ended in a Geno Smith INT. Mix in a 100 yard kick return by the Browns' special teams and the Titans were down 21-3 early. They were never in the game, to be honest, and they themselves would add humility to the loss. The owner was so infuriated with his defense's inability to stop corner routes that he chunked his controller midway through the 3rd quarter and broke it beyond repair. When asked about the incident he had this to say, "I had seen enough. Plain and simple. We came out flat from the get go and our piss poor play calling was mostly to blame. You let a team like that get out early and it will be tough to comeback no matter what. Funny thing is, we actually played better with a broke dick controller. My apologies again to the Cleveland owner and team. They definitely deserved the win today, but maybe we would have even had a shot at making that comeback had I not lost it. Oh well, we live and learn. We still control our own destiny and if we can manage to win just 1 of our final 2 games, we will be in the playoffs as AFC South Champs. That was our goal from the beginning of the season, and it is still in our grasps. We will find a new controller, and make some adjustments both playbook wise and personnel wise before our next matchup with the Houston Texans." The Titans definitely need to get things fixed quickly, and like the owner has said, as long as they win 1 of the last 2; all will be well in the Music City.

Titans Lose Again, Owner "Over It"

The Tennessee Titans lost their third straight game and will most likely let the AFC South slip right between their fingers. All they needed to do was win 1 game in the last 4, and they're in danger of going 0-4. It would be a huge disappointment for this franchise and all but knock the wind out of any sail they have in Nashville. The owner kept his cool this game, however after the game he stated over and over again that he was "over it". Guys, including the owner, just look as if they are no longer having fun on the football field. When you see the same plays being run on you week after week after week I guess the game just gets too redundant or repetitive. With that said, the Titans can still win the South with a win against the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 17, but let's face the facts; this team is a far cry from the team they were a month and a half ago. They don't look like anywhere near a playoff team and frankly don't deserve to make it. Couple that with the fact that Jacksonville, no doubt, will be looking for revenge from their earlier season loss to the Titans, a game in which everyone knows the Jags should have won, and the playoffs are pretty unrealistic for Tennessee. The only way they get in is if somehow the Raiders beat the Colts, and if that happens how good of a team are you really? Get ready Nashville, the only music flowing through the Music City will soon be that of the blues.

Not blaming people for running them or anything, more on myself for still not being able to stop them after 7 months of playing a game...Just over this release and can't wait for the move to PS4!...And then I can complain about the same thing happening on that system, but at least the graphics will be 10x better! But real shit, I had to buy a new control yesterday because my other one broke and I wasn't paying $60 for a new one when Madden will most likely be the last PS3 game I ever play and the only reasons I'll need a control is for Netflix. Anyways, bought a "Candy Rocks" controller for $30 and it's absolute horse shit. If I don't win another game this release I honestly won't be surprised. Buttons get stuck, analogs work like crap. So that's really why I'm not expecting to win this last game, or any other. It was my first game last night with it though, so maybe it gets better, I don't have much hope though.

A Miracle in the Music City II, Titans 2017 AFC South Champions

For the first time in over a decade, the Tennessee Titans are AFC South Champions!! Having lost 4 of their last 5 games and all but playing themselves out of the playoffs, the Titans caught a huge miracle when the Oakland Raiders defeated the Indianapolis Colts in week 17. The Colts loss meant that the division would go to the Titans as they had defeated Indy in their two seasonal matchups. This is really all the Titans have been gunning for, an AFC South Championship. It may not have came pretty, on their part, but the team will definitely take it. Coincidentally, they will host the Colts in the Wild Card matchup with the winner heading to Cleveland to take on the Browns. No matter what happens from here on out though, the Tennessee Titans are the 2017 AFC South CHAMPIONS!!!

Titans Shopping Big Names in 2018 Off-Season

Now that their 2017 is over, after suffering a big loss to Indianapolis in the Wild Card round, the Tennessee Titans are quickly shifting their attention to the offseason. Front office management will have about $30M to play with this season in free agency and will look to make a huge splash. They also seem keen on acquiring more draft picks in the upcoming 2018 draft. Big names like Brandon Marshall, Alterraun Verner, and possibly even Jurrell Casey may be on the move. Keep it tuned in as we shift focus from the 2017 AFC South division winning Tennessee Titans to the 2018 Titans. Can they repeat?! Stay tuned!

Titans Make Two Big Trades With Seahawks in 2018 Offseason

The Tennessee Titans struck two deals over the weekend just before the 2018 NFL Draft, both with the Seattle Seahawks. The first deal struck brought star WR Keliko Ambles and veteran LG James Carpenter to Tennessee for the Titans 2018 1st Round Pick (#22 overall), their 2018 2nd Round Pick (#54 overall), and a to be determined 3rd Round Pick in the 2019 draft. Both players will step in and have an immediate impact for the Titans. Ambles will fill the role left vacant by the retired Brandon Marshall, and Carpenter will take over for the older Andy Levitre. Forty-eight hours later, these two teams would be on the phones with one another once again. Unable to spot anyone they really liked in this draft, the Titans pulled the trigger on a late draft-day trade that sent their second 2018 First Round Pick (#31 overall) as well as two of their three 3rd Round Picks to Seattle in exchange for Seattle's 2019 1st Round Pick and 2 of their 3rd Round Picks in next year's draft (one of which were traded to them just hours earlier in the first trade between the two teams). Two big trades that will shape both organizations for years to come, and we look forward to seeing both Keliko and big James in a Tennessee Titans uniform!
