NC State Wolfpack - Papa Perry

Coach Papa Starts Coaching Career Off Right With A Win Against The Ol' Ball Coach

It was a night of firsts in the first night of college football this season. In his first career game, Coach Papa got his first career win. It was a classic match-up of old school and new school. The defenses were stubburn and the offenses were wide open. But what decided it all was special teams play (particularly the kickers). South Carolina kicker Lanning missed 2 FG's that you could say cost them the game. Especially since if he would have made the last one he missed in the 4th quarter, NC State kicker Czajkowski (who was 3-3) would not have been called on to kick the game winning FG in the 4th as time expired.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

The Good - NC State receiver Jarvis Williams had 5 catches for 107 yards and a TD

The Bad - Russell Wilson threw 2 INT's one of which was returned for a TD that kept South Carolina in the game.

The Ugly - South Carolina's kicking game. 'nuff said

That's a nice opening victory for NC State. Represent for the ACC!

    Week 2 - ECU @ NC State

Wilson Shines In Wolfpack's 38-24 Win Over ECU

Russell Wilson (14-15, 206 Yds, 2 TD) and the Wolfpack offense did a great job against the Pirates defense. Gaining 396 yards of total offense, it was very balanced with 179 rushing and 217 passing. The defense struggled mostly because of big plays by Pinkney and the Pirates receivers. All 3 TD's given up by the Wolfpack were passes that went for 60 yards or more. The totall yardage gained on those 3 plays combined was 202 yards which was nearly 2/3 of ECU's total yards on offense. If NC State cannot eliminate these problems they will struggle through their tough ACC schedule.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

The Good - NC State went 12-16 on 3rd Down Conversions and 5-6 in Redzone Scoring

The Bad - Running backs could have played a little better. 3.5 yards per carry is ok, but this defense is definitely not the best NC State will see.

The Ugly - Secondary gave up those 3 big TD's way too easy.

    Week 4 - #24 Pitt @ NC State

Wolfpack Rushing Attack Dominates; NC State Beats Pitt 34-12

The Panthers were in no way prepared for what the Wolfpack had in store for them. The defense was stingy all day and only allowed 1 TD and forced a fumble that set up a Wolfpack touchdown. And the NC State running backs run all over Pitt's defense. Accumulating 245 total rushing yards and 2 TD's. However, Baker did give up a fumble and so did one of the Wolfpack receivers but the defense bailed them out and didn't give up a TD after the turnovers.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

The Good - Defense held on when they needed to. Only allowed Pitt offense to convert 3-12 3rd downs.

The Bad - Russell never could establish the passing threat. 10-18 138 yards is very below average.

The Ugly - Defense still gave up a big play in the first quarter on a 53 yard pass. The whole defense was at fault on that play.

Week 5: NC State @ Wake Forest

Wilson Visits Endzone 3 Times; Wolfpac Wins 24-10

In what was his best overall game this year, Russell Wilson showed out in front of the Demon Deacon crowd in NC State's conference opener. Going 18-21 for 198 yards and having 17 carries for 119 yards he totaled for 3 touchdowns. The defense shutdown the run and made the plays it needed to.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

The Good - Russell Wilson 317 total yards and 3 total TD's

The Bad - Russell Wilson's lone INT was definitely an errant pass that shouldn't have been thrown

The Ugly - Giving up 218 yards through the air isn't exactly what Coach Papa likes to see out of his defense
