#1 Notre Dame traveled west off their hard fought win against MSU to take on rival Stanford. Stanford was laying a trap game hoping the long flight and a tough win would spell upset. And with the way the game started out it could’ve happened. Stanford took the hoping drive and punched 7 on the board with a 25yrd Td pass. ND opened up shop on the 25 and looked to counter with a score of their own. On ND’s third play ROLB Maurice Thompson scooped up a fumble and took it to the house for the score. “We were a little rattled after that play and had to regroup. The leaders gathered the team together and lit a fire under some pants.” Coach Edge. On ND’s next possession the offense started clicking and a big play came twice. On their own 20 AA David Green took an off tackle hand off broke on tackle and busted loose for an 80yrd TD run. But hold everything everyone it’s gonna come back for clipping on what was a mystery call. On the next play Stanford broke through the line and stuffed Green for a 3yrd loss. “I was hot in the huddle and started telling everyone we didn’t come all the way out here to lose to these guys. So get you a** in the game or get the h*** off the field. “AA David Green told the press after the game. And Green walked to the walk also, because on the next the play QB James Gutierrez hit Green for an 83yrd td pass. “He’s the heart and soul of this team. When you have a player that is that talented you have to get the ball in his hands any was possible and as much as possible. He’s a TD waiting to happen every time he touches the rock.” QB James Gutierrez. ND turned up the heat on D also and forced Stanford to a 3 and out. ND once again behind the play of Green marched down the field capped off by a Green 6yrd TD run. ND went on to score 31 unanswered points and put Stanford’s hope for an upset on ice. ND has a bye next week for some much needed rest as its quest for the BCS title continues.
