2009: Game 1

    Nevada (0-1) @ Notre Dame (1-0)

    SMOKED 62-38

    AP- SOUTH BEND, IN
NBC's national broadcast of Notre Dames first game of 2009 welcomes the University of Nevada Wolf Pack.

During College Game Day on ESPN, Kirk Herbstreit picked Nevada for the upset of the day while Lee Corso came out with a green hat and picked Notre Dame to win the game.

And that was about all she wrote. Allen - RB ND broke the school record for rushing yards in a game with 263. (262 previous) Nevada could not stop the Charlie Weis O.
Tons of broken tackles lead to ND just running all over the Wolfpack. By the time Nevada got their offense rolling it was to little to late.

Kapernick, who finished with 392 yards passing and 57 yards rushing said, "This one hurts. We practice all summer long...and
I go out and toss 4 picks. I wont let that happen again."

Play of the game goes to a costly INT return for a TD for the Irish.

As far as I know you only get emailed stats from online games vs. other users not from online dynasty games...You'll probably just need to go look at your game stats and get them from there.

As for the video and pics, have you ever been able to find them when you've sent them to easportsworld? If so, I had the same problem...My EA ID was JHeb (web) but has to be JHeb (360). I ended up having to send in a request to get it fixed and they did, really quickly. Now I can see the vids and pics I send to easportsworld.

Wow! Did Nevada and Notre Dame both agree to only play 9 guys on defense this game or something?!?

Tuscaloosa, Alabama - The Nevada Wolf Pack, fresh of their loss to Notre Dame in week one, had a bye week to fix what was broken before they faced #4 Alabama. Did it work? Well...sort of.....

We pick up the game late in the first quarter as the Wolf Pack defense, the area of concern following the 62 points they gave up at Notre Dame, was holding their own at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Both teams remained scoreless until the Wolf Pack scored first when running back L. Lippincott broke of a 17 yard TD. And when you looked to the sidelines you could tell something in this team was different.

Alabama answered quickly as they put up 14 unanswered points including a crucial TD to end the half which put Nevada back in catch up mode, something they're now comfortable with. With half time adjustments made to the run game, Nevada was set to make a come back to start the 2nd half.

Quarterback C. Kaepernick guided his Wolf Pack with ease to start the 3rd quarter down to the 14 yard line. And that's where full back M. Ball took the game over with his first of 4 touchdowns of the day.

Alabama and Nevada would trade a few more scores until Nevada's defense finally made good on their promise to actually show up. Alabama with seconds left in the 4th quarter, was just outside of field goal range and was facing a 3rd and long. That's when linebacker D. Moch made the biggest play in regulation for the Wolf Pack by coming up with a huge sack.

The game shifted to overtime and Nevada won the toss and elected to play defense first. But the sticky Nevada defense that had played so hard all game long began to come unglued. The first play from scrimmage was Alabama's 3rd rushing touchdown of the game and once again put pressure on Nevada's offense.

Facing a 4th and goal from the 5 yard line, Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick called a play action roll out that saw every option covered...every option but one.

The second overtime saw a TD pass from Alabama and another TD run for Nevada's Ball. But it was the 3rd overtime that these Wolves will no doubt have to live with on the flight home. Alabama was first up, and after a few close calls, scored on yet another touchdown pass from quarterback McElroy, who had over 300 yards passing on the day. Alabama however, was unable to convert the 2-pt conversion. Finally a chance for the Wolf Pack to take over the game. All they needed was for their offense to do what it was built to do. But running back L. Lippincott was injured on 2nd down and Nevada went to the well too many times with fullback M. Ball and came up short on a 4th and 1.

"This one hurts"- Kaepernick said as he visited with reporters before heading to the airport. "Its going to be a long flight back to Reno".

One thing is for sure, there is something different about this Wolf Pack team verses the team that showed up two weeks ago at South Bend. But the competition doesn't drop off to much with Big 12 foe Missouri next on the list.

Wolf Pack Roll 42-28 at the 'Den

Nevada fresh of two road losses brought the pain in a 42-28 rout of Big 12 foe Missouri. Nevada's defense finally showed up and in a BIG way keeping their 3rd down conversions to 40%.

But as usual, the offense is what makes this team tick and once again, they didn't disappoint. "We wanted to use more clock this game, be in control" Nevada's coach said. "We wanted to demoralize them both physically and mentally." Nevada controlled the ball 7 min more than Missouri and it had an impact late in the game. "Late in the game we were just going 3 and out. It was like Here Nevada, take the ball back and sit on it for us" - Missouri's coach.

Star running back, L. Lippincott, was again the spark plug to the Nevada offense with a game high 166 yards and 2 scores. "Every week my linemen open up these holes. I just cant wait for next week" Lippincott said.

And just what is next week you might ask?

    UNLV vs NEVADA

The winner takes home the "Fremont Cannon" and state bragging rights for the year.

"Say what you want to about the Notre Dame and Alabama games. This is the game we live for all year long." Says Quarterback Colin Kaepernick. "It's our instate rivalry and if you win you're all good. But if you lose, you have to hear about it from your friends and people in town all year long. Fortunately for us, UNLV has been hearing about it for 4 years in a row and we're trying to make sure they hear about it one more."

    I just love this picture:

I suck at stiff arming people so bad that I didn't even think it was possible in this game. I've stopped even trying. Good to see it can actually be done!(y)

    Fremont Cannon Stays in Reno

    Nevada defends the ‘Den 45-17

Reno, NV – The battle for Fremont Canon was decided not by tackles or passes, but instead by a fumble on the kickoff to start the 2nd half. UNLV, who trailed by 14 in the first quarter, rallied back and showed they we not going to go down without a fight and went into halftime only down 21-17.

    6 of UNLV's 17 second quarter points

That’s when it happened. It started out as just as a fumble, but then turned into a title wave of plays that could not be overcome. Just as UNLV got the kickoff, their return man fumbled the ball which Nevada then turned into points.

Minutes later UNLV QB Clayton was intercepted by Nevada's Samples and Nevada started to grind the ball back down the field. Nevada's M. Ball took the FB option 18 yards to pay dirt and you knew this one was in the books.

FB M. Ball runs 18 yards to paydirt

We caught up with Player of the game running back L. Lippincott, “It feels great to get another win. Not only because it was against our rival, but it puts us at .500 and we’re back to showing America what this team is capable of doingâ€ÂÂ

    Lippincott continues his running ways

With Nevada’s offense continuing to put up good numbers it was the defense that continues to improve each week.

    Nevada's #1 Ranked Offense Routs La Tech 59 - 20

La Tech QB Jenkins Sacked on a HB screen

Reno, NV – “The ‘Pack are back!†yells one fan. “Don’t look now!†shouts another. The Nevada Wolf Pack racked up another 700+ yards and their defense posts another great game with their 3rd win in a row.

Lippincott pulls away from a La Tech defender

Star running back L. Lippincott again shredded the opposing defense with 246 yards and 4TD’s. “The Fat Nastys up front should get all the credit†smiled Lippincott. “If it wasn’t me it would be M. Ball, Brown or Taua…that’s just how our big men up front rollâ€ÂÂ.

And roll they did. On the opening drive, La Tech was forced 3 and out and Nevada quickly got on the board with a M. Ball TD run. But La Tech would hang around early with a huge fumble recovery and return.

La Tech's D. Young not only had 20 tackles on the day but returns this fumble into Wolf Pack territory.

3 plays later a TD toss to Williams tied the game at 7’s.

That’s when Nevada's offense started to wake up. Lippincott scored twice and Kaepernick fired a few darts, one to D. Sanders for a 28 yard score.

Kaepernick steps up and finds Sanders on the crossing rout

La Tech made some great adjustments at half time and didn't waste any time getting on the scoreboard. Nevada's powerful offense was held scoreless as Star QB Kaepernick was knocked out of the last two quarters of the game. La Tech started the 4th quarter quick like they started the 3rd. Another TD pass to C. Williams for 44 yards.

Nevada wasn’t phased, even with Kaepernick on the sidelines. “That’s where the ground game really helps out†Nevada's coach said. “Kaepernick got knocked out of the game and Lantrip came in and just handed the ball off to Lipp and Ball. He really managed the game well for us in the 4th quarter.â€ÂÂ

Nevada uncorks on Utah St 59 - 17

Nevada's Mr. Everything, Luke Lippincott, scores his first of three touchdowns on the day

Logan, UT – The game was over on Utah St’s first play from scrimmage. Utah St. wide receiver N. Gwacham fumbled the ball after a button hook and Nevada linebacker N. Burnett picked it off the ground and returned it inside Utah St’s 15 yard line. Two plays later the NCAA week 6 offensive player of the week, Luke Lippincott, scored from 3 yards out and Nevada never looked back.

Lippincott went on to rush for 211 yards and 3 scores while his backup T. Brown added in another 44 yards and 2 scores. “The dude is like a train” said Utah St linebacker N. Gallagher. “The guy just hits you in the mouth. And when you think he’s done, he hits you again.”

Lippincott out runs the Utah St defense

“They just wear a defense down” said Utah State’s head coach. “You can load up to stop Lipp, but what good is that going to do you when you have a Quarterback like Kaepernick who will just pick you apart in the air? They're deadly on offense”

Nevada's quarterback, Kaepernick, shows off his arm strength by throwing a touchdown off his back foot

While Nevada’s offense continues to draw the highlight reels and autographs, its been their defense that has turned this team into a WAC contender. “After giving up half of Nevada in the first two games of the year, they’ve really come on strong.” Said Nevada’s head coach. “Those first two games are my fault, we tried to switch to a 4-2-5 over the summer and Notre Dame and Alabama exposed us. We got back to the basics and I have to give it to them, they are just as dominate as our offense right now.”

    <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZSQ00vuaAnw&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZSQ00vuaAnw&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>

Nevada's I. Frey runs past his block and puts the hurt on Utah St's quarterback

The scariest thing for Nevada was late in the second half when quarterback Kaepernick was slow to get up after one play. But according to injury reports after the game it appears to be minimal. Next up for Nevada is homecoming where they play visiting WAC foe Idaho who ranks #117 in total defense. If I were a betting man, I would be betting the over in this one….

Good stuff! Seems like everywhere Nevada plays the scenery is always nice looking. Nevada's stadium looks cool too with that big, huge media area or whatever it's called.

    Nevada toys with Idaho 70-23

Reno, NV – 1-905-672-1658! People around the country might think that’s the number to a call girl service in Reno, but if you look closer, you’ll see something even more exciting. Lets break it down: 1- The number of Kickoffs returned for a touchdown. 905- The number of Total yards Nevada racked up. 672 – The number of total offensive yards Nevada came away with. And 1658- the number of minutes and seconds Nevada was able to hold onto the ball while dominating Idaho.

Everyone got in on the action tonight. It started out with a wide open air attack featuring QB C. Kaepernick (295 yards 3TDs in the air) and M. McCoy (100 yards reciving).

After Nevada opened up Idaho’s defense with the air game SR Running back and Mr Everything, Luke Lippincott, gashed what remained of Idaho’s defense for 281 yards and 3TD’s.

But don’t forget the defense. As the Nevada coach said last week, they are playing as well if not better than the offense right now.

They shut Idaho down for a majority of the game. Idaho’s lone bright spot came on a 99 yard TD as Nevada went for broke trying to add a safety to their resume.

    NEVADA BIG BOARD

    UPDATED

Nevada Had a HUGE weekend on the recruting trail picking up 4 commitments.

    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Column 5 Column 6 Column 7 Column 8 Column 9
Name Pos State Prestige Pos. Rank Height Weight Top 3 Status
Brian Mitchell OLB- Run Stopper CA 3 40 5'11 223 Nevada, Arizona, Cal Hard-Nev
Tony Harris SS- Hard Hitter VA 2 #76 6'4 212 Nevada, Marshall, Utah State Hard-Nev
Maurice Perry FS-Hard Hitter CA 2 #81 6'2 197 Nevada, Colorado St, Stanford Hard Nev
    Connor Hall FB-Balanced CA 2 #10 6'0 202 Nevada, San Diego St, Kansas Hard-Nev

Mitchell the lone 3 star of the group is a beast on film. His speed and hard hitting make up for his 5'11 frame. Watch for Mitchell to make an instant impact next year as a freshman.

Connor Hall from Palm Springs California fills a much needed full back roll in the Nevada Offense for next year. Connors blazing speed and ability to catch the ball out of the backfield made him one of the most recruited fullbacks in the country. The #10th best fullback in the country said he cant wait to get into the Silver and Blue and help the Pack in any way he can.

Tony Harris is a tall 6'4 212lb hard hitting SS. His size alone makes recievers fear coming over the middle. His speed is a little lacking but hopefully that is something the coaches can work on over the summer.

Maurice Perry from Costa Mesa, CA should come in and compete right away for playing time. His 6'2 frame and his ability to stay with the fastest of wide recievers make him a wanted man on this poor Nevada secondary

    Tricked – And No Treats

Hawaii destroys Nevada on Halloween 55-35, Ends Nevada's win streak

Hawaii player tosses the ball after scoring on a 76 yard TD

Reno, NV – One week after Nevada put up 70 vs Idaho, Hawaii comes into Reno on Halloween and smacks the Wolf Pack up and down the field. “We couldn’t do anything right.†Said Nevada's head coach. “Every time we had a chance to get back in the ball game we did something stupid like running into the kicker to give them a fresh set of downs. We got caught up in reading our press clippings from last week. Well I’m going to make sure we have plenty of press clipping in the locker room this week…hows about 594 PASSING YARDS for a press clipping……I gotta go before I say something is shouldn’t…â€ÂÂ.

As the head coach stormed off into the locker room you almost felt bad for the players that awaited his wrath. But then you remembered that garbage of a game and the 4 hours you just spent watching it and you realize, â€ÂÂhey coach, you need any help?â€ÂÂ

76 yard TD pass by Hawaii's Alexander

The game started off with a bang for Hawaii. Four straight touchdowns before Nevada knew what hit them. Mostly by air but Hawaii actually got the ball rolling on the ground with this sick run.

Hawaii's running back trucks a Nevada defender

Nevada was able to put a band-aid on the bleeding before the half, getting a TD out of Lippincott, only to see Alexander toss one more TD before the halftime show started.

Hawaii's Alexander tosses another TD, this time into coverage

Coach must have said something to wake of the offense as Lippincott ran for 2 scores to start the third quarter, but any excitement was halted when Nevada was flagged on a running into the kicker penalty on a missed field goal, giving Hawaii a fresh set of downs and an eventual 7 points.

    Lone Nevada highlight

Hawaii finished off the Wolf Pack by scoring two more TDs and a field goal in the 4th to seal the deal. When the dust settled, Hawaii had put up more than 594 yards in the air and 6 touchdown passes on their way to 766 total yards.
