All players 85 or above OVR (rookies, restricted free agents, regular free agents) have to be given a 40% Signing Bonus of their total salary.

    Example:

    Player A wants 10M for a 3 year contract. SB = 10 * .4 = 4M

    Salary: 10M
    SB: 4M

    Total contract: 14M

I agree it should effect RFA's too.

But I also think it sucks cause I wanted to trade some of my RFAs, heh.

This should make people think about trading a bit more - especially sign & trade deals.

Would a sign and trade deal not instantly count the guaranteed part as a cap hit?

Indeed it would. This helps increase the FA bidding pool, and discourage a lot of sign & trade deals.

Horse manure your telling me for having a great FB I gotta pay 40% of his salary to a bonus?! Lol really?! Come on now.................for the positions of FB, P, K I don't believe this 40% should apply just my thoughts.

I also do not think it should apply for older players (such as a 34-yr old 89 OVR on the decline...being forced to pay a 40% bonus would require overpaying these older players tremendously IMO).

I disagree. Generally when you get an older player like that their contracts dont last more then a year or two. A player like that can be a huge roll player for a season or two before he retires.

Rule is staying how it is unless Shaun Mason says otherwise.

Shaun Mason, even tho I paid it for my FB this year, what are your thoughts on the 40% rule not apply to K/P/FB

Contracts for FB/K/P shouldn't be that big, so giving 40% of salary for those positions shouldnt hurt too much

It isn't an additional 40%, it's 40% of the contract. The really good guys get bonus money, even those positions.

You tell that to Janikowski and Lechler and Marcel Reece had a pretty big deal for a FB.

Perhaps they are high for the position, but the better the player in that position the higher the salary. Reece takes up approximately 2 million of your salary cap per year which isnt too bad, jani seems to be odd being above 2 million to under 2 mill than back over 3 mill, but no bonus money there ..Lechler has a pretty pricey contract, but this is the contract that he has in real life i believe.

It just sucks that the Raiders have a ton of bad contracts on their team which makes it hard to manage the cap with new contracts.
