Sean Payton suspended 1 year without pay, Mickey Loomis suspended 8 games and $500k fine, Gregg Williams supended indefinitely, Saints fined $500k, forfeit 2012 2nd round pick and 2013 2nd round pick (I think)...

    Thoughts????

Thats ridiculous. Thats the NFL trying to make an example out of the Saints for something many other teams do. Sean Peyton suspended the whole year is just fucking idiotic imo.

Gregg Williams should be charged with assault. Too light for him....

Also...the Redskins should have to forfeit their 1st rounder for their involvement.

    Assault? Come on.

I 100% agree. Show me one hit that you can state "Wow, that was clearly with the intentions to hurt / injure". I'm not denying they had a bounty scheme going, but there was never a case where you can say Nola plays dirty or they had some plentiful amount of injuries to their opponents due to bad tackles etc.

New England was caught cheating red handed (and have yet to win anything significant since), and they lose one pick? You suspend 2 coaches and a GM and take away two picks for this? The NFL is such a bunch of pussies now.

Not to mention the NFL also suspended assistant head coach Joe Vitt (who was supposed to take over as they expected Payton to get suspended) for 6 games as well. Fucking ridiculous.

If it isn't a big deal, why did Payton allegedly deny its existence and lie to the nfl?

I didnt say it wasnt a big deal, I just dont think it warrants killing a franchise. Especially the season the Super Bowl is hosted in said franchises city. You wanna take some draft picks? Fine, you can have 'em, but to suspend our GM (especially with Drew still not under contract [dont get me started]), Assistant Head Coach, and Head Coach all for significant time is ridiculous. Not to mention Williams who many are saying he'll never be allowed back in the NFL again. This shit is insane. Did it warrant action? Sure, but this is WAY overboard.

Yeah...I would probably feel the same way if it happened to my favorite team.

It will cost Payton 8m. Ouch....

With all this talk about player safety, and all the lawsuits the NFL is facing/will face from dealing with concussions and other things dealing with player safety, it really can't be a surprise that Goodell was going to set an example here

How many roughing the passer penalties did they have in that game?

He and Kurt Warner both have said publicly they didnt feel like there was anything wrong with the hits they were taking that year in the playoffs from the Saints.

Lets be honest..they shouldn't have lied about it. If they don't lie, then they don't get this harsh a penalty.

Own your mistakes and move on..

I actually think its funny..whats even funnier is Drew Brees commenting on twitter about it..

    Drew Brees's Tweet:

    "Drew Brees@drewbrees
I am speechless. Sean Payton is a great man, coach, and mentor. The best there is. I need to hear an explanation for this punishment"

Not disagreeing, just linking for KnightNoles.

I guess my only explanation is that he doesnt understand the length. Everyone expected Payton to get suspended, just not for a whole season.

I don't know if it was dumb tweet, Brees knows the man better then us.. I think at least he thinks he does, yea he lied but to what extent? We don't know everything that went on in meetings. Brees just wants more of an explanation and I'm sure he will find one out more personally then publicly...

All that's been said is they asked Williams on numerous occassions and he denied it. Then after the fourth attempt to get the truth he admitted it.

Ultimately, the Head Coach is responsible as he is the one guiding the ship.
For Brees to say anything is ignorant. If it wasnt going to affect him would he say anything?!
