After an abysmal 1-7 start the former owners of the San Francisco 49ers put the team up for sale and it was quickly purchased by one Mark Richt (Not that one, its pronounced Mark Rich-Tea). Richt is a former player and feels like he can get this team turned around in one or two seasons and compete for division titles and eventually super bowls.

Upon taking over Richt first met with the coaching staff , front office and a few of the players to assess where the team was at and what the direction should be going forward. He quickly realized that there was a ton of work to be done. Lackluster drafting (previous staff didn't even have the expert scout package) in the past few seasons and questionable contracts have left the team in a bit of a quandry. There wont be that much cap space next offseason so a quick fix in Free Agency isn't looking like a viable path . The 49ers will have to build through the draft and perhaps shed some of their high end talent in the prime of their careers in exchange for future pick considerations. Richt wants to tear down the team to the studs in certain areas (that wont take much as there isn't much to tear down).

On offense , Richt needs to find a play maker there simply is not a single player on the field right now that the defense should be afraid of. Aging washing up wide outs, a QB in Ryan Tannenhill that never lived up to his potential, a worn down Carlos Hyde and Shane Vereen and at TE a middle of the road Vance MacDonald and an old Vernon Davis. Not much to be excited about offensively.

On Defense, Richt has a little more to work with. He immediately decided to scrap the 3-4 in favor of the 4-3. The 49ers simply don't have the horses at LB to run a 3-4 with speed and precision like it takes , so we can move some of the rush olb's to DE and our strong DE's to DT and turn that into a strength that we can build upon. We now have a young athletic line. Richt will look to add some LBs and DBs to improve the defense even more .

    LE Deforest Buckner to RE
    RE Arik Armstead to DT
    ROLB Aaron Lynch to LE
    MLB Carl Bradford to LOLB
    ROLB Elvis Dumervil to RE

A 1-7 start has the team behind the 8 ball but its been made clear to everyone in the locker room and to the current coaching staff that they are playing for their jobs. The rest of this season is an audition for next season.

See some life ignited back into San Fran, been a mess since Harbaugh days.
