Vikings D Stifles Falcons; Head to NFC Championship for Rematch with Skins

Minneapolis, MN - A battle of heavyweights in the NFC, Atlanta & Minnesota would meet up in the divisional round of the playoffs for the second straight season. Last year, Minnesota came away with the victory after an epic 4th quarter collapse by QB Matt Ryan. The stage was set for Ryan to redeem himself, but the Viking D had other plans...

The game started with a 3 and out by the Falcons, and QB Tony Romo would find WR Percy Harvin in the end zone for the early 7 point lead. The Falcons would respond however as HB Jahvid Best would put together a highlight-reel 59-yard TD run that included at least 2 broken tackles. On the ensuing kickoff, Pro Bowl kick returner Percy Harvin would do what he does best - return the kickoff 101 yards to paydirt. Score after 1 quarter -14-7 in favor of MN.

The Falcons would respond in the second quarter, although mostly via the running game as the Viking D was committed to stopping the Falcons prolific passing attack. Atlanta's lone bright spot in the passing game came early in the 2nd quarter - a TD pass from Ryan to Roddy White to tie the score at 14. The Vikings would tack on two more FG's in the half. Score at halftime - 20-14 in favor of MN.

The story of the second half was the Viking defense, as they completely shut down the Falcons passing attack. QB Matt Ryan ended the day 7 of 17 for just 72 yards; 1 TD & 3 INTs. He was benched late in the 4th quarter in favor of Kevin Kolb, who would throw 2 INTs of his own. The Falcon D kept them in the game until early in the 4th quarter, as they did what they came to do - shut down AP. Peterson struggled to find running room, and finished the day with a meager 79 yards on 25 attempts. LOLB Chad Greenway was all over the field, and would take home Player of the Game honors with his 3 Interceptions on the day.

    Final Score:
    Minnesota: 34
    Atlanta: 14

    Great game Hokie Effect
