    Anaheim Ducks 2010-11 Season
    [IMG]
    Season Preview:
Excitement was in the air around Anaheim as hockey season was right around the corner. After a disappointing 09-10 season in which the team did not make the playoffs for the first time since the 04-05 lockout, the Ducks were ready to put their 39-32-11 record in the past and get geared up for the start of this season. However, many around the Ducks front office seemed to have lost confidence in this team, as this year's GM contract stated that the team would be "happy" with 35 wins this year.
Here are the questions that surround the Ducks heading into this season:
1)Could the Ducks exceed expectations and push for a playoff spot?
2)What would the Ducks do with their lack of decent defensive players, especially after Scott Neidermeyer decided to call it quits on his 19 year career this past summer?
3)Could the front-line of Perry, Getzlaf, and Ryan play up to their potential and 'will' this team to some wins?
This certainly is looking like one of the more interesting seasons in the Ducks recent history. Stay tuned to see if the team can band together and be a force in the Pacific, or if they will fall flat on their faces!

    Preseason News & Events:
-The Ducks were able to strike a deal early with free agent center Patrick O'Sullivan in a 2 year deal worth $1.80 million per year. With Saiku Koivu getting up there in age (35) and Chipchura really not living up to expectations, O'Sullivan will be a great addition to this team. Look for Patrick to take Koivu's spot on the 2nd line and provide some much needed depth to the center position.
-The Ducks continue to work the phone lines for a defense-man they can plug in alongside Lubomir Visnovsky (83 ovr). The Ducks feel like James Wisniewski, while being a decent player, could be better used as a part of the 2nd or 3rd defensive pairing, in order to give the defense more of a 'complete' feel, with all lines being able to step in inter-changeably without a big drop talent wise.
-After going 2-2 in the preseason, the boss man had these words to say:
"I'll be happily surprised if you make the playoffs, but won't be angry if you don't". Clearly the man upstairs still has his hesitations with this team, let's hope we can fix that real quick!
-The season schedule has come out, and the Ducks start on the road for their first three games as they face off against the Red Wings, Preds, and Blues.

Anaheim lose in OT-thriller Against Red Wings

    Summary:
HOCKEY SEASON HAS STARTED!! Wow what a game this turned out to be for the neutral as the Ducks ended up losing 4-3 in OT. Corey Perry got this party started 1:51 into the game when he picked up a missed Visnovsky shot and buried it into the top corner of the goal, leaving Jimmy Howard with no chance. However, Detroit would tie it up as they went on the power-play, which paid off immediately as they won the faceoff and Brad Stuart shot a rocket from the blue-line to level up the game 1-1 after 1 period (off a joffrey lupul 2 min penalty for tripping)
Period 2 was scoreless so onto the 3rd we went. Ryan Getzlaf gave the Ducks the lead once again, as he roofed one hell of a shot past Stuart from an almost impossible angle to give the Ducks the lead at 2-1 3:35 into the 3rd. However, the Red Wings once again tied it up, as Drew Miller would finish off a nice move; 2-2 7:24 into the 3rd. The game looked like it was heading into OT, before disaster struck as Jonas Hiller's loose pass was picked off by Tomas Holmstrom, who made no mistake beating Hiller, and with 2:41 left in the game, it looked like the Ducks would go home empty handed. The Duck cause was compounded when Getzlaf was penalized for a ridiculous checking from behind call at the 18:45 mark. Down a goal, and now a man, and with 1:15 left in the game, the Ducks needed a miracle...which is EXACTLY what they got, as Saiku Koivu was able to win the ensuing faceoff, and race past the Red Wing defense before beating Howard on a beautiful solo effort. With 40 seconds left in the game the Ducks were able to get a shortie, and send this one into OT!!
After having to survive the first 45 seconds in a 4vs3 situation, the Ducks felt like they were starting to take control of the game as they were unlucky to get the win when a Getzlaf shot cannoned off the post. With 1:23 left in OT though, disaster struck as Valtteri Filppula raced past the defense and put on a nifty move before beating Hiller on the backhand. The crowd went bananas, the Ducks were in agony, and the game was over folks!! What a way to start the season...hopefully the Ducks can rebound from this one as they travel to Nashville to take on the Preds in 24 hours from now.

    Analysis:
That is more like it! After yesterday's OT loss in Detroit, it was important that the team didn't come out flat today against a decent looking Nashville team, and they certainly did not, as they took control of every aspect in this game. Free Agent signing, Patrick O' Sullivan added 2 assists in this one to register his first points as a Duck as a pregame change in offensive lines really seemed to work wonders in this game. Jason Blake had started on the 1st line against Detroit, but dropping him to the 2nd line and bringing in Bobby Ryan alongside Getzlaf and Perry really seemed to work wonders as that top line was responsible for 3 of the 5 goals tonight. The team now heads to St. Louis to take on the Blues in two days time.

    Period 3:
    N/A
    OT:
St. Louis Goal: Andy McDonald (D. Backes, B. Jackman) 3:14

    Analysis:
This one is a tough loss to swallow. We felt like we dominated the game and were really unlucky not to end it in regulation, and to lose our 2nd OT game in our first 3 games of the year stings. I guess 4 points on this 3 game away trip to start the season is not that bad, but we certainly felt like we let 1 point slip by our finger-tips. It was no surprise that it ended up being an ex-Duck in McDonald who scored the goal, he has been torching us ever since he was traded to St. Louis. Oh well, onto the next one from here as we FINALLY get our home opener two days from now agaisnt the Canucks.

*Team beat Vancouver 3-1, but while the stats were being reported to the Duck headquarters there was a power outage and all specifics were lost*

Getzlaf was able to score (2) goals in the win while defender Wisniewski continues to prove his doubters wrong early on, scoring a goal and registering an assist in the win!!

Ducks get ready to host the Thrashers in two days time.

    Analysis:
This game was real close in the 1st period, but Selanne's goal really seemed to create a big gap between the two teams as Anaheim quickly doubled their lead less than a minute into the 2nd. After that it was really pure domination from the Ducks until the fight seemed to energize the Thrashers, even though it was Selanne who delivered the knock out blow in that one. This was one of the more physical games we had, and the team really stood up and seemed to enjoy it, living up to the Duck tradition of being 'tough' and 'gritty'.
    Bobby Ryan's 2nd goal

nice job so far! I think I am gonna move up from Pro too, I just beat the Kings 6-0 and it felt way too easy. I think after a couple games you really get a feel for your team and which line is out there and stuff and then you really start scoring at will. I will turn up the difficulty and let ya know what happens to me lol Maybe you might do it after a few more games too, you are doing good!

Yea..games are still tough at the moment but hey, at least we aren't losing in regulation! lol..if i get to the point where i feel it's getting a little too easy collecting points against the CPU then imma bump up the difficulty. It really is no fun to me when games are blowouts anyways.
