2012 NHL Hockey Playoffs Pool: Introduction: This is a pool that I have run for several years and I want to invite all of TSO to participate. It's a fun pool that combines a bit of fantasy hockey with pick 'em and it's very appropriate for the playoffs. Step 1: Fill Out Your Bracket Eastern Conference: (1)New York Rangers vs (8)Ottawa Senators (2)Boston Bruins vs (7)Washington Capitals (3)Florida Panthers vs (6)New Jersey Devils (4)Pittsburgh Penguins vs (5)Philadelphia Flyers Western Conference: (1)Vancouver Canucks vs (8)Los Angeles Kings (2)St. Louis Blues vs (7)San Jose Sharks (3)Phoenix Coyotes vs (6)Chicago Blackhawks (4)Nashville Predators vs (5)Detroit Red Wings Your objective is to now successfully fill out the bracket. Begin by selecting the winners of the first four series in each conference. In the NHL Playoffs, unique to it alone is that after the first round the teams are reseeded. You will need to account for this reseeding in your selections. Here is an example: Let's say I select (1)Boston, (2)Washington (5) Carolina and (6)Pittsburgh. Then in the next round I would have Boston playing Pittsburgh and Washington playing Carolina. In other words the highest seeded team(the lowest value) will play the lowest seeded team(the highest value). In addition to selecting each of the winners, you are to attempt to predict the number of games in each series will last. IF you are correct, you will earn an additional point to your score. Scoring: Part 1 Scoring: Each Correct Conference Quarterfinals Series Prediction[2 pts] [16 max] Each Correct Conference Semifinals Series Prediction[4 pts] [16 max] Each Correct Conference Finals Series Prediction[8 pts] [16 max] Correct Stanley Cup Prediction[16 pts] [16 max] Total Possible: 64 points Step 2: Select your Team Your team: LW: RW: C: D: D: G: Enforcer: Rules for your team: 1. You may only select ONE player from each team. In other words, your team needs to consist of 7 different players from 7 different teams. 2. Your player at each position must be listed as such on ESPN. In other words you must have a LW as your LW. 3. Once you make your selections, your team is final. You will not be repicking your team throughout the tournament. Scoring: Position Players: -1 point for each point(goal, assist) -You will also either gain or lose points based on each player’s +/- Rating. This value is cut in half, rounded down. Goaltenders: -1 point per win -2 point bonus per shutout Enforcer: -You will gain points based on the number of penalty minutes divided by 3, rounded down. Part 3: Tiebreakers Tiebreaker 1: Number of Goals scored in the Stanley Cup Finals[ALL GAMES] Tiebreaker 2: Number of Goals scored by the Eastern Conference Team in the Stanley Cup Finals Tiebreaker 3: Number of Goals scored by the Western Conference Team in the Stanley Cup Finals All Entries for the NHL Hockey Playoffs Pool must be completed by the night of the first game of the NHL Playoffs which I believe is Wednesday, April 11th. If you have any questions about how the pool works, let me know. Good Luck! -SpaceDominatora

Then again, it's been 12 years so whats another day or two.
Yeah, good luck to your Panthers. I always like to see new teams do well, but unfortunately they never seem to perform very well the first time they get back into the playoffs. They also have the difficulty of dealing with Brodeur in his retirement year as well. As for tagging, yeah... Probably makes the most sense. I almost should tag the PS3 guys too.
This is actually the first time Florida's made it "back" into the playoffs, they went from 96-2000 every year, and haven't since, but whatever, lol. I think something like 16 of the 20 players dressed for their last game weren't on the team last season, so it's been virtually a completely new team this year, one with a lot of playoff experience, so we'll see if they can flip the switch. And Brodeur hasn't won a playoff series in like 5 years, their success is going to come from the offense, which just feels weird for a NJ team, lol. Whether its 4 games or 24 though, I'm just happy to see playoff hockey. You have no idea how long 12 years can feel...
Final reminder. Let's get these picks in. Read the first post for full details. I've also invited the PS3 folks to participate. Final results(Sorry about the delay): 1. Shadowassassin - 59 2. Crumb - 48 3. Cheez - 43 4. Selvy - 25 The only minor issue is that shadow didn't exactly follow my rules for one player from each team. But... he did win by 11 points anyways, nor am I going to argue about it this far out. Congrats to Shadow for the win! Selvy9 ; Cheez ; Shadowassassin39
