The San Diego Chargers have won two straight as they split the season series with the L.A. Raiders. The Chargers front office made headlines in Week 4 when they benched veteran QB Philip Rivers for second year man Kyle Nichols. Week 5 saw the Bolts travel to L.A. to take on the Raiders for their second meeting of the season and the gamble on Nichols paid off again as the Chargers came out of hostile territory with a 31-21 victory. The Raiders won the toss and elected to receive and Jacoby Ford would start the game off strong for L.A. returning the opening kickoff 100yds for the TD. The Chargers refused to be out done as Joe Adams took a chance deep in the end zone and returned the next kick 101yds down to the 6yd line setting up a 6yd TD pass to Sidney Rice tying the game at 7 less than 1 minute into the game. The Chargers defense would get a huge boost from Rey Maualuga when he picked off Terrelle Pryor's first pass attempt of the game for his first of two total INTs in the game. Nick Novak nailed a 37yd FG to give the Bolts a 10-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Chargers took a 10 point lead early in the 2nd when Nichols found Greg Little for a 12yd TD. The remainder of the 2nd quarter would be controlled by the defenses until just inside the 2:00 mark when Mark Ingram powered his way into the end zone giving the Chargers a 24-7 lead. The Raiders refused to quit as Terrelle Pryor led a beautiful two minute offense capped off with a 19yd TD pass to Mike Thomas bringing the score to 24-14 at halftime. The second half started off strong for the Raiders as their defense managed to keep San Diego out of the end zone for the entire 3rd quarter. The play of the game came midway thru the 3rd as Darren McFadden found a hole in the Chargers defense on a 51yd TD run that cut the Chargers lead to just a FG. The Raiders looked to have the momentum for the second half when Tracy Porter scooped up a loose ball on a pass that seemed to be picked off in the end zone but was later ruled as a fumble by Kyle Nichols. Two huge plays for the Chargers would cap off their night. A 16yd TD pass to Keenan Allen gave the Bolts a 31-21 lead and a crucial INT by Steve Williams helped the Chargers capture their second win in a row improving their record to 2-3 and boosting them to 2nd place in the AFC West behind the 4-1 Broncos.
