Buckeyes Recruiting Class Coming Into Form
The Ohio State Buckeyes are likely on their way to the national championship game after beating TCU in the B1G Championship at The Rose Bowl, but the coaches also have an eye on the future with a fantastic recruiting class in the fold. Here's a look at the underclassmen currently pledged to the Scarlet & Grey.

    HB #4 Elijah Walker (90 speed // 88 accel // 86 juke // 86 Truck) :5stars:
    ATH #8 Kareem Carter (85 speed // 94 accel // 91 vision // 88 stiff arm) :5stars:
    T #4 Zach Johnson (93 accel // 85 pass block // 84 impact block) :4stars:
    ATH #19 Vinnie Paul (92 speed // 92 accel // 89 elusiveness) :4stars:
    QB #8 Jason Weaver (84 speed // 77 accel // 86 thp // 78 accuracy) :4stars:
    TE #4 Irvin Smith (80 route running // 79 impact block) :4stars:
    T #6 Brandon Hawkins (77 rblk // 77 pblk // 79 impact block) :4stars:
    T #1 John Harrison (84 rblk // 84 pblk // 84 impact block) :5stars:

The Offensive class is running-back heavy for the Buckeyes, with athlete Kareem Carter projected to play as a power back for Ohio State. The coaches like Carter as a short-yardage and goal line running back, and overtime they think that he can develop his top end speed to become more of an every down player. Carter will likely redshirt, but that won't be the case for Elijah Walker. The fourth-ranked back in the nation will come in a compete with a starting spot, and there will be huge shoes to fill with Heisman winner Ezekiel Elliot off to the NFL. Vinnie Paul also has running back qualities, but the Buckeyes will likely use him more as an H-back - in the mold of Braxton Miller and Curtis Samuel. All the skill players will benefit from having Zach Johnson in the fold. At 6'5, 325 lbs Johnson projects well as a tackle or guard, and with 3-to-4 offensive linemen departing after this season, Johnson will compete for a spot in the two deep from day one, and could even work his way into a starting role.

    FS #2 A.J. Wade (95 speed // 97 accel // 82 tackle) :4stars:
    ATH #25 Stepfan Mayfield (96 speed // 95 accel // 81 man coverage // 80 zone coverage) :4stars:
    DT #14 Devin Bryan (81 tackle // 80 strength) :4stars:
    FS #7 Najee Warrior (92 speed // 91 accel // 85 hit power // 80 tackle) :4stars:
    P #1 Al McIntire (93 kick power // 79 kick accuracy) :3stars:

The biggest priority for Ohio State this offseason was shoring up the defensive backfield. Although the Buckeyes have plenty of talent in the secondary, depth is a concern moving forward. That won't be the case anymore, now that Meyer has snagged three blue-chip prospects. The true gem of this class is athlete Stepfan Mayfield, a Texas native that starred on both sides of the football at the highest level in high school. There is a chance that the Buckeyes use Mayfield in a similar capacity, at least early on. Meyer's belief is that the best 11 players should be on the field at all times, regardless of defined "positions." It's hard to make an argument that Mayfield shouldn't on the field, at least occasionally, immediately for the Buckeyes. Ideally, the coaches believe that the speedster will find a home at cornerback, but Mayfield could be the reincarnation of Chris Gamble for the Scarlet and Grey.

Joining Mayfield in the secondary is another elite Athlete in A.J. Wade. Ohio State was able to pluck Wade out of Georgia, and there is a good chance that he also sees significant playing time as a true freshmen. Ohio State is fairly stacked at safety, with Vonn Bell possibly returning - and Tyvis Powell and Erick Smith also in the fold. But the Buckeyes rotated Smith in behind Powell and Bell occasionally this season, and Wade could factor in similarly if Bell decides to turn pro.
