The Niners have opened up their season 2-0, both against NFC North playoff teams from a year ago in the Packers and Lions. But their coach says they still have a lot of work to do to get better and try to stay atop this tough NFC West Division: Coach Evans, "I thought our play in Green Bay was pretty good, really efficient with a good balance of run/pass, but our defense only created 1 turnover and we turned it over twice. Against Detroit, our defense made it so our offense really didn't have to work, we only threw 6 passes and completed 5 of them with 2 going for TD's. The problem was that our running game was lacking sustainability and we had too many penalties on long plays, I think we had 5 offensive holding calls, we really have to work on that area if we want to keep winning."

The 49ers travel to Minnesota to take on coach controllerabuser and star running back Adrian Peterson in week 3.

The Niners lost yesterday to the Minnesota Vikings, 23-20, because they couldn't hold onto a 10 point lead and fumbled a kickoff return with 40 seconds remaining to give the Vikings a FG try to win the game. When asked about the kickoff return, Coach Coug replied, "It should never have come down to that anyway, we had opportunities but didn't capitalize. Our defense struggled getting off the field on 3rd downs and with containing the outside runs of Adrian Peterson. We will be working on some of these areas in practice this week and will have a tough matchup with the Jets and cadepetty247 coming up in week 4, so we have to put our mistakes behind us yet still learn from them."

The 49ers tried to resign starting FS Dashon Goldson and DT Isaac Sopoaga, but got some bad advice from their front office and got their offers rejected. Let's hope that this doesn't affect their play while they are on the road in New York.

49ers take care of business at home against the Bills to move to 4-1 on the season and await their week 6 battle against the Giants in a rematch of last year's NFC Championship game.

In other news, the 49ers resigned Jean-Francois, but it looks like Sopoaga and Goldson want to test the free agency market at season's end, hopefully this doesn't affect the team's chemistry.

Hours before the time when the 49ers were set to take the field against the New York Giants, the 49ers front office and TE Delanie Walker reached agreeable terms on a contract extension. The contract is for 3 years worth $10.5 million overall. This was a big deal to the 49ers who like to run a lot of 2 TE sets, it's nice to have a guy who can run, catch, and block when needed.
The 49ers celebrated by taking it to the Giants in a 37-0 beatdown in which Frank Gore had 4 rushing TD's, but was 1 yard shy of 100 yards rushing.

Up next for the 49ers are the Seattle Seahawks led by Emmdotfrisk

The 49ers beat the Seahawks at home 28-17 in a rain soaked game that featured 11 turnovers, but the Niners have lost OLB Ahmad Brooks for 3 weeks with broken ribs. Some of the younger guys may have to step up in these next couple games.

The 49ers defense has reached an achievement of 35 takeaways this season and 25 interceptions through 7 games. Last year's defense had a total of 38 takeaways at season's end, if the 49ers keep it up, they will surely pass that mark.

In week 10, the Niners beat their Division foe St Louis Rams at home 28-17, and received word after the game that OLB Ahmad Brooks would be healthy enough to return for their week 11 matchup with the Bears on Monday Night Football!

49ers finish strong with a 13-3 record for the second straight year, take the NFC West, and guarantee themselves at worst a #2 seed in the NFC Playoffs.
The best news for the 49ers wasn't that they beat their division rivals in the last 2 weeks to clinch a 1st round bye and at least 1 home playoff game, but that the bye week will actually give Frank Gore and NaVorro Bowman enough time to heal up and be back on the field for the playoffs.

After a disappointing opening round loss to the Saints at home in the playoffs, the Niners are back and ready to kickoff the new season and defend their NFC West title! The Niners lost Sopoaga in Free Agency and Leonard Davis retired, but the Niners addressed their need positions in the draft.
1st Round pick - DT Hansen Wood - This kid will start right away and fill in nicely for Sopoaga, he is very strong, really smart for a rookie, and a really quick learner. He needs to work on shedding blockers to be that key 2-gap player we need him to be, and work on some moves to get to the QB.
Meet the rest of the 49ers draft class: WR Adam Jones, RB Harold Barnes, CB Jamal Williams, QB Connor Robinson, WR Brandon Harris, TE Chase Scroggins, RG Ishaq Lawrence, DT Brennan Palmer, RE Josh Ramsey, CB Cordaveous Lyons, and FS Bryson Layton

The Niners move to 2-0 on the season after beating the Browns in Cleveland behind a great defensive effort. Hansen Wood tore an abdominal muscle, however, and will be sidelined for 5 weeks.

    Rookie Impacts:
    Jamal Williams - 2 INT
Adam Jones - 3 catches for 66 yards
    Harold Barnes - 2 carries -2 yards

San Francisco moves to 3-0 after thumping the New York Giants 35-7 on a rainy Sunday afternoon at The Stick. Next up for the 49ers are the Ravens.

    Rookies:
Adam Jones - 3 catches for 48 yards 1 TD
Harold Barnes - 4 carries for 20 yards
Jamal Williams played limited snaps, didn't make any highlight reel plays, but was solid.
Brennan Palmer got in at NT for some snaps and played relatively well
Hansen Wood is still recovering from his injury

The 49ers are currently 6-0 after beating the Steelers last week. Here are the rookie performances on the year so far:

    RB Harold Barnes - 25 carries for 171 yards 4 TD's, 3 catches for 39 yards
WR Adam Jones - 10 catches for 172 yards 1 TD
DT Hansen Wood - 3 tackles, 1 sack, 1 TFL, 1 fumble recovery
    CB - Jamal Williams - 6 tackles, 3 INT's, 1 TFL

Both Jamal Williams and Brandon Harris have factored into the return game as well, with Harris doing the kick returns and Williams taking the punt returns.

Jamal Williams is currently out for 5 weeks with a broken collarbone, however, and will slow his progress and potential to become Defensive ROY as it was already a bit of a long shot.

    Justin Smith Retires
The hardest working player on the team and the 49ers best defensive lineman has decided to hang it up. The 49ers are sad to see him go and wish him the best in whatever he decides to do next, the 49ers have offered him a front office job or a coaching position, but the Niners feel like he is going to a ranch in Oklahoma somewhere never to be seen again.
Coach Coug had this to say, "Justin was a great player and teammate, he sacrificed everything for us and I wish we could have given him a ring, but that one's on me."
