    2018 Penn State Team Preview

STATE COLLEGE - The Penn State football team took the field this week to commence their fall practice under the shadow of Mt. Nittany. Energy on campus is high as fans and players alike are eager for the start of the 2018 season. Having gone a combined 20-6 the past two seasons, this team is ready to fight their way to the next eschelon of success. "Man, last year was a sort of roller coaster ride. We underacheived in our non-conference schedule," said Junior HB Jericho Miller. "That blowout loss to Oregon at home was tough. And then turning around and losing to K State in the final minute. We were at a serious low after that. But some guys stepped up in the locker room and we decided as a group that we were better than that." Following that 2-2 start, which saw the team nearly dip out of the top 25, the squad would go on a six game win streak.

"We were really amped up heading into Madison after that win streak." Explained Senior safety Edmund Larkin. "We knew the Badgers would be a different kind of difficult. We gave them all we had, but ended up a yard short." Larkin is referring to the final minute of play, when on 4th and 7 from the Badgers 8 yard line, down by a touchdown, Coach Jbek elected to hand the ball off to Jericho Miller, who was stuffed by a gang of Wisky 'backers just short of the sticks, effectively sealing the victory for Glen Cieske 's undefeated squad. "That was rough."
Larkin is back, and so is a majority of the 2017 squad. They have some scores to settle, and will face one of the toughest schedules in the country. The first game of the season might be the most compelling of them all. The Nittany lions will traveling to Denver for a exhibition contest at Mile High Stadium to face off against title defending Texas A&M. Then the next week against a strong Stanford squad. Both games will be at neutral sites. Much of the seasons success will be determined by that pair of showdowns, and victory will be important to achieve in setting the tone for the rest of the season.
