Hope Springs Eternal in Happy Valley! Penn State is looking forward to the season, the first full season under coach Eyeke. The option offense produced great results which saw Junior QB Bolden leave early and a few key players transfer to Temple. Seniors Curtis Drake and Shawney Kersey return to lead a corp of receivers who will help keep defenses honest and open lanes for the powerful option attack PSU will be bringing this season. Speedy Junior QB Paul Jones will be stepping into full time duty as the option QB, but has already been given the "go ahead" in spring ball to audible any plays coach sends in if 1 on 1 coverage is identified. Coach Eyeke is anticipating a 20passing 20rushing TD season for Jones but says hitting 30 in either of those categories isn't out of the question. The running back stable will consist of seniors Curtis Dukes, Paris Jones and Silas Redd who all look to see more carries than they can handle early in the year. Coach has emphasized that there is no "#1 Back" but gave special praise to Dukes who has bulked up some to help fill the hole left by last year's fullback and top yard gainer Brandon Beachum. The offensive line is anchored by RT Eric Shriver but is relatively young and lacks the depth other offensive positions have. Defensively, the back 7 are very strong with corner Derrick Thomas and safety Malcolm Willis returning and linebackers Carson and Fortt. The linebacker corp has 5 players capable of being all-Big 10 and Coach Eyeke has toyed with running a 2-5-4 defense to get the best players on the field. Should be an exciting year!
