OffseasonFA for Season 1 Starts today

FA Starts today, we'll have four days (ish) of FA.

    3 Notes
    - During the season FAs are for mass injuries, meaning more then 2 inuries at a position or more and you can go into FA and sign a guy. So if you want an FA, make a bid during the offseason FA period
    - You can play your week 1 game after Sunday 6pmest, however the minute you start the game you are done with FA. I will not accept any bids from you, new bids or counter offers.
    - Signing bonuses in this game are a "fee" that you must pay to KEEP the guy out of FA pool. Since by the FA offseason they are already in the FA pool you do not need to pay a signing bonus for FAs, just the wining bid price.

    FA Rules below
Just send me a PM with your bids. In the PM the subject line should read "2010 FA Bids, day-X". The reason you do this is so I can see it's a bid offer, and I won't open it before I do my own FA bids.

If you have questions about offseason FA, put "FA Questions" in the subject line.

    Rules below
2010 "offseason" FA will work like this.

There will be 4 days of FAs. Everyday you'll send in up to 4 offers on the first day and two offers for the next three, and for the first three days I'll post whose in the lead and the offer someone will have to beat to get them. If a FA is posted as having an offer, if he goes 24 hours without a counter, ie the time I post the offer till the time I post the next days offer, he will then be the property of the highest bid.

On the fourth and final day is a silent auction. everyone sends in there final bid for the guys left. The highest bid gets the player.

    EBAY BID
Every day I will post the leaders, the team in the lead can put in a ebay bid. An ebay bid is a bid in which you specify how high you'll go, if all the bids that get sent to me are equal to or less then the ebay bid, then the team with the ebay bid continues to be on top of the FAs wish list, or if it's the final day the the team with the ebay bid wins the FA. Make sure if you have an active ebay bid to resend every day it's active. You can lower your ebay bid, you can also chose not make it active, which means the next guy that bids will now be in the lead.

    OFFER
You can only offer 4 contracts to FAs on the first day and 2 each additional day. An offer constitutes a contract offer to a FA you have yet to make an offer to.

    COUNTER OFFER
You have unlimited Counter offers. A Counter Offer constitutes an offer to a FA that you have already made an offer to.

    SIGNING A FA
If you win he's yours, if you win and go over the salary cap you will be penalized a draft pick, a simmed game, or something else I haven't quite decided and it all depends on whether you went over trying to screw someone out of a guy or it was just poor planning. After you sign the guy you must keep him for at least one season and you must release someone else to get back under the cap.

    RETRACTING AN OFFER
You cannot retract an offer, so you better make sure you want him if you make an offer.

    SUBMISSION OF OFFERS
I'll post a new email for everyone later. Send the offers by Tradition PM, make sure it includes your team, the players name and offer of money and whether it's an ebay bid or regular bid in the actual PM.

FA Day one deadline is Sunday 6pm est.

I'm not sure that im understanding how FA bids will fit with the salary cap spreadsheet. Can someone post a sample bid for "Player X" at position "WR" if he was 27 years old, 81 OVR? I'm just not sure if I'm bidding years and his salary is determined by the spreadsheet or if I'm bidding years and salary (in which case what determines the winner if I bid 3 yrs @ 4$ and another guy bids 2 years @ 6$?). Sorry if this is super simple and I'm making harder than it is.

you bid by Overall and Age

If he was an 81 Ovr WR at 27yrs old then he would get a salary of $4 and you would have to sign him for 4 years. Signing bonus does not apply here as you are not resigning a FA.

(Good (78-85)- 4 dollars, 84-76: Four Year Contract)

Remember $4 is the minimum, you can bid more than that.

Pretty much. Pry better to start lower since we have 4 days to bid. You may get him cheap if nobody else targets him.

Here is how the Free Agency bidding system works (with examples!)

Free agency allows for the following types of offers to be made.

Initial Offer: This is the first offer you make to a free agency. You must offer a salary that meets the min for the player based on the player Position and OVR. The length of the salary that you offer is based on Age and OVR. Since this is a FA offer, there is no signing bonus.

Counter Offer: A counter offer is an offer you make to a player that you made an initial offer too but were out bid by another player. You can make as many counter offers as you want but remember you can only counter if you already made an initial offer.

Ebay Offer: This is a pre-emptive counter offer bid. If you are the leading (or tied as the leading) bidding on a player you can place an Ebay bid. An ebay bid says that you are willing to pay up to the Ebay offer for a player should anyone else try to out bid you on the player (either through a new initial offer or counter offer by another owner.)

Sequence. There are four days of bidding.
Day One: You can do do the following. Make up to 4 Initial Offers on players you want. That is about it.

Day Two: You can do the following. Make up to 2 Initial Offers on players you want. You can place Ebay offers on any of the 4 Initial Offers made on Day One that you are leading or tied for the lead on. You can place Counter Offers for any of the Initial Offers you made on Day One but are not leading (or tied for the lead) on.

Day Three: Same as Day Two. This includes 2 Initial Offers on players you want, Ebay Offers on any players you made Initial Offers during Days One and Two and are leading (or tied) and Counter Offers on any players you made Initial Offers during days One and Two but are loosing.

Day Four: On day Four things turn into silent bids. This means that the person with the highest bid for a player wins that player. If there is a tie the Commish will break it through something like a coin flip I guess? You can make 2 new Initial Offers, Ebay Offers on anyone from Days Three, Two, or One that you are leading (or tied) and Counter Offers for anyone you made Initial Offers on Days Three, Two, and One but are loosing.

    Real World Example:

Day One: 49ers decide that we really need a Center, RG, HB, and P. We have lots of cap space so we aim high! We have four Initial Offers we can make so we send the following to Psycho...

    PM to Psycho
Subject: 2010 Free Agency Bids, Day - 1
    Message:
49ers make the following Initial Offers.
    Initial Offer. P S Paulescu (57 OVR 26 age). Offer $0. Length 1 year.
Initial Offer. HB B Westbrook (83 OVR 30 age). Offer $5. Length 2 years.
Initial Offer. OL S Murphy (74 OVR 27 age). Offer $3. Length 3 years.
Initial Offer. OL K Mawae (84 OVR 39 age). Offer $7. Length 2 years.

Analysis. I am making four initial bids on players I want to add to my team. The first is P S Paulescu. I think I can get him for the initial price of a 57 OVR punter so I offer him $0 contract. Since he is a 57 OVR player under 30 he is signed for 1 year (you have no control over this.)
Second, I offer HB B Westbrook a $5 contract (based on OVR) that runs 2 years (no control over this.) I don't think this bid will hold up but I am testing the market to see if other want him. Maybe I'll get lucky!
Third, I offer RG S Murphy a $3 contract (based on OVR) for 3 years (no control over this). I see there are a lot of guards in the pool so I don't feel I need to offer more to get a decent backup calibur guard.
Fourth, I offer C K Mawae a $7 contract. Since he is 84 OVR he has a min salary demand of $6 but I decide to offer him $7 because he is the top C in FA and I really need a starter for my team. I hope to scare off other owner looking to get him at the min price point. His offer is for 2 years (again no conrtol over this.)

Day Two: On Day Two I can make two new Initial Offers, place Ebay offers on players I'm leading (or tied), and counter offer players I'm loosing. Psycho starts off FA Day Two with a post like...

    HB.
B Westbrook - Texans $7 (interested parties 49ers and Colts)

    OL
    S Murphy - Colts $4 (interested parties 49ers)
    K Mawae - 49ers $7 (interested parties Texans)

    DL
    R Brock - Colts $6

    P
    S Paulescu - 49ers $0

I decide I like R Brock and want to get in on the bidding for him. I also want a MLB to add to my team. I decide Westbrook is too high of a price to pay and don't want to bid anymore for him. I will place an ebay bid on Mawae though and counter offer on Murphy.

I send Psycho a message like this...

    PM to Psycho
Subject: 2010 Free Agency Bids, Day - 2
    Message:
    49ers make the following bids.
Initial Offer. DL R Brock (78 OVR 32 age). Offer $7. Length 2 years.
Initial Offer. MLB DD Lewis (66 OVR 31 age). Offer $2. Length 2 years.
Counter Offer. OL S Murphy. Offer $4.
Ebay Offer. OL K Mawae. Offer $9.

Day Three. On Day Three I can make two new Initial Offers, place Ebay offers on players I'm leading (or tied), and counter offer players I'm loosing. Psycho starts off FA Day Three with a post like...

    HB.
B Westbrook - Texans win $7 (interested parties 49ers and Colts)

    OL
    S Murphy - 49ers $5 (interested parties Colts)
    K Mawae - 49ers $9 (interested parties Texans)

    DL
    R Brock - 49ers $6 (interested parties Colts)

    LB
    DD Lewis - 49ers $2.

    P
    S Paulescu - 49ers win $0

I've won my punter and can now add him to my team and cap sheet. I'm leading with my bid on MLB DD Lewis and feel confident no one else wants him to I hold fast. I see that I am leading again on OL Mawae but also notice that my bid went up due to the Texans also pursuing them. Good thing I placed an Ebay Bid on him! I have also taken the lead on DL R Brock and OL S Murphy. I lost HB B Westbrook though, but I didn't want to pay that much to sign him anyway.

In Day three I decide I don't want to offer more for Mawae so I hope my $9 bid holds. I also decide to ebay offer on DL R Brock to keep the Colts from winning him and stand pat with my offers on MLB DD Lewis and OL S Murphy. I don't want anyone else so I make no more Initial Offers.

I send Psycho a message like this...

    PM to Psycho
Subject: 2010 Free Agency Bids, Day - 3
    Message:
    49ers make the following bids.
Ebay Offer. DL R Brock. Offer $7.

Day Four. On Day Four I can make two new Initial Offers, place Ebay offers on players I'm leading (or tied), and counter offer players I'm loosing. Psycho starts off FA Day Four with a post like...

    HB.
B Westbrook - Texans win $7 (interested parties 49ers and Colts)

    OL
    S Murphy - 49ers win $5 (interested parties Colts)
    K Mawae - 49ers win $9 (interested parties Texans)

    DL
    R Brock - Colts $8 (interested parties 49ers)

    LB
    M Simoneau - Colts $2
DD Lewis - Texans $3 (interested parties 49ers)

    P
    S Paulescu - 49ers win $0

In week four I've found out I won OL Murphy and Mawae! I now have a starting C. I am now loosing on DL R Brock and MLB DD Lewis though. I decide to give up on DD Lewis but keep the pressure for R Brock on. I also decide to make a new Initial Offer on another MLB like M Simoneau. He is currently evaluating an offer from the Colts and I hope to use this final blind bet period to steal him away!

I send Psycho a message like this...

    PM to Psycho
Subject: 2010 Free Agency Bids, Day - 4
    Message:
    49ers make the following bids.
Initial Offer. LB M Simoneau (71 OVR 33 age). Offer $3. Length 2 years.
Counter Offer. DL R Brock. Offer $9.

FA over. When FA ends Psycho will make a final post listing all the players that were bid on and who won them. His post looks like this...

    HB.
B Westbrook - Texans win $7 (interested parties 49ers and Colts)

    OL
    S Murphy - 49ers win $5 (interested parties Colts)
    K Mawae - 49ers win $9 (interested parties Texans)

    DL
    R Brock - Colts win $9 (interested parties 49ers)

    LB
    M Simoneau - 49ers win $3 (interesting parties Colts)
DD Lewis - Texans win $3 (interested parties 49ers)

    P
    S Paulescu - 49ers win $0

In the end my sneak bid on MLB M Simoneau steals him from the Colts but the Colts use an Ebay bid to win DL R Brock from me. Overall I'm happy with my wins and sign the following players...

OL S Murphy. 74 OVR. 27 age. $5 salary. 3 year contract. $0 signing bonus.
OL K Mawae. 84 OVR. 39 age. $9 salary. 2 year contract. $0 signing bonus.
LB M Simoneau. 71 OVR. 37 age. $3 salary. 2 year contract. $0 signing bonus.
    P S Paulescu. 57 OVR. 26 age. $0 salary. 1 year contract. $0 signing bonus.

You will note that I am paying OL S Murphy, OL K Mawae, and LB M Simoneau above the contract value demanded for a player matching their Position and OVR. I am paying P S Paulescu the contract value demanded for a player matching his Position and OVR. I continue to pay that amount until their contract expires and I decide to either re-sign them (re-signed FA are signed based on their OVR and due a signing bonus when re-signed). I do not need to re-sign FAs at the contract value I signed them too out of FA, just the contract value that their OVR dictacts as part of the re-signing process (which I outlined in another post.)

    Any questions?

Just wondered when the results of day 1 would be posted. I imagine there's a lot to sift through and the deadline was only Sunday at 6 pm, but thought that if we're trying to get things done by Thursday that things would need to be posted. Anyway, not trying to rock the boat. Just wanted to see where things were and all. Thanks.
