    Oklahoma Sooners - 2011 Season

The Sooners narrowly escape their 1st game after the Sam Bradford era, beating the #24 Washington Huskies on a touchdown and 2-point conversion with :16 left in the game to win 32-31. Landry Jones struggled a bit in the 1st start of his career throwing 3 interceptions, managed to keep his composure leading the Sooners on the game winning drive and passing for the 2-point conversion. Jones was 22 for 32 on the day for 366 yards and 2 touchdowns. The interceptions definitely kept Washington in the game and will need to be addressed if the Sooners want to challenge for a Big XII South Title. J Miller carried the ball 17 times for 96 yards scoring 2 rushing touchdowns, including the game winner from 2 yards out. Ryan Broyles was named player of the game after hauling in 9 balls for 127 yards for 2 touchdowns. DeJuan Miller caught 5 passes for 112 yards.

Kevin Brent and RJ Washington led the Sooners' disappointing defensive performance with 10 and 7 tackles respectively. Washington also had a sack. The Huskies had their way with Oklahoma's defense most of the racking up 386 yards.

The Sooners will now face the Rebels of Ole Miss next week in Norman and have a lot of questions to answer before next week.

    Oklahoma 27-13 Ole Miss

The Sooners improve to 2-0 with a 27-13 victory over the Ole Miss Rebels. Oklahoma looked much better in their 2nd game of the season, Landry Jones threw for 218 yards and a touchdown, while Jermie Calhoun and Jonathan Miller combined for 136 yards and 2 touchdowns. Ryan Broyles earned player of the game honors with his 4 reception 109 yard performance including a 73-yard touchdown on a beautiful post pattern. Austin Box led the defense with 9 tackles, 2 for a loss. RJ Washington had 4 tackles, 1 for a loss, and an interception.

All in all, a solid performance by Oklahoma who are off next week before the start of a tough 3 weeks, a visit to Florida State, then the start of Big XII play in Boulder, and the Red River Rivalry. This will either be a great start of the Sooners, or the end of their preseason goals. Stay tuned.

Oklahoma Sets Up Undefeated Showdown with Texas

The Red River Rivalry will see undefeated Oklahoma face off against undefeated Texas after the Sooners improved to 1-0 in the Big XII with a 24-17 win over the Colorado Buffaloes. Once again, the Sooners struggled early as Colorado led twice in the 1st half at 7-0 and 14-7 before Okalhoma outscored them 17-3 to win 24-17. Colorado showed the Sooners that there won't be many easy games in the Big XII as they stepped up eventhough they are not as talented as the Sooners on paper. Colorado's defense was impressive against the run holding the Sooners to only 40 yards on the ground. Star tailback Darrel Scott was named Player of the Game for Colorado carrying the ball 16 times for 51 yards and 2 scores. Landry Jones carried the offense for the Sooners completing 21 of 24 passes for 278 yards and 2 touchdowns. Ryan Broyles had another solid performance with 6 catches for 83 yards and another touchdown. Jameel Owens added another 73 yards on 3 catches. Linebackers Austin Box and Travis Lewis combined for 22 tackles on the game. Safety Kevin Brent added 9 of his own 2 for a loss.

The Sooners improved to 4-0 overall and will face their feirce rival Texas Longhorns next week in Dallas in a game that will have major national championship implications.

Oklahoma Falls Short in Red River Again

For the 3rd year in a row, the Texas Longhorns defeat the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry to show they remain the top dog in the Big XII. The Longhorns scored 1st on a 29-yard field goal in the 1st quarter. The Sooners would answer back and tie the game at 3 3:00 before halftime on a Tress Way 22-yard field goal. On the Longhorns' ensuing possession, Fozzy Whitaker would catch a John Chiles pass and take it the distance for a 70-yard touchdown that would put the Longhorns up for good. Whitaker would catch another touchdown at the end of the 3rd quarter, this time from Garrett Gilbert from 21 yards out and the Sooners' late Jameel Owens touchdown wouldn't be enough as they would fall 17-10.

The Sooners fall to 4-1 (1-1) and will host rival Missouri Tigers next week on a big recruiting weekend in Norman.

    Oklahoma 48-17 Oklahoma State

Oklahoma scored early and often in jumping to a 24-1- halftime lead on their way to a 48-17 victory in Norman in Bedlam. In a rivalry that has become very one sided since Coach ControllerAbuser left for Baton Rouge, the Sooners controlled the game from start to finish. Landry Jones passed for 282 yards, Jonathan Miller rushed for 160 yards, while Ryan Broyles and Jameel Owens had 108 and 140 receiving yards respectively, catching a touchdown each. Safety Gabe Lynn had 14 tackles including 1 for a loss and Joseph Ibiloye intercepted a pass for Oklahoma.

With the win, the Sooners improved to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in Big XII play. The Sooners will anxiously await the result of the Texas-Nebraska game with slim hopes of getting back into the Big XII title and National Championship races.

Up next for the Sooners, a Top 10 showdown with Texas A&M when the Aggies pay them a visit in Norman next week.

    Oklahoma 41-25 Texas A&M

The Aggies lost the toss, Oklahoma deferred and forced Texas A&M to punt on their 1st possession. Then the Landry Jones threw an interception that was returned 33 yards for a touchdown on the Sooners 1st play from scrimmage to give the Aggies a 7-0 lead. On their ensuing possession, the Sooners would lean on Jonathan Miller and allow Jones to settle into the game. The strategy paid off as Oklahoma was able to move the ball down the field and Miller punched it in from the 1-yardline to tie the game at 7-7.

In the 2nd quarter, Tress Way and Miller would put 10 points on the board for the Sooners sandwiching a 51-yard field goal by R Bullock for the Aggies, taking the score to 17-10 at halftime.

Oklahoma would receive the 2nd half kickoff, but once again, Jones turned it over via an interception, which the Aggies would convert into a 5-yard touchdown by Heisman Trophy candidate Cyrus Gray and once again the game would be tied, this time at 17-17. From here on, however, Oklahoma's superior talent would take over as they outscored the Aggies 24-8, with touchdowns by fullback Marshall Musil, Miller would score his 3rd touchdown of the day, S Proctor would return an interception for a touchdown in the 4th quarter, and Way would add his 2nd field goal of the game. Texas A&M would score a touchdown at the end of the game when Gray found the endzone for the 2nd time, converting the 2-point try, making the final 41-25.

The Sooners still have slim hopes at a Big XII title thanks to Nebraska's big win over Texas last week, so there are 3 1-loss teams in the Big XII South. Texas, Oklahoma, and A&M will battle it out for the right to represent the Big XII South probably against Nebraska. The Sooners have the easiest remaining schedule, while the Aggies and Longhorns will face-off in Week 13. Stay tuned.

Up next for the Sooners, the 2-7 (1-4) Baylor Bears come to town next week.

Aggies beat Skip and his Longhorns. We need Texas to drop another one since they beat us in the Red River Rivalry.
