In a game that couldn't have started out much worse, Ole Miss got themselves and the game back under control with solid defense and dominated the majority of the game to win.

On the first play of the game Marquice Caldwell fumbled and Arizona State recovered, then turned it into a field goal on the other end. Moments later Lee Dahl threw an interception which was returned for a touchdown, and ASU had a 10-0 lead.

Caldwell atoned for his earlier mistake by capping off a drive by breaking 4 tackles on a 14-yard run to get the Rebels to within a score. The game was tied with a field goal early in the second quarter, 10-10. Arizona State used the last 5 minutes of the second half to kick a field goal and take a 13-10 halftime lead.

The only score in the third quarter was a 40-yard touchdown by Caldwell to give the Rebels a 17-13 lead. Caldwell then added another short touchdown run and Ole Miss kicked a 40-yard field goal with 1:35 remaining for the final points of the game.

We really leaned on our defense to do some good things against Arizona State, holding the Sundevils to just 4 first downs and 246 total yards. Comparatively, we gained 473 yards and 14 first downs. Turnovers were even, but both of our turnovers were in the first moments of the game and seemingly, Arizona State never gained enough momentum to overcome the talent difference they were up against.

You really gave us a chance spotting us 10 points and the Devils Defense was playing super aggressive. But with 4 first downs, the defense couldn't hold for ever.

    as always gg helli.
