In a shocking development today, Hugh Freeze has abandoned the program he vowed to retire at, taking the head coaching job with the New England Patriots. After the dismissal this week of Bill Belecheck after investigations heated up surrounding alleged ties to gang activity with player Aaron Hernandez, the New England Patriots wasted no time in choosing their new head coach Hugh Freeze. Freeze coming off a 7-6 season ( including a 38-17 victory over PITT in the BBVA compass bowl) at Ole Miss in which he brought in the 5th ranked recruiting class, has fans in Oxford devastated by his departure. He was an extremely popular hire before the 2012 season stating " this is the place I plan on retiring". While fans aren't really blaming him for stepping up to the NFL ranks its the timing soo close to the season that has Rebels fans shaking their heads. After an extensive overnight search Athletic Director Ross Bjork seems to have found his man. Former General Manager of "Publik Drunks" ( a championship crowned fantasy football team from the NFL Network) Keith Stone is the surprising hire. Though Stone has no prior coaching experience AD Bjork stands behind his decision stating " Keith Stone is as smooth as it gets, the man understands the game and will be able to continue to bring in quality young players to help establish us as a power in the SEC." The players coming from a team meeting in which they were introduced to their coach seem to agree with many referring to the new Rebel coach as "smooth". And "fresh". Only time will tell where this program goes from here, but one thing is for certain, Bjork really stuck his neck out on this one.
