If you have any questions about how the league will work, how the game works or what the hell is the difference between a 25 man and 40 man roster, post it here.

We will create an FAQ for a lot of these.

what difference it will make in game play with coaches and scouts being 'off' as we will have?

For starters, the offseason is faster without them. We don't have to worry about signing coaches and scouts every year. But the big reason is so that every team is on a level playing field. The team with the best coaches and scouts typically do better than others. The teams with money can afford the best of both.

Their are managers, hitting and pitching coaches throughout your whole system. So if a team hires A+ coaches at all levels, even their prospects will turn out better than other teams for the most part. As for scouts, with scouts enabled, the best scouts are the most accurate in terms of their player analysis. Once again, better scouts cost more.

Team A could have a great scout, and that scout can tell that a player is rated for instance 9 contact hitting ability.

Team B has a mediocre scout, that scout tells you the same player is rated a 7 in contact hitting ability.

With scouts off, we all see their ratings and dont have to worry if our scouting reports are accurate.

I had considered using a more complex rating scale for players instead of 1-10, using 2-8 or 20-80 like real MLB scouts do. But I dont want to make it too hard for guys.

    Hope this helps :)

    How about injury settings?
Asking because they tend to get out a hand in a ridiculous fashion

Good question. From my understanding the default was tweaked to make injuries less frequent. This is certainly something to keep an eye on. As for now, the plan is to use default setting.

Yeah I'm doing a season with the Astros. Lost Carlos Lee for the first 2.5 months and a week after he comes back Pence is done for the season. I'm about 15 games under .500 and probably will get fired

Anyway with the speed you'll be advancing I thunk you need to extend the signing rookies period. I just spend about 3 weeks and 6 offers signing my 3rd round pick. The maddening thing was I was 'meeting his demands' from the 3 Rd offer on, but he kept rejecting it.

I've been looking at the draft and have a question about the position players. Their fielding ratings are on their but they don't have potential ratings in fielding. Do those always stay the same or can they improve?

There aren't potentials for fielding ratings. However, they do improve. Somewhat. I've never seen huge increases though. So maybe no more than 3 points.

    Couple of questions:

    - Question on initial player contracts. Are we randomizing contracts and lengths or are we taking what contracts there are in real ML baseball?
    - Are we allowing player renames?

    Thanks!

Well to answer your first question see below. The contracts apparently have had a lot of time spent on them. For the second question? Only fictional players :)

OOTP 13 - The Road To Release, Part 6:
Major League Rosters: Everything You Want
in a Roster Set (Plus So Much More)

Rosters and their features in Out of the Park Baseball haven't changed terribly much over the years. Rating systems may change, some sets have extra prospect ratings, but for the most part, roster sets have remained fairly static.
This year, that all changes. We're happy to announce a set of features in OOTP13 that we think will delight the community, especially those of you who love to play with authentic players and teams.

    More ratings than ever before

Players have gotten a hands-on approach this year, more so than in any set in the past. We've made sure any player with major league experience has had every rating touched, whether it is his fielding, pitch types (and strengths), hitting ability, pitching ability or injury rating. Contracts are detailed down the smallest point, such as players earning $25,000 for winning Gold Gloves.
Additionally, past the typical guys such as Adrian Gonzalez, and the not-so-typical guys such as Mike Aviles, our roster team has been hard at work on the fringe minor leaguers. That 34 year-old Triple-A slugger looking for his shot at a cup of coffee in the Majors? Yeah, we've got him covered too.
We think you'll find yourself immersed with this roster set, and presented with many of the challenges that real life General Managers are facing every day.

    Minor league statistics

An issue with roster sets in the past has been the sterile nature of the statistics. As you progressed in your league and your players accumulated minor league statistics, there were none previous to your current year's numbers to compare them to. It was as if every minor leaguer was playing their first year in professional baseball.
One of the biggest things we're proud to announce this year is the addition of full minor league statistics. Wondering what Jarrod Parker did last year in Double-A for Mobile? No need to run to Baseball Reference any longer; those statistics are all included in player profiles.
We believe this should add an enormous benefit for MLB leagues and give a boost to realism with a feature that hasn't existed in a roster set before.

    History of the game

Although this has gotten a brief addition in previous roster sets, OOTP13 will come with full histories for players in both the major and minor leagues.
You'll find the level of detail remarkable. Not only are contracts, player trades and awards included in each player's individual history, but player's draft slots are included, awards earned in college and high school, and other news are included.
As with minor league statistics, we wanted anyone firing up a 2012 league to feel as if they were adding onto an already existing league's history (since that's what you are doing after all!), not just starting from scratch.

    The usual odds and ends

Of course the little things are all still there, too. Top prospect lists, refined player ratings, option years, coaching staffs, stadiums, accurate service time and up to date major league and minor league roster moves, up to the games release, will all be included with OOTP13. And they're all available with a click of the "New Major League Game" button.
We've spent a lot of time this year on the rosters and our dedicated team has put in the work to make sure that the out of the box rosters in OOTP13 give you a level of realism never experienced with any baseball game before. We think you'll enjoy the result!

What's typically the best way to set your lineups for the 10 day sims? I'm seeing options to set a 7 day lineup, or set a depth chart where the backups play every certain amount of games (5, 7, 10, etc)

I always use depth charts personally. But you can customize your 7 day lineups, and then if the sim goes past i believe there is an option to use depth charts or repeat the lineup. if you do use 7 day lineups, i think there is an option for using depth chart if projected starter changes.

Are trades with the CPU allowed? And if so, is there a review process or do you just go ahead and make the deal?

Great question. I need to update the league description with this.

All trades need, including CPU will need reviewed by the trade committee.

Once a sim session is complete and we download the new file to see the results, is it possible to run "test sims" on our computers? Kind of like doing some "What if" type scenarios? I am new to the OOTP software. I remember it being doing in the High League I used to be in.

    Thanks!

Unfortunately not.. That would put guys at an advantage. You need commisioner password to sim the file. Even if you did though... I could sim the same 10 days multiple times and the results are never the same. Right down to development and injuries.

10-5 rights and no trade clauses... how do they work in this game? Like, I know Brian Roberts indicated (pre-concussion anyhow) that he'd be receptive to a move to the Cubs or any other team that was winning, but in game it seems like he won't ever waive it. Is that atypical or are NTC's just never waived in this game?

I dont ever remember seeing 10-5 rights in any other version of the game. So Im not sure how they work. Im guessing when the trade is attempted to be processed I will get some sort of error. Great question. Ill test it. Do you know a player off the top of your head who I can try?

As for NTC? I have never seen it being waived.

Well, I didn't know if 10-5 rights were in this game. I just kinda lumped it in with the general NTC stuff. Off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure Carpenter and ARod have 10-5 rights in real life though.

Actually... Its an option when setting up this year. So its in there now, and will be enabled for our league. So there are both are there. No trade clauses have been around awhile, so when you sign someone you can put that in their contract.

Do you know if potential is dynamic? Like you said with the test file, there is a ton of 5 star potential players. In my offliner, I drafted 5 star potential guys in the first 5 rounds. Is that typical, or is there usually less?
