Oregon State Beavers - Game Summaries
Oregon State University Beavers
Beavers Love the Swamp
Oregon State forces 4 tournovers, 2 in the red zone, to beat the Florida Gators 23-9.
An outstanding defensive performance led the Beavers to a week 1 win at Florida. Like most week 1 games, the defenses were miles ahead of the offenses. 6 total turnovers created by interceptions, big hits, and just dropping the ball in mid dive, gave this game a hectic feeling.
Huskers Not Welcome in Rodgers Neighborhood
Rodgers brothers score three touchdowns in rout over #5 Nebraska
The OSU defense put on a show this week allowing 119 total yards to #5 Nebraska. After making the Cornhuskers punt on the first possession of the game, James Rodgers made sure that the defensive efforts were not wasted.
Twisting and turning past the Nebraska gunners until he turned on the afterburners, James took back a 93 yards punt return for a TD in the first quarter.
With the defense playing well, the OSU offense played ball control with the running abilities of Jaquizz Rodgers. Jaquizz would score the second TD of the game on short pass that seemed like it would go for minimal yardage. But after catching the ball, Jaquizz used his lighting speed to race away from the linebackers and beat the safeties to the endzone. From there the Beavers cruised to a 28-7 victory.
No Quizz? No Problem.
Young Jovan Stevenson steps in for the injured Rodgers. Shows a bright futures is ahead.
Oregon State University had the toughest non-conference schedule in the nation. Playing #6 Florida, #5 Nebraska, and #2 Boise State all before Conference play kicks off next week. The Beavers are now 3-0 and have to be considered a front runner for National Champions.
All week the OSU coaches have been telling everyone within earshot that Jovan Stevenson is the real deal. After 22 caries and 186 rushing yards against the #2 team in the country, nobody is going to be surprised by this kid anymore.
With Stevenson chewing up yardage and the clock, the OSU defense came through with another spectacular performance to boost it's resume as the best in the country. Now the Beavers start the long haul of the PAC-10 schedule. I would bet a ticket at Reser Stadium just got a lot harder to find.
Legit wins for sure
Beavers Defense Continues Domination
Jovan Stevenson carries the Beavers offense as the defense shuts down the Devils.
The Oregon State Defense continues to shine as the Beavers sack Arizona State QB, Threet, 5 times in a 28-0 win. Arizona State could only muster 102 yards of offense all day as the front seven for the Beavers dominated the line play.
On offense, OSU has found their next running back star. Jovan Stevenson has replaced Jaquizz Rodgers in a way that nobody thought was possible. Using Jovan to chew the clock, the Beavers had no issues putting ASU away in the first half, building a 21-0 halftime lead.
OSU goes up 14-0 before the offense steps on the field
The Oregon State Defense scores 14 first quarter points and puts the game away before the OSU offense touches the field. But OSU fans were still anxious to see the return of Jaquizz Rodgers to the field, and Jaquizz delivered.
Showing the same speed and acceleration that made him a pre-season Heisman candidate, Jaquizz Rodgers ran for 3 TDs. This game was out of reach in the 3rd quarter and the 2nd string got a chance to play the 4th.
Washington Fails Pop Quizz
Jaquizz Rodgers goes 70 yards for a TD on first touch of the game, Beavers blowout Huskies
After 4 first half TD runs, Jaquizz Rodgers and the rest of the OSU offense turned into spectators for the second half, and their defense put on the show. The OSU defense is now averaging 6 points against per game. That includes games against the #6, #5, and #2 teams in the nation. As much as Jaquizz will receive the national spotlight on his team, its National Championship dreams are given life by an impeccable defense.
Beavers Attack Bears
OSU Defense forces 4 turnovers in rout of Golden Bears
#2 Beavers Continue March to BCS
Bruins not able to complete with the Beavs
Beavers Take Down Trojans
Jaquizz goes for 101 yards and 3 TDs as OSU beats up on USC.
#2 Beavers Chop Down #3 Stanford
Fast start for the Beavers, along with 3 Stanford turnovers, turns this one into a blowout
Beavers win Civil War, Heading to BCS Championship Game!
Bottom Dwellers No More, Beavers are King of the PAC.
Oregon State University football has been through an awful lot. And I want to emphasize the "Awful". From the start of the 1971 college football season, until the end of the 1999 season, Oregon State had 0 winning seasons. During those 28 years OSU racked up eight 1 win seasons and, in the worst season of college football ever, the Beavers went 0-11 in 1980. However, that era is a distant memory today.
With their twelfth win of 2010, the Oregon State Beavers have won the 2010 Pac-10 Championship and a spot in the BCS Championship game. Under the guidance of a new coach, OregonGunner, the Oregon State Beavers are one step away from a National Championship that would have seemed like a miracle just 15 years ago.
Some thought that the 2010 Civil War game was just a tune-up for OSU before their showdown with Ohio State in the BCS Championship game. But nobody told that to the Ducks. Oregon came out strong on defense to start the game and frustrated Heisman hopeful Jaquizz Rodgers all game long. Jaquizz ended up with a season low 45 yards rushing and 56 total yards on 17 touches.
Oregon gave Oregon State its first halftime deficit when the teams went to the locker room with UO winning 6-3. But it could have been much worse for the Beavers. The OSU defense showed why it is the best in the nation, stopping Oregon twice at the one yard line on third-and-goal opportunities. These first half heroics kept the beavers in the game and allowed Ryan Katz to show his true character in the second half.
Player of the Game, Ryan Katz, was called upon to shoulder the OSU offense with Jaquizz being shut down by an aggressive Oregon defense. And in the third quarter Ryan hooked up with James Rodgers in between the cover two corner and safety, to score the games first touch down and give the Beavers a 10-6 Lead. (See it on the dynasty wire: http://www.easports.com/dynasty ).
The Beaver defense would continue to shine as it frustrated, Oregon QB, Nate Costa during the third quarter, allowing the Beavers to open up a 13-6 lead early in the fourth quarter. The Ducks responded, driving the length of the field to score a touchdown with 2:25 left in the 4th.
As champions usually do, the Oregon State Beavers came through with the game on the line. Ryan Katz carried the OSU offense down the field, with an occasional run from Rodgers or Stevenson, to set up a game winning field goal by Justin Kahut with no time left no the clock.
Next up, the BCS Championship and Ohio State.
Oregon State Wins the BCS National Championship
Jaquizz Rodgers scores 4 TDs, leads OSU to greatest victory in school history.
In what was unquestionably the most important game in Oregon State Football season, OSU's best player left little nothing to chance. Jaquizz Rodgers, in maybe his last game in Black & Orange, put on a show that will be remembered for decades to come by all the Oregon State fans across the country.
Oregon State dominated this game from start to finish. Picking off Pryor on the third play of the game and never trailing. Ryan Katz showed the savvy and composure of a QB ready to take over the captain's duties for next season. It was an all-around spectacular effort from the Beavers.
Oregon State Beavers 2010 Review
PAC-10 Champs, National Champs, and a Perfect Record. I am not sure how the Oregon State season could have gone any better.
At the start of 2010 there was one glaring hole in the Oregon State resume, Quarterback. There will be no such worries to start 2011. While Ryan Katz did not put up a lot of yards or TDs, he did the most important thing of all, limited turnovers. 19 TDs to 6 interceptions is an incredible season for a sophomore with no previous starting experience. When the games got tight, and OSU needed to convert a 3rd and 9, Ryan Katz delivered. But that is not to say that he didn't have a little help from his teammate at tailback.
Jaquizz Rodgers was everything that Oregon State fans dreamed and maybe even a little more. He sat our three weeks due to an elbow injury and still racked up All-American, Doak Walker (Best RB), and Walter Camp (Player of the Year) awards. His 4 TD performance in the National Championship game solidified him as one of the best Oregon State football players ever.
To recap the season with a couple pictures.....
Jaquizz always knew how to find the endzone
All year the defense was harassing quarterbacks
The D-line had no preference towards Ducks or Devils...
And when the QBs got a little nervous after getting sacked, the corners took care of floating passes
And there was one man who had college football chasing him all year long
