Week 4 - Stunned Beavers over come coaching change to defeat Stanford.

After leading the Beavers to a 2-1 record, the Oregon State nation was stunned when Coach Riley stepped down as the team prepared to face Stanford . Moving quickly the Oregon State administration reached a deal with uagrad90 to become the new head coach of the Beavers. Coach uagrad90 comes from Tuscaloosa where he was the wide receivers coach for Nick Saban. Moving quickly he hired the running back coach form Oklahoma State to be his Offense coordinator and linebacker coach from Alabama to lead the defense.

The Beavers opened slowly against Stanford as everyone was still trying to learn the new schemes. The Beavers opened the score late in the 1st period when they caught the Cardinals in a blitz and hit them with a 34 yard screen pass to Rogers. After a 2nd quarter FG, Rogers increased the lead in the 3rd quarter with a 3 yard plunge off tackle. Following a fumble on the ensuing kickoff the Beavers wasted little time as Katz hit Prince with nice 9 yard fade pass to increase their lead. Any hopes of a Cardinal comeback died when Rogers returned a kickoff at the end of the 3rd quarter 97 yards to put the game away. Rogers ended the game with 60 yards rushing while Katz was 15 of 18 for 226 yards and 2 tds.

Following the game coach uagrad90 said he was pleased with the win but his team need a alot of improving before they can compete for the Pac-12 Title and a BCS berth. One major area of concern was the missed extra points. Needless to say we will spend a little extra time working on that.

Next up for the Beavers is a home game with new Pac-12 member Colorado.

Week 5 - Beavers Methodical in win over Pac-12 New Comer Colorado

The Beavers improved to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play with a very workman like 34-7 victory over Colorado. After a slow first quarter that was capped off with a 4 yard TD run by Rogers, the Beavers increased their lead as Katz started to heat up and hit Halahuni for a 17 yard TD pass to increase the lead to 13 at the half. In the 2nd half Katz continued to find his rhythm as he connected on 2 more touchdown passes. Katz ended the day 26 of 31 for 300 yards and 2 touchdown pass.

The highlight of the game was when backup CB Mike Sanders intercepted a pass and returned it 58 yards for a touchdown and sent the Beavers fans home excited about the future.

Next week the Beavers hit the road to face a dangerous but struggling Cal Bears team.

Week 6 - To Close for Comfort!!!!

The Beavers traveled to Berkley to face a struggling 1-3 Cal team looking for an opportunity to work on several new things. But what the Beavers got instead was a game that was a little too close for comfort. After spotting the Bears an early 7-0 lead, the Beavers quickly moved down the field on the arm of Katz and tied the game at 7 all. The Bears reclaimed the lead early in the 2nd quarter with a 29 yard FG before the Beavers appeared to take control of the game.

Realizing that the Bears had game planned not to allow Rogers to beat them, the Beavers took to the air waves and reclaimed the lead in the 2nd quarter and increased it to 24-10 halftime lead. Katz connected for 2 TD passes one of which went to Jordan Bishop for his 2nd of 3 TD receptions. Early in the 3rd quarter the Beavers received a scare when Rodgers went out of the game with a bruised shoulder, but he appears to be ok and should be available next week. Early in the 4th quarter Katz once again found Jordan Bishop for a short TD pass and it appeared that the Beavers would cruise to an easy victory. After pulling the starters the Bears mounted a comeback with 2 late TDs to pull within 7 at 31-24. But an unsuccessful onside kick sealed the win for the Beavers.

    BYE Week Chaos

In what appeared to be a slow week for the Beavers as they prepared for next weeks trip to South Bend, started strong and then quickly fell apart. At the start of the week the Beavers learned that 3 Star Guard Jon Massey committed to the Beavers. But in the next 48 hours what that ensued was a wild roller coaster ride that ended with Coach uagrad90 leaving the Beavers and accepting the head coaching position at the University of Arkansas.

In a brief meeting with the media in Corvallis coach uagrad90 read a brief statement before heading to the airport. In his statement coach uagrad90 thanked the Oregon State administration and athletic department for giving him the opportunity to coach the Beavers. Coach uagrad90 enjoyed his time, albeit brief, in leading the Beavers and was not actively perusing another position. But as coach uagrad90 said “when the opportunity came open to go to the University of Arkansas and coach in the SEC, one of the best if not the best conferences in the country, it was just too great of an opportunity to pass up.” And with that coach uagrad90 left and headed to the airport for the trip to Fayetteville.

I don't know about that. I tend to tighten up when I play against a person and do stupid stuff.
