    2016 Recruiting Needs
The Irish look to be losing 13 Seniors this season, which give us about 16 spots to fill. The number 1 need will be at least 2 stud TE's. Last year we struck out on all of our top TE recruits, and rather than settle we sat out on the position. It leaves us with 2 mediocre TE's, and that is unacceptable as our offense requires TE's. We'll be throwing everything we have into securing a few of them.
Another position of need this season is once again going to be linebacker. We loaded up on them last year, but will plan to take at least 2 more impact players this year. We'll be choosy with them, but really need some difference makers in order to maintain a powerful Defense.
Another major need will be on the OL. We have young guys starting across the line, but it's important to get some guys in the pipeline so they've progressed enough when it's their time to take over there won't be much of a drop off. We'll shoot for 3 big boys up front to keep growing the T, G and C spots.
That is really the extent of must have spots, we have done well to create a lot of depth everywhere else, so will be shooting for the best available players beyond these 3. Ideally we'll get 1 QB, HB, FB, CB, S, and anything on top of that will have to be a very good player.

Guys ....please take the time and do this as it will only make the league stronger. It takes less than 5 minutes to do as well.

West Virginia s primary goal is to recruit a QB that can run the spread offense with quick feet. More to come

Also, please post how many seniors and empty roster spots you have. That will determine how many recruits you can sign in this class, plus 3 on top of that. So, I have 12 Seniors, and 1 empty roster spot, +3, gives me 16 possible spots to fill. Keeping that in check helps to keep the cpu somewhat competitive.

And, after an initial look at the recruiting class, it looks like there will be plenty of talent to go around, pretty deep in solid prospects from what I can tell.

Scholarships are at a premium this year with only 14 being available. It will be interesting to see who the last few scholarships in the class will be awarded to. There are not very many needs, but future depth will become a problem if not addressed. The Cowboy staff will have to be very selective when filling this class.
    Offense:
The only true need on offense is at tight end. Zach Robinson will graduate after the 2016 season leaving only Jerrell Vincent to step in. The tight end position is not used too often in Coach Gundy's system. However, when you have talent at a position, you must use it against your opponents. The tight ends caught more passes for more yardage last season than in any other season in Coach Gundy's tenure. Veatch and Robinson were great weapons in that almost hybrid tight end role. Veatch was often out in the slot with the inexperience at wide receiver position last year. By adding playmakers at the tight end position defenses will have to prepare for and guard much more. Coach Gundy will be looking to add more threats to his offense with the departure of Robinson, Butler, and Russell. The Cowboys will be looking to sign two tight ends in the 2017 class.

    Depth:
Offensive line depth will be addressed. At least two tackles and two guards will be signed.

    Defense:

Outside linebacker is the only glaring need on the defensive side. One outside linebacker will be signed, but a middle linebacker may also be signed. Coach Gundy likes to find players that are flexible and if he can find a player that can play both outside and inside linebacker a spot should be available.

    Depth:
Three defensive tackles will be seniors next year. That means it's time to start looking for replacements now. Ideally two defensive tackles will be signed, but that really depends on the talent in this class. There will definitely be one defensive tackle added to the roster.

Haha, something like that. I couldn't get the text to cooperate on the first try so I posted it and went to edit it to fix it. Dramatic effect is in the team preview. ;)

I have 17 seniors, 1 open roster spot + 3 = 21 scholarships. Time to hit the recruiting trail.

    Week 1

Good news comes early for Cowboys fans in week one. The Pokes start off the season on a bye week, but Coach Gundy and his staff were still hard at work on the recruiting trail.

:4stars: Offensive tackle Ben Brooks committed to the Cowboys during the first call of his recruitment. Brooks is 6'4, 295 and is rated the #21 offensive tackle in the 2017 recruiting class. He is a great pass blocker, but could use some time to work on his run blocking. Brooks will redshirt and continue to provide depth on the offensive line.

:3stars:Offensive guard Scott Jenkins also committed to Coach Gundy on the spot. Jenkins (6'2, 301) has the potential to be a great lineman, but has just recently started playing the game. He is very raw and will take some time to fully develop and be ready for collegiate competition. Jenkins and Brooks provided needed depth for the future of the offensive line.

    Week 6

After several weeks of no major recruiting news, the Cowboys finally pick up another commitment. Center Marcus Benson is the latest to become a Cowboy. Benson is slightly undersized, but he makes up for it with his quickness. He is a solid blocker in both the run and pass game and should a solid center after a few years to mature in the system.

    Week 7

The Cowboys earn a huge commitment in week seven of the 2016 season. Middle linebacker James Vaughn has committed to the Pokes. Vaughn has drawn comparisons to Ray Lewis because of his size (5'10, 223). However, he is a big hitter and easily runs sideline to sideline. Vaughn is great at shedding blocks diagnosing plays. James' versatility will have him pushing for playing time very early at any one of the three linebacking positions.

It was even more surprising because both were on dynasty wire. I think they double the amount of commits I've ever gotten on there, and the screen actually looked like it was supposed to! Huge instant commit screen. I'll add screen caps later, both should be gems.

Here are WVU top ten recruits,(sorry for format). The #1 recruit is ATH Eric Glover, the Mountaineers hope to make him the QB of the future until they can start recruiting 5 star caliber platers once they turn the program around. That looks like its going to be tough, because knowone signed after the first week. WVU has many holes to fill, needing WR, FB, DT, DE and K positions for next year. If they cant get any D-lineman they may have to convert a few of there talented linebackers to fit the position.

The Irish get commit #1 from big time 5 star athlete Reggie Smith out of our Pennsylvania pipeline. Smith is incredibly versatile, he could be a dual threat QB or ball hawking CB/safety. We'll see how the rest of class shakes out and pick his best position then, but looking at him now, it will be hard not to put his great coverage skills to use as a DB. That leaves us with 15 spots to fill.

The Irish continue the theme of the recruiting class so far with commit number 2 by bringing in another 5 star Athlete named Smith. Unfortunately, this one is more of a bust than a gem like his cousin Reggie. Bennie isn't fully scouted yet, but so far he is slower than advertised and 5 points below expectations. Hopefully when we get him in camp we'll learn more about why he's so hyped coming in. Looking at him, he's probably best suited to QB at this point, and at least brings great size at 6-3 228. We have a lot of depth there, so it might be a good spot for him to come in and grow, and eventually be a stud there. If not, at his size we can always use him at FB (y).

ND is pleased to announce commitment #3 in 4* TE Robert Foster out of Texas. He breaks our string of Smiths, but we'll take him anyway. We were in a big battle with the Longhorns on this one, as the Texas kid had grown up following them, and had them in front for much of the recruitment. In the end, ND was able to show the long line of success we've had with big time TE's and he couldn't pass up the chance to come in and get some immediate playing time. At 6'5 257 this dude has the size we need in TE, and brings good speed at 85 Spd/Acc. He's also got great receiving and rushing attributes, so he'll be a major threat in the passing game.

Leaves us with 13 spots to fill, and 6 soft commits waiting to make it official any time now.
